Summary: DEFINITELY NOT THE CARS I REMEMBER!!
Review: EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION LIKE IT OR HATE IT.HAVING SAID THAT THE CARS DVD IS ONE OF THE WORST IN MY COLLECTION.I REALIZE THAT THE SHOW IS FROM THE LATE 70'S AND TECHNOLOGY BACK THEN WASN'T WHAT IT IS TODAY BUT COME ON.THIS IS ANOTHER LOW BUDGET ATTEMPT BY RHINO TO RELEASE A GREAT BAND ON DVD.THE PICTURE IS AVERAGE TO GOOD AT BEST AND THERE ARE LOT OF BLEMISHES IN THE VIDEO TRANSFER.THE 5.1 AUDIO AS STATED ON THE DVD RANGES FROM POOR TO AVERAGE AND GIVEN THE FACT IT'S THE CARS THAT'S TERRIBLE.WHILE CARS CONCERT PERFORMANCES ARE VERY RARE,I BELIEVE A BETTER EFFORT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE BY RHINO RECORDS ON THIS ONE.THE CARS DVD IS OVER PRICED IN MY OPINION FOR THE LACK OF AUDIO/VIDEO QUALITY.THE ONLY JUMPING AROUND I DID,WAS IN COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT AND FRUSTRATION OF WHAT I SAW.

Summary: A historical gem
Review: Great to see the Cars in their early days. Performance is tight, quirky, Just what I wanted!. The interviews are informative reflecting the mood and perceptions of the band. Elliott Easton came over surprisingly well in the interviews and of course it was great if sad to see Ben Orr. The Cars were a great band and this is a fitting tribute. Unreservedly recommended.

Summary: Definitely For Cars Fans
Review: I bough this DVD the week it was released. Back in the late seventies, I was a rock-n-roll musician who played covers, including numerous Cars songs. Naturally, this DVD intrigued me. My first viewing left me disappointed. It sounded too live - not at all lush and produced like the vinyl. By the third viewing - I loved this DVD because it features what I loved about the band: the exceptional musicianship of each player. Without a doubt, these guys created the perfect synergy of being cool and making serious music. This concert was recorded before the Cars became famous, so they appear hungry, unpretentious and out-for-fun. The camera close-ups of Elliot's guitar playing, Greg's ARP Omni Synthesizer and Ben's cool vocals are energetic. The 45 minute interview is fun. The viewer will gain some insight into the personal nature of each player along with fun stories from their good old touring days.

Summary: Best Live Show Ever (in a cool, understated kind of way...)
Review: I can't accurately explain why, but this is my all-time favorite recorded performance of any band ever - better than STOP MAKING SENSE, better than GIMME SHELTER, etc. It's just the presense of the Cars, circa 1979, that is somehow...hypnotic? Uncanny? I don't know. It's just that each member had a presence that was somehow so extremely different from the other, that each managed to work out their own, individual brand of appeal. I love the way Ric Ocasek wanders around indifferently (and dig those praying mantis sunglasses!), the way David Robinson plays the drums with a goofy-yet-precise rock n' roll manner, the way Greg Hawkes diplays his endearing, not-of-this-earth new wave preening (often directly at the camera), the way Elliot Easton tosses off his Kinks-like riffing (complete with eye squints, gaping mouth, and glossy stare), and the way Ben Orr (the greatest voice of the era and my sentimental favorite) exudes the ideal sensibility, a combination of arrogant swagger and artsy sensitivity. The Cars have unfortunately faded in reputation, yet this dvd monumentalizes all that was great about them, a group of great musicians who all brought something unique to the band, giving it a one-of-a-kind chemistry. As a humourous plus, the Musikladen audience seems every bit as "out there" and indifferent as Ocasek! Sure, the interview that is included on the disc is tinged with melancholy (especially when Ocasek pats the visibly ailing Orr on the shoulder...), yet it's an invaluable document. Let's hope Rhino continues to maintain the legacy of The Cars - they've done a brilliant job thus far.

Review: I cannot believe every1 else's rating on this. It gets a 1 cuz of who they are fanominal band... I have over 100 dvd's & had to sell this 1 since it DID NOT sound anything like the songs I sang growing up with 6 cd's. Would recommend this to any1. Again 1 of my top 10 bands out of 200 but there performance or sound on this DVD is terrible

Summary: Classic Cars....
Review: I have been a Cars fan since their first album (yes album) came out in 78. I was glad to see Rhino release this live dvd. This is the Cars at their rawest. They play all their earlier hits like Just What I needed, Best Friends Girl, and also play an unreleased tune that has hever been released. I wish they would release more Cars concerts on dvd, and also it would be nice to see a dvd release of all their videos with interviews and other cool stuff. I highly recommend this dvd if you are a Cars fan, or just like great music in general....

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: I highly recommend getting this DVD!!! The concert is fun to watch, especially Elliot Easton on guitar. The lighting isn't the greatest but sound is good and you sure can see all the artist playing each of their parts to the fullest. The interview is pretty good with Elliot Easton and Ric Ocasek talking the most and Ben Orr (feeling ill at the time) speaking the least. It is a definite must have/see for all Cars fans! Some proceeds go to the Benjamin Orr Memorial Fund, who passed away in Oct 2000.

Review: I like the cars music,however this is a really bad dvd.the video footage looks like it was taken by an amateur, the lighting is poor, and most of it is just viewing one member at a time. This gig looks like it was filmed in a small bar. save your cash for another cars dvd, if there is one.

Summary: It's All They Can Do...But It Could Have Been More
Review: I rented this DVD, and it's not bad, but it could have been better. The live concert sounds kinda grainy - couldn't they have released a show from their later tours like the Heartbeat City tour? The interview gives plenty of insight into a very unique and innovative band. I just wish there was more music. One suggestion - they should re-release their videos for songs like "Drive" and "You Might Think" and throw in any live performances that they can come up with. Rest In Peace, Ben Orr.
