Summary: Worthwhile DVD
Review: I have to admit that I too am amazed that people criticise this DVD. You're either a fan of the group or you're not. If you are, you should love it. The quality might not be perfect, but I found the video and sound are certainly good enough to enjoy the concert. As for this supposedly showing BOC "past their prime" ... ridiculous. They were at their peak in 1976, which is what makes this disc all the more valuable to have.

Summary: Rockin' DVD!!!
Review: I just purchased this dvd even though I read some bad reviews from others. As far as I'm concerned this DVD shows just the way the concerts were back in the day with the laser shows. Anyone who is a long time BOC fan or even new BOC fans would really enjoy this dvd. It is really a historical recording as you can no longer see the laser shows and it captures blue oyster cult just as the agents of fortune album came out with don't fear the reaper. The video and audio quality are fine. I almost didn't order it because of other reviews but am very glad that I did!!! Buy it and you won't be sorry if you're a real BOC fan!!!

Summary: Great band, mediocre video.
Review: I love Blue Oyster Cult as a band. A mighty lead singer in Eric Bloom, a melodic and expressive guitarist in Buck Dharma, and an excellent backbeat in the Bouchard brothers, with songwriting ability to match. I've also read many rave accounts about this band's live shows and that was my incentive for buying this. But this DVD does the band a disservice.

First of all, it's very poorly shot. In fact, my feeling is that any fan with a video camera could've done better. They tried to save it at the end of the finale "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by incorporating some funky visual effects, but it's too little, too late. Most of this concert film was spent either so far away (balcony seat, anybody?) that the players are specks on the screen, or so close that the performer becomes some sort of abstract shape, inexpressive and uninteresting, unconnected to the music. What this DVD *does* allow me to do is figure out who sings what on BOC's songs (their album jackets don't say, and I've made mistakes before concerning who does the lead vocal on a certain track). With drummer Albert Bouchard, Dharma and Bloom sharing the mike, at least the songs are always interesting. The botched sound recording, unfortunately, also puts a huge dent in enjoying the music.

This *is* the only official video recording I've found of Blue Oyster Cult, so it's still worth a look for the true fan. But keep your expectations low!

Summary: Pointless on DVD
Review: I must preface this by saying that I have been an avid fan of B.O'Cult since 1979. I've seen them perform live three times. I love their music and the mystique. If I had purchased this on VHS I would have thought the numerous audio problems were a manufacturing flaw. There is no reason for this to be released on DVD. Or VHS. Seeing the original lineup is a thrill, but the limitations of the recording (both audio AND video) is pathetic. You should purchase this ONLY to have the complete collection. By the way, anybody out there know where I can get a copy of the "Black and Blue" tour film?

Summary: B.O.C.what more to say?
Review: I saw a video tape of this show, and if you are any kind of B.O.C. fan at all, you will dig it...NO DOUBT. 'Astronomy' alone is worth the price of admission. Awesome documentation of one of the worlds best bands ever.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I thought the audio and video quality was very poor on this DVD. The audio is only in 2 channel. The video was grainy. I knew it was going to be disappointing when during the first scene I saw the flash of stage explosions but the sound was dubbed out. I am a fan of Blue Oyster Cult and this recording is an injustice to the band.

Summary: An ok effort for the 1970's
Review: I was glad to see any live concert footage of BOC available, and on dvd. It is a very rough production and could be better but remember the technology of the day. Shot on film, which is good, but needed better direction on filming and on pre & post-production. Now the concert year to film should have been in 1982 during the Fire of Uknown Origin and ET Live tour. I saw BOC in Austin,MN in 1982 at the Riverside arena and that ET Live tour should have been filmed. Like the album it sounded better and was a better production for the BOC fan. BOC is in need of high tech employees to help them make current tours available to fans after they are done touring that cd.

Summary: This IS a good video!
Review: I was looking for a BOC concert on videotape and this was the only one I could find. To my dismay, the review of this concert, by many, was terrible. I waited a while, but finally bought it just to see if it was as bad as some were saying. Personally, I thought the tape was great.! I wasn't disappointed at all! Yes, the production is not very good; yes, the sound isn't very good either; but remember this tape was made back in 1976! This concert is basic. There are only a few colored lights and the stage is pretty dark. But so what! If you think or expect this to be like music videos or concerts of the "90's" or the "80's", you will be disappointed. Technology has clearly come a long way! I would recommend this tape to anyone who is a fan of BOC!

Summary: From someone who was there....
Review: I was lucky enough to have been at this concert and I can explain a bit about the quality of the footage. In the 1970's, the Capitol Center (which is where this event takes place) used to set up three cameras (one on the middle of the arena floor and two at each side of the stage) so that the concert could also be seen on the overhead big screens for those poor fans sitting up in the rafters. Basically this is a DVD of the footage from those video cameras, which accounts for the poor quality. Still, it's a rare glimpse into a band that was just about to break it big.
