Summary: Perfect introduction to a true ARTIST.
Review: That's right, she is not just a singer, she is an ARTIST. And that's what you'll see when you watch this.

Yes, she looks funky, like someone in the New Wave Genre, but she has many influences of music and blends them all. She runs from the totally-unable-to-be-put-into-a-genre to a Nine Inch Nails type to typical Techno-dance-club-type to Classical influence (string section substituted by accordion player)to many other types and various other songs that have bits of other types and genres bled into them.

There are some times when she looks a bit stiff, like her movement to the music is more mechanical than actually feeling it, but you'll see her ease up and have fun as the show goes on.

Outside of the accordion player, the only other constant musician you see is the drummer, who is an excellent addition to this show. Okay, there's also a few brief appearances of some guy behind a keyboard or organ ... but only a few times.

One of the best things, though, speaking as a musician and producer is the fact that her sound producers are on stage WITH her as members of a band and to make sure the sound is right; the mixing board is an instrument in itself, as one has to know the many, many dials and knobs to turn at specific parts of each song.

I always thought that the best way to introduce one self to any musician is to buy a greatest hits album, or a concert album (or tape, cd, etc.) And, as I said in my opening line, this is the perfect introduction.

I only give it 4 stars because "Live at Cambridge" had a real string section in the songs that required them.

That's a wrap.

Summary: WOW BAM! I LOOOOVE BJORK!!
Review: This video is absolutely marvelous and really shows how great Bjork is live, and if you wath it, you'll see just how great she is, especially when she'll have new instrumentations to give the song a slightly new mood or just that extra live-special-something. And her voice...FABULOUS FABULOUS! She sounds so good live when she adlibs new lines and brilliantly belts out new emphasis on lines and in songs where it's least expected. I just can't describe it...it's too wonderful. Well anyway BUY THIS VIDEO and see how truely hard Bjork, my favorite singer of all time, works and keeps going on stage to great and AMAZING RESULTS!!

PEACE!!

Summary: wonderful
Review: This video showcases the true genuis that is to witness Bjork perform live. The sheer energy and ingenuity that pours forth as Bjork sings goes unchallenged, and her passion for the performance remains unrivaled. This is a true window into the heart and soul of the performer and what it means to her to bring the joy she gets from writing and singing to all those who certainly enjoy listening. A must have for any Bjork fan; I know I loved it. The only reason that there is a star missing conspicuously from this review is that it resides in the video itself, and when you press play,...................she sings to you as only she can.

Summary: DIRECTED BY AN IMBECILE. WHAT A WASTE...
Review: Want to see close-ups of audience members, stagehands, and background musicians working keyboards, drums and synthesizers - while Bjork sings OFFscreen? Then you've come to the right place.

Could have been a glorious concert film, but unfortunately the moronic director seems to be interested in everything EXCEPT Bjork! Time and time again, while Bjork is hitting the high notes of an impassioned stage performance - the camera cuts AWAY from her and the lens is directed elsewhere.

Just what you always wanted: ENDLESS footage of fingers working the dials on an amplifier or a drum machine or some goddamned thing, while Bjork sings her heart out - OUT of camera range, that is.

This DVD will leave you exasperated and furious. I was ready to strangle the cameraman after viewing the $%&*@ thing. If I'd just wanted to hear her voice I'd have played the CD.

You should too. Save your money.

Summary: All the Favourites from "Debut" and "Post"!
Review: Watching Bjork's famous Shepherd's Bush Empire 1997 concert for the first time, I spent most of the first half-hour kicking myself for not being there myself, living in London at the time and all. The first disc in her 'Live DVD Series', the concert also exists on VHS, though the DVD quality promises that this will last longer than the less-than-durable video tape. And with DVD's awesome sound capability, you can always host your own Bjork concert in the comfort of your own home. Anyhoo, if you're going to buy a 'Live DVD', buy her "Cambridge" 1998 concert; but if you have that, you might as well have the whole set (her 2001 performance at London's Royal Opera House on her "Vespertine" tour is due for release soon).

The concert itself is a testament to Bjork's talent; and unlike most of today's 'Pop Product Placement' groups, she revels in a world of improvisation and experimentation, and, above all things, seems to be having the time of her life. Working on her "Homogenic" album during the tour (an album B-side, "I Go Humble", appears on the playlist), Bjork performs most of her songs on "Post" and a few from "Debut" with unique spins, incorporating live instrumentation and onstage mixing in a bigger, more varied display than her later "Cambridge" concert.

Standouts in the crew supporting Bjork include Yasuhiro 'Coba' Kobayahsi on the titular accordian (see "The Anchor Song") and, especially, Trevor Morais on drums and percussion (see "I Miss You"). But the best musical ad-libber of the bunch is Bjork herself, riffing on most of her songs wonderfully. And it gets her and live mixer Leila Arab out of a pickle when the programming for "Enjoy" is bungled; the formerly aggressive, dark song (co-produced by Tricky) turns into a colder, more menacing piece, thanks to the stripped bear ambience of the sounds emmitting from Arab's mixing desk and Bjork's illuminatory vocals.

Though there are no DVD special features whatsoever, bar the ability to skip or repeat songs at the press of a button, what remains is a shiny career highlight of the Icelandic chanteuse at her dancy, clubby best, before she got all orchestral and swoony on us. Brilliant.
