Summary: Worst dvd i own
Review: I have never felt the need to write a review until now. This has to be the worst dvd I have ever owned. The audio on the dvd is so subpar I would not recommend it to anyone. Maybe they were trying to cover up Geddy's failing voice with all the bass. If you would like two hours of listening to Neil's base drum reverberating in your ears, this is the dvd for you. This is not my farewell to kings, but a farewell to three has-beens looking for a quick buck.

Summary: SOUND MIX ISN'T A FACTOR? WHAT?
Review: Just to comment on what reviewer James Joyce said. "NOT PERFECT SOUND, BUT HEY IT'S LIVE." "THE SOUND MIX ISN'T A MAJOR FACTOR IN IT'S ENJOYMENT." Say what... ? HELLO!!! The sound mix is EVERYTHING!! What are we reviewing here? Silent movies? A Led Zeppelin Bootleg recorded by someone in the back row's single mic cassette recorder? This is a LIVE RUSH DVD recorded in 2003, people. It should be judged by the highest standards. Look, I love RUSH just as much as the next guy, but a band of their high caliber should be putting out music that does justice to their LIVE potential. THIS IS NOT IT!!

It amazes me that audiophiles who are HONEST FANS are vilified by RUSH FANS that are blinded by their love for this great band. Man, I feel your pain. There are actually reviews here on how to tweek the sound. What? I shouldn't have to tweek the sound!! They pay producers a lot of money to mix the sound in a studio. These are probably the same people who put studio monitors in their houses. Me, I'll stick to my warm Infinity speakers. Unbelievable. LET'S BE HONEST PEOPLE. IF IT LOOKS LIKE A DUCK AND QUACKS LIKE A DUCK, IT PROBABLY IS A DUCK.

THE SOUND MIX IS THE ONLY WAY TO JUDGE A LIVE RECORDING.

OPEN MINDED FANS SHOULD ACT ACCORDINGLY. THE REST OF YOU MUST HAVE BOUGHT YOUR AUDIO EQUIPMENT AT RADIOSHACK. Why bother with a review of the sound... ? Buy it anyway. Who cares what it sounds like?

To get your revenge, just click on the NO button.

Summary: The BEST RUSH tour in years but DVD does not capture it
Review: I am long time Rush fan (since 1979). I own almost every album and video. I have seen Rush live many times, and I have to say the Vapor Trails tour was the best Rush tour I have ever seen, but this DVD does not capture that. From the 2nd disk we learn the road crew got to Rio late and that the set up time was "rushed". There was no sound check or video check and this shows in this DVD.
The audio in not in sync with the video. Also the editing is terrible (Alex soloing and video not on him). Rush should of not filmed in a huge outdoor stadium, an indoor arena would have been better. Were they tring to copy Iron Maiden in Rio? This DVD could of been a lot better. Save your money for the "Exit Stage Left" DVD whenever it comes out.

Summary: I'M BRAZILIAN FROM RIO DE JANEIRO CITY, and I was there
Review: I'm not the sort of guy who enters the net to read reviews in such a site (I never understood why they used our state's name...Amazonas). Well, but I started reading the crowd's notes, and this became a true open forum and now I'm here writing this in a hot night in Barra da Tijuca, Rio.
I haven't seen the DVD yet, but I was there. So I can say a few words about that unusual night in the world's biggest coliseum, the Maracanã Stadium. Or maybe not. I can not think in any word that can goodly define what happened there. When I think about that night a strange feeling starts in my stomach, something like love, joy and also a sensation like "now I can die...my life is complete". That's the best way I can explain that. We brazilians are raised in a very wild reality, where the richest and the poorest live in the same town, and sometimes there are ugly conflicts. To defend ourselves from the country's reality and also from this terrible Bush-world we are living in, we Brazilians choose happiness instead of hidind our heads in holes on the ground. In Rio the Janeiro the people look into your eyes, smile and wish you to have a nice day. The Cariocas (Rio's natives) are considered the most polite and kind people of the world according to a recent research. We live each day at time, licking the wine to the last drop. The Brazilians love Rush because we are a Rock'n Roll kind of people, and we have trainned ears for music. Not many people know, but we are the biggest market for Rock and Metal in the world, (and almost unexploited). The lesson of all that cheap conversation is simple: Without a doubt Rush is the best band ever...and I saw it, nobody told me (two minutes after the show ended, a hard rain begin to fall, and it felt like the priests of the temples of sirynx went happy and gave us that fresh smell of rain in the air as a gift...just amazing...what else can I say) .

