Summary: Inspiring and Heartbreaking
Review: I have loved the Carpenters music ever since I was about 7 years old ( which used to get me some strange looks in the playground) and I am now 19 and while I listen less as my tastes have expanded I still think of Karen as one of the greatest vocalists of all time and Richard one of the best arrangers.
It is inspiring that to people of all ages that 2 normal kids from Downey can achieve the success and reach the heights that they did.
However some videos can be harrowing and even heartbreaking to watch as Karen and Richard's personal demons take hold.
Richard was able to overcome his, but unfortunately fame for Karen came less easily and the price too high.
She is gone physically her spirit and soul live on through her brother and her voice.
Karen's star may have only shone briefly, but few have shone brighter and with more beauty.

Summary: My loved songs
Review: I love all songs in this DVD. But little disappointed, as it doesn't have "Yesterday Once More". Hope I can see that song in their next new DVD.

Summary: **sigh**
Review: I love the Carpenters, but unfortunately, this DVD wasn't what I thought it was. I assumed ... this was a full-fledged concert, but alas, it wasn't. The songs are wonderful, but honestly I was hoping for a live concert-that's my opinion-those of you who like full-fledged documentaries, more power to ya...

Summary: Great Overview
Review: I think this is a Nice Collection of Clips&whatnot of a Duo that really had a Impact on Pop Music.it reflects a time period vibe&Mood.it's cool to see Artists not effected by the whole MTV Concept.don't get me Wrong I Liked MTV back in the Mid 80's&what have you but it's cool to see a Act Uncut&just doing there thing.these songs are still Mellow&Cool to this day.

Summary: Associate Producer's response
Review: I was the associate producer of the original release of the Carpenters video originally titled "Yesterday Once More" and now "Gold".

It is a very long story how we got to the final release-no budget, we did not get paid for our work, busted are backs trying to locate all the clips and I wasnt even a Carpenters fan! But I immediately loved Karen's voice and it was great working with Richard. Super person and an incredible talent! I shortly thereafter split with my then partner Paul Surratt who was the producer of the video from our company, Research Video. I went back to my first love, bluegrass music and vintage Country-Rock (Gram Parsons, Clarence White). I am still proud of what we did, most of you have no idea the hell we went through with A&M just getting this done back then. Now that MCA/Universal owns it, it probably is even a more distant memory to everyone.

Enjoy anyway!

Summary: Could have been MUCH better
Review: I've aleady reviewed "Gold" earlier, so I am writing to all those people who asked for a "Carpenters, Live in Concert" DVD. According to the Grant Guerrero website; there is a "Carpenters, Live at Budokan, 1974" DVD concert. It was released in Japan in 2002. It has the same content as the previously released VHS tape, which many Carpenter fans already own. I am positive the sound and video have been upgraded to the DVD level. If you want to see this DVD, you either have to have an all-region DVD player, or a DVD player that will play Japan-coded DVDs. I sometimes wonder if A & M/Universal has any regard for the USA Carpenter fans. This is not fair.

Summary: "Yesterday Once More" VHS, (U.S.) on DVD
Review: In 1985, A & M released the first Carpenters all-music video collection: "Yesterday Once More" on VHS tape. Now, 17 years later, Universal has rereleased "YOM" on DVD, but, with the title "Gold". The audio and video parts are excellent! Karen and Richard look and sound awesome! It is a true upgrade to the DVD level. However, apart from 'song selection', there is no difference from the VHS tape! The DVD for "Close to You-Remembering the Carpenters" had a lot more extras than it's VHS release. The Japanese "YOM" DVD has the additional video; "I Need to Be in Love". Universal could have added the 6 extra videos from the 1995 VHS release: "Intrepretations". I do recommend "Gold". It has a much better quality than the "YOM" VHS release, and does not cost as much to buy it as the imports: the Japanese "YOM" DVD, and/or the 2000 Taiwan DVD-"Carpenters, A Video Biography Karaoke", (which doesn't look, or sound, much better than a VHS tape, and it has the words to the songs printed on the screen). Also, on the Taiwan DVD, 4 of the 21 videos have nothing in common with the songs being sung. I am disapointed that Universal named this DVD "Gold", instead of "Yesterday Once More",(which it is), and that it does not contain any more videos than the 1985 VHS release did.
