Summary: Two for One
Review: I'll keep this brief. Fleetwood Mac is an awesome band, even when they're not at their best. It is important to note that it takes TWO lead guitarists (Billy Burnette and Rick Vito) to approximate the amount of music Lyndsey Buckignham makes by himself, and they don't equal it.
About the video:
The music is good - the vocals are good.
BUT
Where the heck is 'Tango In the Night'? The title cut from the album isn't in the concert! This is supposed to be the 'Tango In The Night' tour - and they didn't play it!

Summary: THIS is Fleetwood Mac? WHERE is Lindsey!?
Review: It took Mick Fleetwood only a few days to find a guitarist/vocalist to replace Lindsey Buckingham following his unexpected departure in 1987 for Fleetwood Mac's upcoming, already booked tour. As great as those two guitarist are (yes, two. even two do not equal the power of Buckingham) this DVD proves that Lindsey Buckingam cannot be replaced in Fleetwood Mac. Filmed at San Fransico's Cow Palace Arena, this video captures the 1980's alright, complete with glam, big hair, sparkle, synthesized sound and re-filmed close ups of Stevie (a la Stevie Live @ The Red Rocks DVD) wearing some pretty hilarious hats. In between the songs, there are few behind the scenes shots which clearly show Mick Fleetwood's hard living ways during this time. The music is well put together, but Lindsey's presence is sorely missed - How could you sing "The Chain" without one of its greatest links!? Christine delivers a few great performances, such as "Little Lies" and "Everywhere" (minus Stevie's add in lyrics) and Stevie gives an excellent performance of "Gold Dust Woman" and "Seven Wonders". "Stand Back" is included, but it is not her best performance of this show-stopper (check out the Live in Boston DVD or Red Rocks DVD). "Don't Stop" is heard but isn't seen as it is played as the credits roll at the end. For a die-hard fan its worth having, otherwise don't bother. Warner brothers could have picked a better release, such as the Mirage Tour '82 or Tusk Tour '80 "Tango In The Night" the album, which feature Buckingham, is an excellent work of art. Too bad the tour didn't follow that expectation. Instead, invest in "The Dance" DVD (truly incredible, with all of their onstage magic), which includes all members of Fleetwood Mac and was filmed in 1997 for their reunion tour.

Review: Linsay Buckingham may not have been present on stage during the "Tango in the Night" concert, but I'll have to take my hat off to the lead picker. He makes Linsay Buckingham an over-rated guitarist. You people would be surprised as to who is out there playing music who never got a fair shot. These guys don't fool around. I'm sure Linsay would testify to that himself. I like Linsay Buckingham and think he's a great player. Let's not let the NAME in the music industry drown out reality. Some people think that a Kareoke Machine itself is the greatest musician that ever was. Get Real! I would have to say that Mick Fleetwood, Linsay Buckingham and John McVie made the whole band. If you could ask "The Funk Brothers" of Motown or "Hittsville" in Detroit, they will tell you: Anyone could have been the star that could carry a note. It was "The Funk Brothers" as musicians that MADE Motown. I wouldn't be one to go around and knock Rick or Billy on any account! God Bless both of them. Great Concert!

Summary: Good music is good music is good music!
Review: Many reviewers here seem to be more Fleetwood Mac fans and less music fans? I'm a Mac fan also, but was pleasantly surprised with the two new replacements (Billy Burnette and Rick Vito) in this video. One of Fleetwood Mac's strengths is the variation of songs and styles resulting from having three different singers/songwriters in the band. Instead of knocking them, I view Lindsay Buckingham's replacements as a continuation of such (and I am a Lindsay Buckingham fan also). Sure, the video may have been 'overproduced' (is it a video, or is it a concert?), and one could nitpick different areas, but many of the songs sounded better than any previous renditions I'd previously heard. I don't know which is the lead guitarist (Burnette or Vito), but I thought he put on a heckuva show, and is definitely talented. Is he a better guitarist than Lindsay Buckingham? That would be tough call, and isn't that alone reason enough to view this video? The only reason I didn't give this video 5 stars is that it's only 60 minutes long. A few more Mac favorites (heck, I'd be willing to give a few more of the newcomers' songs a try) to stretch it to around 90 minutes would have made it great.

Review: Okay, if you want a good Fleetwood Mac video (DVD preferably, you'll wear a VHS out) you should try for The Dance, and the (rare import) Mirage Tour DVD. If you still need more (and I assure you, you will) come back for this.Lindsey Buckingham is not present at this concert, obviously causing the band to lose some of it's magical aura. The dynamic between Stevie and Lindsey being lost, they don't seem quite as dramatic and ethereal. Still, the two guitarist, Rick Vito and Billy Burnette, play wonderfully, if Burnette does pull some cheesy stunts at moments. The show opens with a half-decent rendition of the chain, then launches into Everywhere. Christine is the star of this show. You will WEEP at the brilliance of Isn't it Midnight, and Little Lies. However, Stevie's voice is kinda weak on this one. She turns out an okay Seven Wonders, and a pretty good (albeit very fast) rendition of Dreams. Still, her performance of "Stand Back" from the Wild Heart album is the highlight of the show. The video is worth it just for Stand Back and Isn't it Midnight.

Review: Picked this one up cheap out of curiosity, and it's definately not impressive. Granted, I wasn't expecting much, with a 1988 release date and only 60 minutes of footage, but it was even worse than I expected. Musically it isn't bad, Vito and Burnette aren't bad, Vito especially is a very capable and professional player, certainly deserving a better fate in the band than he had, and they both do an adequate job of covering for Buckingham's vocals. The performances are well done, although none are exceptionally inspired. The real problems lie with the video, which suffers from poor camera angles, overall dark lighting, and, as mentioned, the pointless Stevie closeups. While she is still a goddess in my eyes, the closeups (which obviously don't match what is going on musically) and ridiculous hair really get annoying after about two songs, and her voice wasn't exactly at her strongest on that tour. If, like me, you were interested in just seeing what the post-Buckingham tours were like, then it might be amusing, but don't expect too much.

Summary: Great show!
Review: Stevie sings beautiful throughout this concert. Highlights of this DVD are the songs from the "Tango in the Night" album, like "Seven Wonders" and "Isn't It Midnight". These are the songs that were sadly missed during the last Fleetwood Mac tour. "Stand Back" is also really, really good. The best recorded live version of this song yet!

Summary: Not Up to Mac Standards
Review: This DVD was filmed near the end of the band's "Tango in the Night" tour in 1988 and it is a letdown on many levels. Billy Burnette and Rick Vito, brought in to fill the gap left by Lindsey Buckingham's departure, lack the stage presence and vocal electricity of Mr. Buckingham. Stevie Nicks, looking like she'd rather be somewhere else, is a major disappointment. She was battling depression and vocal problems during this time and her performances seem phoned in only to be redubbed later. Only Christine McVie sounds great, but her material is often too bland and lightweight. As for the production, this concert sounds and looks like it was digitally created instead of recorded. Choose "The Dance" instead.
