Summary: Still Rockin' After All These Years
Review: I am a long time fan of The Monkees. I am so glad King Biscuit had the guts to release a Monkees DVD Live! This is without a doubt a great taste of what went on during the Monkees Final Tour. Of course and unfortunately without Micheal Nesmith. Regardless, Micky, Davy & Peter put on a musically sound show. Playing the hits and songs from the TV show. Some songs were cut. I wished they had kept in "Porpoise Song", "Listen To The Band" and" Since I Fell For You" which really shows off Mickys voice! It's too bad that Peter was fired after this show.
The DVD was filmed great and the audio is awesome! Better than the CD's sold at the last few years concerts. It captures the energy of the 3 and shows the real talent they have. Peter is fabulous on all the instruments played! Too bad Micky only plays drums on "Mary, Mary", he is one of the most underrated drummers! Davy does not just shake a tamborine, He is an acomplished guitarist and his voice is great! Every Monkees fan should own this!

Summary: Jack???
Review: I had no idea Jack Osbourne had time to play trombone with the Monkees!

OK, seriously. I became a Monkees fan while watching the shows in reruns after school. I saw a number of their live shows the first year they reuinted and thoroughly enjoyed them. I didn't realize that they are still touring and was quite pleased to see this DVD available. In reading some of the reviews after viewing the DVD, I did remember that there was a good deal of entertaining banter onstage during the shows. However, unless you just saw them and are REALLY expecting this, the DVD will not disappoint you at all. It is far better than I expected when I ordered it - their performance is great and yes, there are lots of songs we love that could have been included...but the show IS only an hour long. Get it!

Summary: Monkees Stumble in Live Show
Review: I love the Monkees.

I really do.

I have all the albums...all the CDs...the videos of their show..even a real Monkees lunch box.

But this DVD does not show the group at it's best. Shaky hand held shots, dim lighting and inept editing make this DVD suitable as a cable access program. The sound mixing is amateur. True Monkee fans knew a show was taped several years ago and were hoping for the best. Live Summer Tour leaves a lot to be desired. Obviously someone, producer David Fishof, is trying to make a quick buck.

David Jones and Peter Tork work hard put on a good show. Even though Davey looks a little dazzed especially during Daydream Believer. Peter almost is on key for Can You Dig It.

The backup band is passable and sometimes annoying with their little "dance" routines. Could someone please tell the horn section to just sit down.

Mickey is another story. He seems detached from the whole affair and never engages the audience or the viewer. He is just going through the motions at another show -- it has been 35 years. It is almost like you are watching one of those animatronic figures at Disney World. His vocals are positively grating on Goin' Down (a mess!) and That was Then, This is Now. Perhaps the backup band needs to change the key.

I recommend this DVD and CD only (awful sound mix) for the true die hard Monkees fan. Don't say you were never warned.

Summary: Hey, Hey....They still got it!
Review: I saw the very first episode on 9/12/66...I own every original LP...have the whole Nesmith catalogue...all the episodes on
VHS, including "Head" and "33 and 1/3"...saw 'em live three times
live in '86 and '87...and now THIS???!!!...'bout time!!! This DVD
proves once and for all that these guys bring the goods...Davy, Mickey and Peter finally bury, for all eternity, the myth that they can't play their own guitars, drums or whatever...buy this just for an incredible take on "The Girl I Knew Somewhere"...
watch Mickey kick the funk out of the drums on "Mary, Mary"...
check out Peter nailing every opening lick of every huge Monkee
hit (including that finger stainer starter on "Pleasant Valley Sunday")...and Davy wowing the women with "Girl" and "Daydream Believer" (plus working the "Davy Dance" for the fun of it)...
with an incredible backup band, their trademark humor and a solid selection of tunes, I can only say....

BUY THIS NOW!

Summary: What We Did Get Was Great, But...
Review: I was so happy to finally get this DVD in my hands & I was not let down with what we got. The Monkees put on an EXCELLENT show & the DVD featured a lot of great shots. However, I was let down with what we didn't get. About an hour of the concert was cut out of this DVD & so many songs were missing. Luckily, pre-orders are now being taken by King Biscuit Entertainment at their official site for a limited edition extended & uncut DVD. If you liked this DVD or are considering buying it, I would recommend trying to get the uncut version. But, if they're no longer available, this DVD will do just fine.

Summary: Expected much more
Review: If you're a fan of the fellows consider this DVD a must-own as it is quite possibly the last perfomance by the 3 of them. As mentioned on other reviews Peter quit-was dismissed right after this show. My wife and I were present at this performance and so much was lost in the editing. I missed the brilliant "Monkees Overture" and Micky's show stopping "Since I Fell For You" spot. I can't understand why so much was cut out. Also odd is the fact that there are no photos of the guys on the cover. At any rate, it is a good overview of the hits and some idea of what the reunion tours were like. The video quality is good (not outstanding) and the 5.1 audio gets the job done. Too bad they didn't just release the unedited version of the show as they really blew the doors off this time.
