Summary: Up There Beyond The Best
Review: Being the huge Placebo fan that I am, I couldn't wait for the American release of this DVD. I looked it up on Ebay and got it from a Mexican shop, and have loved every second of it. I've watched this numerous times since I got it a month ago, and it loses not a bit of luster. Among the pantheon of music movies, SND stands up there amongst the finest. The production, sound quality, set list and performance are state of the art, and as a whole, the package kicks ass. (sorry for the cliche, but i told ya earlier, I'm a Yank).

Brian is one of the best frontmen in the world and Stef is the perfect, um, "straight" (for lack of a better word...wink,wink)man. Together they are one of the best songwriting teams of our times.

I've watched numerous band vids, and the vast majority suck compared to this. (except for the almighty Pantera vids, which can't be touched.........ever). If you have any reservations about buying this vid, kick it is the ass. Else you'll kick your own for not buying it. Worth every cent, even the extra I paid for buying it off of Ebay.

Summary: Soulmates Never Die
Review: I will say upfront that I really like this band, as well as this DVD. The show it was pulled from, in Paris France, is an electric one, and a great one, where the band sounds better than they probably ever had. The set list draws well from all four of the studio albums as well as an awesome cover of the Pixies "Where Is My Mind?" with the man Frank Black himself. And they even change a few of the songs("Every me, Every You", "Sleeping With Ghosts") with excellent results. So I strongly recomomend if you are a Placebo fan to get this. Even if you are not, this serves as an excellent introduction to a great, underrated band.
The problem I had with this DVD was the super quick editing. For the first few songs in particular, the editor seems very chop happy, never leaving the camera to linger on the band for then a few seconds at a time. This is bothersome because it takes you out of the performance for moments at a time, leaving you to focus on things you probably wouldn't if you were at a show. Yes, the director did a very good job with camera shots, but we don't need to see every shot he did in the course of one song.
But after a few songs, it calms down(or maybe you jsut get used to it), and you can enjoy it as a fine performance video of a band at their peak.

Summary: soulmates NEVER die
Review: if your a hardcore placebo fan (...) i would suggest you get this dvd. its great. its got brian flirting with EVERYONE in the band including xav and bill, stefs lies about how he got a cut under his eye, and the infamous line of brian telling stef to do his "(...) dance" some parts of it are in french, but mostly english. theres even some easter eggs hidden in it.(...)
BUY THE DVD! its great!

Summary: Great! - But not without flaws
Review: Placebo - Soulmates Never Die - Live In Paris 2003 is an amazaing DVD, no doubt about that.

It contains the concert from Paris, and a documentary about the life on the road.

The reason you but this DVD is for the concert. The documentary is also quite interresting, but its a bit too long.

The concert starts with you seeing the band back stage, and music plyas in the background. They are sitting takeing pictures, drinking and warming up for the concert. You follow them all the way up to the stage, where the concert starts.
Already when the first little bid of the opneing number "Bulletproof Cupid" starts, you can really, as the DVD says, feel that there was something in the air that nigth.
You crowd is just jumping up and down all the way through the concert. They really feel their songs.

The setlist is pretty good, althogh there are some songs wich I think they could have played, like. "Nancy Boy" and "Teenage Angst"

The setlist is:

1. Bulletproof Cupid
2. Allergic
3. Every Me Evry You
4. Bionic
5. Protege Moi (Protect Me From What I Want, on french)
6. Plastecine
7. Bitter End
8. Soulmates
9. Black-Eyed
10. I'll Be Yours
11. Special Needs
12. English Summer Rain
13. Without You I'm Nothing
14. This Picture
15. Special K
16. Taste In Men
17. Slave To The Wage
18. Peeping Tom
19. Pure Morning
20. Centerfolds
21. Where is My Mind ( feat. Frbk Balck from The Pixies)

All in all 21 great songs, for me only the two ones missing.

The clipping of the DVD is bad, from the beging to around Black-Eyed. It goes way to fats, so you cant really get a good look at the band members or the audience. After Black-Eyed it gets good, really good.

The reason I "only" give it 4 is for the clipping and the fact that they play one of my farvourite song, Protect Me (from what I want), partly on french.

I say buy it. Even if youre not a big fan Placebo, you should get it. Its an amazing DVD - one in wich soulmates never die!

Summary: most extensively detailed live music film I¿ve seen
Review: The "Soulmates Never Die" DVD, was recorded in Paris (Oct 18, 2003), as part of the same tour we saw in Brisbane in March 2004. It's easily the most extensively detailed live music film I've seen. Sounding just as good as it looks too - and giving audiences who enjoyed the privilege of an "intimate" version of their show, a larger than life experience of their big stadium gala - packed to the rafters with 16,000 fans who are 100% behind the band. You're left in no doubt that these guys love their band, and their audience.

Summary: Brilliant and Mind Blowing...
Review: The concert begins, and you can feel the energy flowing through the songs, The effects on the footage make the DVD a mind blowing expirence (especially when watched at night with the lights out), it feels like your acctually there (that is if you don't concentrate on your surroundings), each song is played very well and to top it of Frank Black from the band "The Pixies" makes a guest apperance on "Where Is My Mind?", all 21 songs are performed better then on the albums, so if your a Placebo fan you'd have no regrets buying this, also if you already have the DVD you can access the hidden footage by pressing the up button on your DVD player remote whilst you have "setlist" highlighted, after pressing up, above should appear a tiny french flag click it and there you have hidden footage 1, repeat the above step but this time highlight stereo in the audio options and there you will find hidden footage 2. PLEASE NOTE: If you suffer from epilepsy this DVD is not for you. A warning appears on the back of the DVD case due to the strobing effect used on the footage.
