Summary: Tina - A Hot HOT Night in Rio
Review: This is a great concert, however, I do have to agree with other reviewers on the lighting and the sound quality concerns. Considering, though, that this was concert was broadcast live on HBO in early 1988, and that the performance has not been remastered, _almost_ what you see on this dvd is the same as what was broadcast on HBO.

So...what's the difference between the original broadcast and this dvd?? Well, for starters, the last 3 songs weren't in the original HBO broadcast. Secondly, the original airing, which ran 5 minutes OVER the 60 minutes allotted to it on HBO, "Nutbush City Limits" was included as the last song. The reason it's probably not on the dvd (or earlier vhs and laser releases) is that as soon as the song ends, without missing a breath, Tina says to the HBO viewers, "Goodnight HBO!!" And lastly, in the original airing, whoever was working sound missed the beginning of "Addicted to Love"; hence it's "edit" here on the DVD.

It is actually a great performance. What gives it some charm is that it has not been retouched. The added 3 songs over the original broadcast make nice extras :)

Now, if only a true updated "best" collection would be released, as well as a dvd of the "what's love" tour from 1993 :)

Summary: Good to see what "Live In Europe" looked like.
Review: Tina has incredible energy, blasting out 13 great show-stopping numbers without missing a beat. I thought her performance on "Let's Stay Together" and "Help" were fine; not as good as her latest DVD "One Last Time In Concert" On that show, her voice is the best its ever been.

My complaint is: Why do they edit out the show? I mean, I pay twenty something odd dollars to get half the show? Where's the rest of it. I thought when they put it on DVD they'd give the whole thing, but I guess not. The same thing with her live record. Half of its Private Dancer tour, the other Break Every Rule. For curiosity's sake, does anybody know the original set list for this show? Where does Nutbush City Limits go in the running order, and does she do the haunting ballad "Girls?"

Summary: The Lioness of Rock.
Review: Tina Turner is known as the singer that has sold more concert tickets in music history. On january 16th, 1988 she had her biggest night when she performed in front of 182,000 people at the Maracana Stadium.
This show was part of her record breaking Break Every Rule World Tour that took from 1987 to 1988 and performed for 3,5 million people. This show includes some of her 80's hits plus her classic PROUD MARY. Tina's performance is very good even though she sweats a lot because of the hit but also looks thrilled all the time because of the energy of the crowd that cheers to songs like TYPICAL MALE, PRIVATE DANCER, I CAN'T STAND THE RAIN, WHAT YOU GET IS WHAT YOU SEE, BETTER BE GOOD TO ME and WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT. The video starts with an intro from Tina walking in the beach and some footage from Rio, then the show starts with her classic cover ADDICTED TO LOVE. The one she had performed ever sience this tour. The things that I don't like about this video are that the show doesn't appear complete and that the image it's kinda dark but I also think that it's a must have for any dvd concert collector.
If you like Tina, I'd recommend also her "One last time" dvd.

Summary: Tina is Truly the Best! But where is your voice or light
Review: Tina was 48 when she performed to this stronge crowd of a record breaking 182,000. They performed 13 great numbers, but the lighting is so dark in Maracana Stadium, you can't tell that there are 182,000 people. Tina voice is not quite at its best and breathlessly belts out most of the tunes for the crowd. At the end Tina looks simply tired and this proves that she loves to please her crowd and they give her thanks for it. Tina You are the best! Love,
Ralph
