Summary: Great To Watch or Listen
Review: Althought Closter To The Heart and The Trees are states as Live tracks, they definatley are not. As far as I recall only Red Barchetta from 1983's Exit Stage Left (Which I think was only on Laserdisc in Japan because that was the only VHS copy I could find)

Live footage is incorporated, but they are Studio tracks recorded at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec. This is a pleasent studio up in the Quebec mountains.. wonderful place.

Anyways, about 3-4 of the songs show them in studio at Le Studio.

So once again, only 1 live track... but who cares RUSH rocks!

This is a defiante must have. Rush doesnt have many things like this (Oh I wish I could get A Show Of Hands on video or DVD)

Hope everyone is looking forward to the Fall DVD of Rush Live in Rio!

Summary: Not bad, but awful selection
Review: This DVD spans Rush from 77-87. Highlghts include an excellent live version (in a studio or concert hall of some kind, not live audience) of The Trees, and the same with Closer to the Heart (although this one is lip synched directly from Kings). I found the DVD quality quite good. But totally disagreed with the selection of videos. Too much from Power Windows and Hold Your Fire (the 2 albums that basically ruined this once KILLER band). Afterimage cranks,as well as Red Sector A, taken from the Pressure tour video. Highly recommended. 31/2 stars. Also of note are Sawyer and Limelight, filmed in LeStudio during the recording of Moving Pictures (less than a month after I saw them in concert...awesome show baby. These guys sure were terrific back then).

Summary: As it should be
Review: I was a bit surprised by the selection of videos but not the quality of production. Those who grumble about sound/video quality miss the point. As with any re-release, we are stuck with the limitations of the original recordings. No there aren't any extras but it does whats' advertised - It plays Rush videos. Don't forget, Rush was one of those 'Pioneers': among the very first artists showcased on MTV (see "Subdivisions", "Distant Early Warning"). That alone makes this DVD priceless. Had the DVD included all of the original MTV videos, I would have given it 10 stars!! Maybe in another release??

Summary: Neil Peart and Rush
Review: I just picked up The Spirit of Radio CD with the 4-song DVD and I have concluded that Neil Peart is the best drummer of all-time. I have been a huge fan of Rush, but have never seen them live. I cannot wait for them to come to Northern California. Close your eyes and you can hear the layers of bass, drums and guitar, along with the keyboards. Truly a remarkable band that I think never got the accolades they deserve.

Summary: Spotty sound ruins the whole experience
Review: Since this is the only official Rush release on DVD so far, we'll have to take what we can get.

But the sound rather poor. There are noticeable drop-outs throughout many of the older videos, and rarely rises much above VHS quality.

And why, oh why, did they include the edited version of "The Big Money" when the original, longer version would have easily fit on the available disc space? Not that this is the only instance of this unpardonable sin - the Van Halen Video Hits Volume One has TWO edited videos --- "Humans Being" and "Without You".

Had I known about the poor sound quality and edited videos I may have chosen to hold off on purchasing this DVD and wait until a better option came along. Sure, it is great to have some vintage Rush in my DVD library, but the excitement of watching and listening is dampened by the crushed expectations of the DVD-sound format.

Until they release the "Grace Under Pressure" concert or something even more recent on DVD, I guess I'll have to settle for the defective bone they threw us.

Summary: Buying it is not an option
Review: Chances are, if you are looking through the reviews to decide whether to invest in this DVD, then there is really no alternative. Go ahead & buy it. You know you want it. Even if (like me) you already had it on VHS, the little-extras will be enough to entice you into the purchase.

How can you resist the idea of 100-year-shelf-life vintage 1970's video of Geddy, Alex & Neil cranking away in their Cannuckish studio, or that-chick-from-that-band-that-sang voices-carry goofing around with the boys.

Memorable Rush videos can be counted on one hand - The Pass is certainly one of them (at least I think it is - it's not on the DVD). Overall, Mystic Rhythms really stands out from the rest of this collection in terms of actually using the form of video for something more than "havin' a good time".

In any case, whether or not you've read this far, you're going to buy it, and despite having to cover your eyes for some of the goofier moments, you won't regret having it there for the occasional Rush video fix.

Summary: Excellent
Review: Great collection of videos, you can see how much the band progressed musically and soundwise, production got better as the years went by. Neil Peart is stunning to watch as his hands are a blur when drumming out such greats as "Lock and Key", "Closer to the Heart" etc.... I like the hidden video trick too, had to ask for help to find them. cute....

Summary: Nobody's Perfect....
Review: I got the VHS the minute it hit the store and being a huge fan for over 25 years, it was indeed a welcome surprise! Thought of as a near-perfect ensemble, you must remember these talented musicians, singers, and songwriters are... yes, human. Though it could be picked apart as not PERFECT, the only thing better than listening to Rush is to see the songs performed. They have so much material it's impossible to cram everything that each and every Rush fan would like to see and hear on one DVD (or VHS). Its like Geddy told the enthusiastic crowd when I saw them (7-1-02 in Charlotte), "We've got alot of material to cover tonight" So enjoy it, don't waste time picking it apart, their music is mind candy, treasure it.

Summary: Great DVD But It Is Missing Alot
Review: RUSH'S Chronicles is a great music video DVD. The only problem with this DVD is that it is missing alot of Rush videos. My favorite video on this disc is "THE BIG MONEY". Overall this DVD would be better if there was more videos.

Tracklist:
Closer To The Heart [Live 1977]
The Trees [Live 1978 or 1979]
Limelight [Studio Version]
Tom Sawyer [Studio Version]
Red Barchetta [E.S.L. Version]
Subdivisons
Distant Early Warning
Red Sector A
The Big Money [edit]
Mystic Rythms
Lock And Key

The Hidden Videos:
The Enemy Within
Afterimage

Summary: Rush DVD's
Review: Well, I own this DVD, and the video quality is almost the same as the VHS, but it's cool. However, I highly recommend you to wait, in this 2003 year, they said that they are releasing a LIVE DVD! Not the Exit... Stage Left DVD, nor the A Show of Hands DVD, nor the Grace Under Pressure, or th Different Stages DVD, they aren't expecting to release any of these videos. They are going to release the 'Rush in Rio DVD', recorded at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the last year. It's the largest concert that Rush has ever played. Also, it will include some Behind-The-Scenes footage, and it will be surely better that the Chronicles DVD...
