Summary: A Fitting Tribute
Review: Can enough accolades be heaped on Brian Wilson? I think not! To see his peers perform these songs must have been a pleasure and joy for Brian.
For me, it was reason enough to go out and buy a DVD player! And it was well worth it! Once past that Martin boy, the Paul Simon solo performance was breathtaking...and just suggestion of the gems that lie ahead.
Performers kept coming....Vince Gill, Carly Simon, David Crosby, Jimmy Webb, Elton John, Billy Joel and even some rockers from the present came to pay homage. Not to mention comments by Sir George Martin and Dennis Hopper!
Having seen the Pet Sounds Symphonic Tour in 2001, I was well aware of the musicians that backed up every act - The Wondermints plus people like Jeff Foskett. The back up music MADE the concert the success that it was - the impeccable music coupled with 5-,6- and sometimes 7-part harmonies....just incredible.
Anyway, thanks to TNT for showing the tribute initially...and thanks to all for this astonishing DVD....Brian is THE MAN!

Summary: Very Good Live Audio Mix
Review: First off, fast forward past the Ricky Martin stuff (what were they thinking?). For me, the concert begins with Paul Simon and his wonderful interpretation of Surfer Girl.

Before buying this DVD I didn't know much about Vince Gill and hearing him sing "The Warmth Of The Sun" totally blew me away. Sometimes I put on this DVD just to hear Vince sing this song. "Surf's Up" is also excellent.

Another favorite performance is Aimee Mann & Michael Penn singing "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times". Just amazing.

Some terrific performances, some good performances, some ok performances.

This DVD is well worth the money. As a musician, I especially appreciate the audio mix and the camera work. The mix is excellent and I recommend playing it loud. It's a great show.

Summary: It ain't the Beach Boys
Review: For starters Ricky Martin singing the Beach Boys made me want to puke. Having said that, there are some great performers on this dvd, but they can't do justice, let alone the harmonies, to the Beach Boys classics we have come to know and love. Yes, Vince Gill is awesome, the only thing better would have been the Beach Boys. Ask yourself this, would you rather hear Tony Bennett sing "Pretty Woman" or Roy Orbison. Do you get what I am trying to say? As to the appearance of Brian himself on this dvd.....sadly, it reminded me of watching Willie Mays stumble around in centerfield with balls bouncing off his head in the waning days of his career. I would hate to think that would be anyone's last memory of the "late" great Brian Wilson.

Summary: Thoroughly Entertaining
Review: I couldn't give this FIVE stars because of a few MAJOR flaws. Namely the two OPENING tunes by Rickie Martin.

Why begin such a wonderful compilation of tunes / artists with this man? Argh. Perhaps his funky little bootie-shankin' moves work with his manufactured style of music--but he's hardly worthy of TWO songs anywhere on this DVD, let alone the beginning.

Aside from that gripe, it's a great DVD. GOOD VIBRATIONS is so well done. And the ALL STAR ENSEMBLE tunes (Barbara Ann and Fun, Fun, Fun) are so much fun to watch.

FOUR STARS does NOT mean I don't recommend it. I'm just overly critical and not much gets FIVE stars from me.

Summary: Vintage Brilliance by Genius Brian.
Review: I have to be honest when I first brought this DVD I didn't even have a DVD player, I knew something this special could not be on the old Prehistoric VCR I just had to get it.

I looked at the back and to my surpirse Ricky Martin singing Beach Boys classics, something I could never have thought. (Well done awsome songs)

I have seen Brian in concert and I have seen the Beach boys in concert in the last 15 months I honestly never thought that something like this would come out... I have seen tributes to Paul McCartney, Sammy Davis Jr. and Bob Dylan I never though something like that would ever be done for Brian Wilson but he deserves it......

There is rock legend's all around this DVD Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Elton John, David Crosby the list just keeps on going....

All of everyones favorite Beach Boys songs are played including the Masterpeices Good Vibrations and Surfs Up. Performed by these Rock and Roll Legends....

Movie Star tributes from Racheal Hunter, Dennis Hopper and Chazz Palminteri........

Appearances are: Ricky Martin, Paul Simon, Go-Go's, David Crosby, Carly Simon, Jimmy Webb, Vince Gill, Evan and Jaron, Elton John, Aimee Mann and Michael Penn, Billy Joel, Darius Rucker (Hootie), Matthew Sweet, Wilson Phillips, Heart, Jubilant Sykes, The boys Choir of Harlem and The Radio city Orchastra.

When you have back up singers like those people you know that the show will be really spectacular.....

However the only downer is that My favourite Beach Boys song has been cut in half Barbara Ann has been cut sevearly.... That song and Fun, Fun, Fun is performed with all of the special guests on stage..... Also included is a real unique Special Features, for more info Buy the CD........

Summary: This Tribute is Excellent!
Review: I thought this video was fantastic! A terrific tribute to a songwriting genius! Before viewing this, I was a fan of Brian Wilson, but I didn't even know how much work went into each song! This tribute had many highlights for me including Elton John singing God Only Knows and the man, Brian Wilson himself, singing Love and Mercy. I also really enjoyed the final songs where everybody was on stage singing along with Brian and busting some crazy dance moves! All in all, this is a must have for any Brian Wilson fan

Summary: I can't wait
Review: I was remembering this concert last night while in an online chat! Don't Worry Baby came on my radio.... I told my online friends that Billy Joel slayed Don't Worry Baby in this concert, and I mean that in the best possible sense! This tribute concert is unsurpassed, period. So today, I shopped Amazon, and whaddya know! Hooray!

Thanks for reminding about the incredible Vince Gill! I just ordered this....after three years I am very, very eager to see this again. I agree it is a time-capsule concert, I've never seen anything better! To those who were there, envy envy envy, lol! Suffice it to say that after three years I still want it. It's comin, hooray again!

Summary: GREAT compositions, AWESOME performances, BEST tribute
Review: I'm totally overwhelmed by the music and performances that are on this DVD, not in the least by the absolute world class of Brian Wilson's compositions, but there are some great performances on this tribute too.
Unforgettable: Ann and Nancy Wilson and their absolutely STUNNING performance of Good Vibrations!!!
Surf's Up by David Crosby, Vince Gill and Jimmy Webb: AWESOME!! And these are just the two that come to mind first..!!
The extra's are nice (interviews) but not that special IMHO, BUT having said that; THIS DVD is worth buying even if there had been NO special features on it!!

Summary: DVD specs misleading, is *not* anamorphic widescreen!
Review: Just a word of caution, I bought this DVD as it was advertised to be in 16:9 widescreen format, and I recently bought a widescreen HDTV set.

Only when I got home and played it I discovered that it's in a 'fixed' widescreen format (i.e. black bars are encoded into the fullscreen picture) as opposed to the more commonly anamorphic widescreen format.

So what I eventually got was a widescreen version surrounded by four black bars! I guess TNT hasn't produced too many DVD's yet for the marketplace, but they better check their video production values the next time, this one sucks!
