Rating: Summary: Almost Like Being There Again! Review: I had tickets for the New Orleans show before I knew they were coming to Memphis the very next night! What a great show! India.Arie really set the mood for us down in The Big Easy and when Sade and company hit the stage we were all spellbound. The DVD comes pretty close to capturing the concert experience and it's very hard to stop watching once you start. The sound quality is very good through my older system. I have noticed one problem though; my DVD player pauses briefly between "Redeye" and "Jezebel" (at 00:49:03 if I remember correctly). Has anyone else noticed this or is it just a case of my DVD player not making a layer transition very well? (Note: I've noticed this on two copies of this DVD - I returned my first one thinking it was defective.)
Rating: Summary: If you see the concert get this. Review: This is an excellent substitute for not actually seeing the concert. I would recommend purchasing, especially if you've already seen her live and want something to remember the experience by. It's also a nice addition to your Sade collection even if you have all the previous releases with the songs on them. The cinemetography could have been better in the shots of "Sade Walking", and "The Band Walking" extras. I was really disappointed in the advertised "FREE ART PRINT". I was expecting something suitable for framing, like a poster that could be folded out and framed in a poster frame but it's just a little cardboard insert tucked inside the left frontside of the dvd cover. Very disappointed!!!!!! However, the dvd content is excellent and I especially like the "king of sorrow" video. It really makes Sade seem real and down to earth. She does a good job in the video. I'm really surprised she hasn't tried her hand at an acting career. She is absolutely photogenic and a great look. Sade is a refreshing face with a different more ethnically diverse look than the typical hollywood starlet.
Rating: Summary: BETTER THE FIRST TIME Review: I recently ordered this DVD since I'm such a huge fan. I already own her earlier concert DVD and have to admit that I like the earlier one better. If you like to hear performers sound exactly the way they do on their CD releases, you'll love this. It seems she and her excellent band took more chances musically with their earlier DVD release. With the exception of the crowd noise, you could have taken the tracks on this DVD almost directly from the CD's. In seeing musicians perform a live concert, it is always exciting to see a band take chances with their own familiar work and add variations. Technically, this DVD is superior in production to the earlier releases but is lacking the emotional rawness of "SADE LIVE". In both cases, she exudes pure sensuality like no other performer out today (Britney doesn't even come close!!) Her band is top notch and shines in any performance. If you get the chance to see her live, she is definitely worth seeing. Please, SADE, don't make us wait another 9 years!!!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Performance SADE - Lovers Live DVD Review: The experience of listening to Sade in a live concerts propels you into another world where the emotional essence of love is created by Sade's Verisimilitude. The Lovers Live DVD captures the moment and makes a superior souvenir of the concert tour which I was fortunate enough to attend during the summer of 2001 in Virginia. During the bands musical solo they created a musical atmosphere of an exceptional romantic summers evening. Hoping to see her again in concert and again in DVD. Buy it!!! It is well worth the price and beyond a technical illusion.
Rating: Summary: Simply Sade Review: Lover's Live is an exceptional demonstration of the great talent of Sade and company. This DVD of the most recent tour in not like being there, but is a must have for Sade fans. There seems to have been a great deal of fan 'noise' removed that was on the Lover's Live CD, which made this more enjoyable to watch and listen to. This DVD is not loaded with powerhouse theatrics, nor is it a slick Hollywood production, but it is Simply Sade. A great buy!
Rating: Summary: The Rock Is Very Live Review: They pushed the release date of this DVD back a few times, but now it's out and it was worth the wait. The show is one of the best live shows there is, which is the reason to get this. You want to be able to pop straight to the songs you like in the future easily, and DVD was made for that. The extra features are cute, but not overwhelming: a photo gallery, some short backstage footage (but soundtracked with music, not real-time ambience or talking), the video for "King of Sorrow", 5:1 sound optional. Good stuff, but no reason to buy it over video except for the ability to dance around the show at will, which for me is enough. The intro menu is a bit slow because it's fancy and animated, but you won't be on it too often anyway.
Rating: Summary: If you're a Sade fan, you'll love this DVD Review: With regards to one of the earlier reviews, this DVD DOES have Dolby 5.1 sound. As for the concert, this is classic Sade. Her style and voice are so smooth, she compels you to want to listen more and more. At almost two hours, you definitely get your money's worth. Technically, I thought the camera work/lighting could have been better, but that's a relatively small point.
Rating: Summary: Smooth operator Review: A good, classy concert. Sade's looking good, though she does move about a bit stiffly and the make-up is...well, she can be forgiven for fighting that battle, and she was certainly shot as if the director was handed a list of proper angles from her publicist. But I can't complain. The video editing is occasionally bothersome: too many quick cuts for this kind of music, and not always in rhythm with the music. The lighting and cinematography are excellent and in keeping with the ambience Sade likes to create. Still, there isn't quite enough variety in the presentation to make this a video you'd feel bad about pausing while you get up for snacks or the restroom. I play it more often for the audio than the video. Speaking of which, the audio is great and the extended renditions are unique but still familiar. A previous reviewer mentioned lack of five-channel sound, which isn't the case with the DVD I got. Dolby Digital 5.1 is right there in the audio setup section--you've just got to turn it on.
Rating: Summary: Quintessential Sade Review: There is something about Sade that gives her the distinctive edge over other Divas. Her song soothes and relaxes but doesn't lull you to sleep; grabs you but doesn't overwhelm. It's subtle, sensual, and instinctive. When you are used to listening to Sade for years and see her live in this concert, the combined audio and visual effect is electric. The sweetest taboo, By Your side, No Ordinary Love, Is it a Crime are quintessentially Sade's - it's hard to imagine anybody else.
Rating: Summary: New DVD, Old Tech Review: What a Great concert, but only to take it back in Dolby time and put it on a DVD without Dolby 5.1 - - this should be illegal
