Summary: My musical preferences have changed!
Review: Well, just out of the blue I bought this new live DVD set and I must say...OH MY GOD, what an amazing talent. I am now an instant fan and I can hardly listen to anything else. Alison's first album was produced when she was a teenager (1987?). She has more Grammy's than any other female with a total of 17 (3-won just this year). I am still in a little shock over what I witnessed on this DVD. A couple of the tunes actually Brought tears to my eyes. I'm talkin' real tears running down the cheeks kind of tears. I had to fight back the emotions that were welling up inside me. I'm a 42-year old man, married 23-years, hulking outdoor type and no other music has ever made me feel this way. Unbelievable! What a thrill!!! I watched this concert on my 57" HD widescreen TV and all I can say is spectacular. I own quite a few Live music DVD's and this one wins hands down for sound and image quality. You have to turn the volume up a little when Alison speaks but I think that is just because she has such a soft sweet voice. I must add that she is such a crack-up. What a great sense of humor, she and the band. What more can I say, I am so happy to have happened upon this DVD set. I am a changed man. My musical preferences cover a large range from classical music to Rock (mainly Jethro Tull) and some country music. I am not even interested in the pop-country music that has been dominating the airwaves the last few years. Awefull stuff, Crap! I have over 1000-CD's and AKUS adds a new demention to my listening pleasure and will dominate it for years to come. Buy this 2-DVD set and you will not be disappointed at all. I promise. Thank You AKUS, Thank You! :)

Summary: Truly First Class
Review: Video and audio quality is exceptional. LOVE the songs and sequence, as well as the between-song comments by Alison and the others. A real first class group and concert. Have watched it three times in the first week, recommended it to everyone, have loaned it out, and am here to send another as a gift. The interviews and extras on the second disc are also great. This is my New Favorite DVD. :-)

Summary: Really Good Concert
Review: Great performance; my only gripe is that in between songs, it is sometimes very difficult to her Alison speaking. It doesn't detract from the music, though, which is superb.

Summary: AKUS Live
Review: Alison Krauss + Union Station was once a band only popular with bluegrass and country fans; however, recently they have been gently pushed into the publice eye with the help of the motion picture "Oh, Brother Where Art Thou?" Although When You Say Nothing At All featured on the album "A Collection: Baby Now That I Found You" initially caught the attention of the masses, only recently has AKUS been heavily in the spotlight. The most recent addition to AKUS' collection, "AKUS: Live DVD" is quite a treat for AKUS and bluegrass fans alike. The band's stage prescence and instrumental, as well as vocal ablities are absolutley incredible. The music is played passionatly and powerfully. The song list selected for this particular concert is wonderfully extensive. Many are from AKUS' latest album, "New Favorite." However, a few go as far back as "Everytime You Say Goodbye." Many of the well-known songs such as Stay are played more up-beat, partially thanks to the drummer Larry Atamanuik. While others are played a bit differently such as Cluck Old Hen and Oh, Atlanta. The sound quality featured on the DVD is obviously phenomenal. All of the instruments are heard clearly, as goes for the beautiful vocals lended by of course Alison Krauss, as well as Dan Tyminski, and Ron Block who is featured on his new original: Faraway Land. Jerry Douglas is also amazing with the dobro he so masterfully wields. The bass player Barry Bales is also exquisite with his instrument and back up vocals. Visually, the DVD is beautiful. The cinematography showcases the monstrous Louisville Palace in Louisville, KY, not to mention AKUS' instrumental skills. The wonderful close-ups pull the audience in creating a fantastic sense of unity with the band. As far as the special features go: The interviews, homevideos, and photos are very personal. Disc 2 also features AKUS' primary disography. The New Favorite music video can also be found. A few other music videos would have been nice but New Favorite is still incredible. There is also an emotional tribute to AKUS' road manager Frank Edmonson. Overall, AKUS Live DVD is a mesmerizing experience. A must-have for any AKUS fan, as well as a great starting point for new fans of some of the most talented musicians in the music industry.

Summary: Was There,,,Live
Review: As you enter the theater you were handed a disclaimer from Rounder Records ,stateing that any picture, sound , hoop or hollas ,made by you were the property of them . I was glad to join in . The concert was recorded two nights , I got the 2ed night. Any live concert is always special , this one was perfect.
The sound was pure clean. Alison was beautiful . And there were
some guys standing around her. The audience was quite and was there to soak in the pure magic of AKUS. A night to remenber.

The DVD gives you something that's impossible to get even at concert . The close up's , the different angles, the intenceity
of the proformance. The sound quality gives a new sence that can't be captured live. Perfect through all channels.
Crystal clear picture. Want to be there ? With this DVD you are.
Sadly the two encores were not included , Down to the River and
Go to Sleep Little Baby. This would have taken the total concert to it's beautiful ending. Just Alison one mic and the rest of AKUS, Perfect,,,,,,,,,

Summary: Must own DVD of the year
Review: I've never been a fan of country or bluegrass music but this DVD just blew me away. I've never heard a live performance from a band that was as tight as Union Station. All the band members are virtuosos in their own right, there are no big egos, and Alison's voice makes you melt. A combination that is very RARE. The song selection is fantastic with lots of variety from the band jamming on classic tunes like Cluck Old Hen, dobro solos, and Union Stations's most popular songs. Their are a couple of negatives about the DVD.

The first is that in DTS or Dolby surround their is no center channel and the second is that bonus DVD with the interviews is of very low quality with bizzare editing and looks like it was put together by a first year film student. Despite these problems the DVD is a must buy and one of the greatest performances on DVD.

Summary: They don't come much better.
Review: This is an absolute gem! The brilliant Alison Krauss fronting some of the finest pickers on the planet, in one of the most beautiful auditoriums around. What more could you ask for? Contrary to the review from the gentleman in England, I found the sound to be absolutely first rate. Perhaps the PAL edition is not up to the standard of the NTSC version(?)
It's worth the money just to visually experience the jaw-dropping Dobro playing of Jerry Douglas, but seeing and hearing the marvellous Dan Tyminski first-hand is an unforgettable bonus. It's also wonderful to see just how effortlessly Alison can deliver a song. Something I'd never realized before watching her in close-up . A beautiful lady with an beautiful voice.
Dont pass on this one!