(The dream of all Brazilians: Pink Floyd in Rio...Soon we hope, now we know that everything is possible.

Summary: Not perfect sound, but hey it's live.
Review: There seem to be two basic schools of thought about this DVD--1) it's ruined by the sound mix or 2) the sound mix isn't a major factor in it's enjoyment. I'm of the latter school--my only disappointment was that the 16:9 picture is not anamorphic, since I love to watch DVDs on my widescreen portable. As for the sound, I don't know about the 5.1 mix since I listened to it with headphones. I thought the stereo mix was fine--yeah, it sounds compressed, but I have only ever seen one DVD that's listed as having an uncompressed PCM soundtrack for optimal sound quality (The Eagles Hell Freezes Over). Besides, 5.1 is great if you're watching The Matrix but I prefer good old-fashioned stereo sound for music. As for the crowd noise, it's a bit loud but these people had NEVER seen Rush live before, and I like to see that kind of enthusiasm from music fans--they put American concert audiences to shame. For me it added to the overall excitement of the experience, and made it fresh and new in a way, even though Rush has been around forever and I've seen them in concert 9 times. What was also great was the song list, which spanned their entire career, and the length of the performance, which was far longer than most bands give you these days. As well I found the documentary disc entertaining and inspiring, and it was moving to listen to some of the fans talk about how long they had waited to see Rush and their joy at finally getting to do so.

Summary: MONSTERS OF ROCK IN BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN SOUND.
Review: BEWARE: This concert film has the worst sounding audio of any concert film I own. The 5.1 is awful and playing it with a 2.0 stereo mix is only marginally better. There are also cracks in the audio. It sounds as if someone in the audience pointed a mic at the stage and this was the result.

I wish I could review the performance, but the sound is so terrible, it's impossible to comment.

In a time of high-end DVD and AUDIO; for RUSH to put their stamp of approval on this is just unconscionable. I own almost all of their recordings, but I'm afraid to purchase the 3 CD set of this same concert. BEWARE: It may very well be the same recording.

RUSH IS ONE OF THE MONSTERS OF STADIUM ROCK!! THEY WERE MEANT TO BE HEARD LIVE!! WHAT THE... ? THEY DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS. I could have produced a better recording with my answering machine.

I wasted 25 bucks on this and it's almost unwatchable. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE UNLESS YOU LIKE LISTENING TO RUSH THROUGH AN ALUMINUM PEPSI CAN.

Summary: Great show
Review: Yes, the crowd is loud. And yes, at time the noise level of the crowd makes it hard to hear Mr. Lee's fantastic vocals.

But, the plain and simple truth is that nothing as trivial as a minor (yes, its minor) audio problem could take away from this brilliant performance. Geddy's bass lines are incredible (ditto for his voice- compare 'One Little Victory' from this performance to the album cut- its near identical!)"... Alex takes charge with some of the most impressive solo's that I've heard in a long time... and Neal.... well, I don't think I can say anything about Mr. Peart that hasnt already been said. He simply shows why he is the best rock drummer in history.

Bottom line- if you've ever enjoyed one Rush tune- pick this dvd set up.

The only weak part in the show is 2112. If you're looking for a great live representation of that epic- check out "All the World's a Stage".

This is truly one dvd that begs to be cranked at near full volume. Your ears will bleed from the blistering tunes and insanely rowdy crowd, but you'll absolutely love every second of it.

Summary: A Good DVD
Review: This DVD contains an outstanding collection of Rush tunes. The three of them play a very fun, energetic and entertaining show. The camera work is good, although a bit heavy on the crowd shots. The audio is probably the biggest drawback (and Neil Peart makes not secret of this in the liner notes). I even saw the premier of this in the theaters and I thought someone had forgotten to plug the sound in all the way. Very distant and washy in quality, the CD version as well. Not what you normally get from this band. But that shouldn't stop you from buying this. It's none the less a film that will make Rush fans very happy. If you're not a fan yet, this just may rope you in.
