Summary: EARLY TOM JONES
Review: This DVD seems to be composed of elements of several TV shows done in London, England. The year must have been about 1967. In 1969, I had the pleasure of seeing Tom rehearsing for his "This is Tom Jones" show and performing concert segments in Hollywood. He was fantastic and he sang just as strong during rehearsels as he did for air shows. I feel that the television production quality appeared much better in Hollywood than what I saw on this DVD. It would be great to see performances done in America, especially with his guitar player Big Jim Sullivan and his "talking guitar" on DVD. This DVD does contain most of his hits, but the production was simple and almost every song was done with the same choreography.
I have seen Tom also perform in Las Vegas and in Hollywood concerts. I saw him again when he received his star on Hollywood Boulevard. I think that he is at his best in Las Vegas performing with a full orchestra. Next to Elvis, he is probably the best popular singer of our time but frankly, his style in his new songs do not stand up to his old renditions origionally made popular by Otis Redding. This DVD is good for your collection but it does not due justice to the real talent and capabilities of this great performer. My opinion is that the audio on this DVD is just OK compared to for instance, the Glenn Campbell in concert DVD. The video also looks strange to me. Probably it is because of the differences in the English and American scanning system and the early days of color television.
