Summary: I wish I could have seen them live ....
Review: ... ESPECIALLY after seeing this DVD. An incredible performance. As Neal States late in the show, "Capturing a GREAT SHOW on Film - Imagine That !" While the first three tracks are wonderful, the last three is where the boys really start to rip it up. "Suite: Charlotte Pike" mixed with the Beatles "You Never Give Me Your Money" medley is simply amazing. "Stranger In Your Soul" reminds me a lot of the longer pieces on Spock's Beard's "Live In Holland" DVD. And then, for an encore, my all time fave 30 minute epic "All of the Above."
Simply Breathtaking. And then as a bonus, a second disc with backstage hijinks, a photo album, and a performance of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." What more could you want ? If you are a fan of Prog - BUY THIS DISC ! You will thank me.

Summary: What a way to go out!
Review: A great "final" performance for this super prog band. It's interesting that in the "documentary" they all hope to come back to Transatlantic in 3 or 4 years, in the light of Neal recently saying "I Quit!" to TA and his old group Spock's Beard. This set is leaps and bounds ahead of the Live in America set with a lot less Neal and Mike goofing on the mike...though surprisingly Pete takes the opportunity for that here (as well as taking the opportunity to show off some amazing vocals and bass work)! Roine is in great form and with Daniel helping them out, the vocal and arrangement depth is tremendous. To just think what this band could produce given proper studio and rehersal time! I say we start to really hound them in a year or two to get it back together for just one more time. Yes - only 6 songs - but heck it's 150 minutes of music!

The second disc contains some video footage of other shows, and to me, there's plenty of room on these discs to have included some of these "bootleg" style shows in their entirety as DVD extras. Mostly to make those shows available outside the bootleg market, but also because there wasn't any cost to including them. The hardcore fans of these guys wouldn't care about the warts and all aspect of the video.

The version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond from the NAMM show, to me, is getting close to what Roine talks about in the documentary about how he would like TA to be more dynamic and willing to improv. Shine On is a good ambient quiet to loud piece that allows for a lot of improv and movement and they do it well here. I can easily see them doing similar original pieces - so yes Roine, get the guys together and work on it! They use the NAMM version I'm sure because it's a good version while many of the versions they "romped" through on the tour were iffy at best...particulary the Tilberg performance.

The only "grievance", (besides their possibly never working together again) would be that they should have saved the Abbey Road material for the "encore" and performed it as a big rock show finish after having played all the more intense TA material previous. I can't believe Mike wanted them to play Heart of the Sunrise on top of everything else - that would have been KILLER!

Hopefully they got one more in them...can't some major label offer them like millions of dollars to continue working together? no? Ha! ;-)

Summary: EPIC OF EPICS.
Review: A little while ago I had to sell my house. The guys who bought it happened to plan to set up a recording studio. When I ask the "main man" what kind of music he played he explained to me that he is a Rock'n'Roll "guitar player". Then I told him that I am a Progressive Rock Fan. He simply replied:"...well...I'm not qualified to pretend to play Progressive...that's way too high for me..." I perfectly know what he means: Prog Music is complex and elaborated, and demands from Its performers skills, talent and creativity. So this is for the average Progressive musician "qualifications". Now imagine you assemble a band with some of the best progressive mussicians alive in the world and see them performing an all "Epics" session. That is the Band Of The Bands. Transatlantic is simply too good to be true. The thing is- unlike the ironies of life-: Transatlantic is true!!!. You watch the perfect and lush rendition of this great concert and you will probaly become too demaning as a listener of live performances. When are they going to come back touring America? I can not wait. Transatlantic is not the synthesis of great bands, but rather their consequence. The quality of the DVD?: Flawless. The only con is that it is not longer lasting.

Summary: Sublime!!!
Review: Being a Prog-Rock fan for 20 years I highly recommend this concert. The performance is perfect and inspirational, the magic touch that made Yes, Genesis, ELP and others what they were is really there. These guys really know what they're doing, they rock!!!!!
The only problem is that sometimes you get camera shots from Stolt's face while the action is in his guitar, but that doesn't matter because the music is sublime.
The sound is perfect to me and if you have a fine equipment then prepare to fly the Transatlantic Starship!!!

Summary: los 4 fabulosos

you crazy diamond interpretado en el NAMM show, fotos,
enfin, todo lo que un amante del progresivo puede
esperar.

Sin ser vidente ni, tener bola mágica me atrevo a
baticinar que este trabajo será seguramente el mejor
del año 2003 en la categoría de dvd.

Summary: not disappointed
Review: I have to admit after seeing and hearing "Spock's Beard" Live in Holland DVD, I was pretty skeptical about buying this, fearing it was going to disappoint me, quality wise in sound and video, but to my delight, thank you for the much deserved presentation of "THE" finest modern prog. band of the late 20th century. Sure it's not "Symphonic Yes", but if you're a true proglodyte, you're sure to rejoice from the 1st note to the last.
Only six songs, but true epics in every sense of the word, with
some favorite Beatles thrown in for spice(I didn't realize Mike Portnoy was such a fan).
Thanks Neal,Mike,Pete and Roine for a great run. And most of all this outstanding disc to remember you by.

Summary: THIS IS THE REDEFINITION OF WHAT TALENT IS
Review: Once in a while you come across bands that you just wish would have that "something" that would make the music and the mood just perfect. Well, the search stops here. This DVD is a masterpiece. I believe the magic that usually takes a while to happen on stage with your average band (if it happens) is a constant with Transatlantic. I believe Neal Morse has a deal with the stars, or God for that matter, not because he's super technical but because this human being plays for the song, not for the ego. I am a drummer and while I would naturally be inclined to dissect every single bit of what Portnoy does, listening and watching this DVD actually made me enjoy the music as something magic, because well, it is magic performed by all these guys. I trully believe that all Transatlantic members are superior human beings. The songs they perform give fuel to the soul, they lift the spirit. Not a lot of bands can do that. Do yourself a favor and buy this DVD. You will feel better and better every time you watch and listen to it.
