Summary: CHEAP TRICK CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
Review: This band continues to hone their craft, and they simply get better and better as time goes on. Whether you are a casual fan, or a die-hard, this latest DVD captures Cheap Trick in their live element, performing a mixture of hits and album tracks. The 5.1 surround sound is thunderous, capturing all the nuances of Bun's drum work, rick's crunch, robins screams and tom's 12 sting bass. It's like being there. Picture quality ranges from great to not so great depending on the camera angle, but this is a live show with the varied lighting you'd get being there, so just like being there, the clarity varies with the lighting. It's a great DVD, from one of the best American bands ever. These guys still play with conviction, and are a true four piece band. Show me another 25 year old band that can do this. No sampling, no offstage backup vocals, no horn section, no pyrotechnics. Just Pure, straight-up, rock n roll. Young, up and coming bands lack this kind of energy. CHEAP TRICK!!

Summary: Raw and Intense
Review: This DVD concert is the result of four intense concert appearences by Cheap Trick at the Metro in Chicago. Each night Cheap Trick would play a complete version of one of their first four albums so with this DVD, and the CD released a while back, you get the best performances played by the band during those sets.

As the CD, this DVD is "straight in your face" 70's hard rock without any special effects or sound mix to cover for any mistakes or sound problem. But, fear not as there are no mistakes made by the band and the sound, although this is for sure not the best sounding DVD in the market, is true to concert atmosphere.

The band just burns through each track with great playmanship and intensity. The best thing about this concert footage is that you feel how exited the band members are of playing these songs.

My only complaint is that perhaps the video quality is not the most "professional" one I have seen. I know that the show was filmed with video camaras in order to have that bootleg or home made feel but some of the shots really loose resolution compared with others in the video that were shot with high resolution cameras.

Anyhow is a great chance to experience Cheap Trick's music at its best and therefore a good buy for any fan of hard 70's rock.

Summary: Superb!
Review: This DVD makes me really bummed that it's been years since the band was last here in Australia!!
It's really awesome, and the commentary track is worth the price alone!
They just get better and better - Robin's voice is beyond compare, Rick is a total legend, Tom is just too cool for school and Bun E. rocks!
Buy this, you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Could Have Been Alot Better...
Review: Very disjointed for lack of a better word. The track list is big disappointment and the playing marginal at best. Zander's voice is stronger than ever, Bun E. kicks..., but Rick Nielson's amateurish guitar playing is really brought to light here.
Trick did four nights at the Metro playing one of their first four albums in its entirety at each show. Why not show one entire show start to finish in the spirit of the original concept? Long time Cheap Trick fans will love and hate this dvd simultaneuosly. At times they really rock with no equal and at times they sound flat out old & tired.

Summary: Now I know why I'm a Cheap Trick Fan!!
Review: Well folks after viewing "Live in Austrailia", then "Silver" (in that order-oh, and don't forget "Every Trick in the Book") Music for Hangovers typifies the true energy of Cheap Trick in a smaller venue. I like the stripped down versions of the songs (sans keyboard), because it didn't abide by the rules of a studio album. Bun E. is one of the most dexterous drummer I have ever seen, almost watching a whole marching band in one person...Robin singing was excellent, Rick's guitar playing was awesome and Tom's bass playing stunned me..he was so note perfect, everything thing he did shaped the song. This reminds me for some reason of a Hard Rock performance I had seen in Miami a few years ago. More intimate, music cutting right through you like a knife, and that connection between audience and band. To be quite honest I could have done without Billy and D'Arcy but I would tell anyone to buy this first before buying Silver. Peace

Summary: It's almost like being there! It Rocks!!!!
Review: Well this has to be one of the most anticipated DVD's for me in the past 3 years. And let me tell you, it does not disappoint in the least! Cheap Trick is represented here with what they do best.....LIVE MUSIC that will rock you and roll you all over your living room!

I was lucky enough to be at all four of the Chicago Metro shows back in 1998. This DVD is a great keep-sake from those 4 nights of incredible music and vibes. The sound quality on this DVD is just spectacular! I recommend the 5.1 selection, you feel like you are standing in the middle of the main floor at the Metro!

The video is pretty good quality too, although some camera shots are not quite as crisp as others, but it will not take anything away from this experience. The fish-eye camera lens is pretty cool too, but I must admit it took me off guard the first time I viewed this DVD.

There are a few extras on this DVD, but the one that you must go to after your view the concert is the "commentary track". Oh, man-I feel off the couch laughing hysterically! All four members of Cheap Trick are in one this one and let me tell you, it's a great time! You feel like you are in the room watching it with them. They should start their own comedy group.

The poke fun at themselves, give you cool and interesting facts on certain facets of their equipment, choice of clothes, favorite songs, moments, etc. It's truly a privilege to be in on their conversation.

All-in-all this DVD, "Music For Hangovers" was well worth the wait! If you were not able to be there, you will be able to get an idea of what that night was all about. For those of you that were there, it's a great ride back to those four nights in which Cheap Trick proves again that they are one of, if not, the best, live bands in rock history!

Summary: Must have MFH!
Review: What can I say? Viewing this DVD left my jaw on the floor. These guys are so amazing in concert and the commentary section is hysterical. It was a real treat to see them perform material from their debut album, too. "The Ballad of TV Violence" was especially fantastic.

Summary: almost perfect
Review: When Cheap Trick first started out, they were pretty much a case of visual polar opposites. Robin Zander & Tom Petersson looked like your typical rock stars. Rick Nielsen was the goofy guitarist, and drummer Bun E. Carlos looked like he could be their dad. But there was always that one thing the fans knew--they rocked. 25 years later, they still do. They've influenced a whole generation of power pop wannabes, and left them all wallowing in the dust.

When "Music for Hangovers" was originally released on CD in 1999, the liner notes included hints of an impending DVD release. I'm happy to announce that it's finally here. After starting with "Oh Claire," the boys churn out hit after hit, along with a few choice album tracks for the diehards out there. Ex-Smashing Pumpkins frontman and fellow Chicago native, Billy Corgan makes a guest appearance on "Mandocello." Corgan's ex-bandmate, D'Arcy joins the band later for a rousing version of "If You Want My Love." After the aural assault of "The Ballad of T.V. Violence," Petersson's pounding bass kicks off the show closer, "Gonna Raise Hell."

There are a few extras on the DVD, but the best one of them all is the hilarious "commentary track." All four members of the band participate and it's worth the price of the DVD all by itself. My only complaint with this DVD is the editing. Much of the stage banter heard on the CD is either faded up/down, or is just not there at all. Aside from that, prepare to be blown away when you hit that play button. This is one great DVD.

Summary: incredible dvd! as usual they are incredible...
Review: with the exception of a 5.1 soundtrack that doesn't seem to work for some reason, this dvd is by far the greatest single rock concert event to ever appear on dvd. cheap trick who remain the hardest working and most electrifying live acts around is presented here up close and personal both live and in the commentary track (that can be found in the audio section). like mystery science theater 2000, you can view the whole concert with hilarious conversation by all four guys who give insightful and very "inside" details on all four nights that we see on the screen. as far as the concert itself...its all here from robin's swagger and incredible voice to bun e's tasteful drum fills and...snare/hi-hat swing, rick's perfect rock god/geek guitar solos/vocal harmonies and tom's ultra cool 12-string bass strumming. the band is sheer genius and by listening to the commentary you get the sense that these guys love one another and respect each other more so than most bands who have worked together for this long. the video quality and presentation is so incredible its as if you have a dv camera pointed from the tip of the front of the stage. you see every detail, from robin's weird facial hair (hehe) to tom's bass "chairy" perched atop his zeppelin bass rig, the dvd is clear as day and much nicer to view than "silver" (which is genius in it's own right)...
