Rating: Summary: Sade Delivers Review: An AWESOME concert! Sade is beautiful and commands the viewer to watch every move she makes. Now I know why the audience on the live CD sounds like they're going crazy. TAKE A LOOK! There are wonderful DVD exclusives.-Backstage footage, a music video type documentary cut to a remix of "By Your Side". It's a real nice thing to see the band have unity & love beyond the stage. -Message to Sade, a real hilarious look at Sade fans directed by the Polish Brothers. Sade should come out more often. These people are NUTS! It's a great piece to have on a DVD because it shows how Sade affects her fans & how sincere her fans are. -B&W photographs, I wish there were more! They should have made a music video with these stills. -King of Sorrow Video, sexy-sexy-sexy. The best Sade video from Sophie Muller. This alone is worth the DVD. SADE LOVERS LIVE is a truly a wonderful DVD, Sade embraces her fans and delivers a concert of honesty and respect.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Despite the praise by other reviewers for this new Sade concert DVD, I found it disappointing, because the concert as filmed and performed here is neither emotionally captivating nor artistically and musically convincing. For a start, in some songs - e.g. the first and the last - Sade's lips are not in sync with her voice indicating that what you hear is not her live voice but a playback of it while she's mimicking her singing. With the exception of a few passages, when the musicians are given space to solo, the performances are too close to the CD versions of the songs, so they feel as if everybody is just doing their jobs. I found myself reaching for the remote control to skip to the next song after one or to minutes of almost each song. The underwhelming experience of the performances is in part also a result of production values that are definitively under par. True, a lot of concert DVDs offer even worse sound and picture, but that's no reason to let the producers and the media companies who want customers' money off the hook easily. In the case of Lovers Live drums and the usually pumping bass are o.k., but all other intruments either lack transparency or are - case in point: overdriven guitars - to loud. Compare the sound to The Band's remastered Last Waltz DVD or to Steely Dan's Two Against Nature DVD and you cannot be but disappointed. Both picture quality and directing are also rather bad. The color transfer on the DVD looks as if it was filmed through filters to reduce the color differentiation and the perspectives of the camera usually do not absorb you into the show. Worst are the frontal shots of the whole stage, which show you the light and photo show, but which put you into the distant position of an uninvolved observer. To sum up: It's better to listen to Sade's music on CD than to be disappointed by this DVD
Rating: Summary: Satisfactory Sade Review: The music of Sade deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Those who are looking for a great collection of Sade's music need look no further. As a DVD however, this disc leaves a little to be desired. First of all the concert was captured on film, which gives a nice cinematic feel... but this is not cinema, and ironically the choice to record the concert on film fails to capture the the immediacy and connection that an audience gets at a live performance. Colors are softer, and images are not as vibrant. High Def video would have been a better choice here. The 5.1 mix of the audio is also fairly bland, being not far removed from the 2.0 stereo mix. The tracks lack a certain clarity and crispness that DVD is capable of. The performance is, of course, spectacular, and it's a shame that it's transfer to DVD didn't see more care. The footage doesn't quite match up to the dramatic image on the front cover. I will "cherish the day" that a DVD will be produced worthy showcasing of Sade's breathtaking voice.
Rating: Summary: Just as I remember the concert! Review: My wife and I attended the concert in Dallas, and were blown away by the impressive sound and lighting effects, and of course seeing Sade live. The DVD is a have to have if you went to the concert, and a can't miss if you are a Sade fan. I rate the selection of songs and the video editing a 5 star. I agree with another reviewer that the surround sound was a little disappointing. I had to fiddle with my center and rear levels to get a decent balance. It does sound excellent in stereo, having watched and listened to it on my laptop, with Bose Noise Reduction headphones. I noticed reviewers of the CD were disappointed that some favorite songs are missing. They are on the DVD. So if you have a DVD player, for a few $'s more you get video and more songs.
Rating: Summary: The CD is what got me Review: Just like another poster after listening to the cd audience I wanted to see what they were so excited about. Again Sade shows and proves. I saw her live years ago and it was a terrific experience. I like this DVD better than the first one. Perhaps with age, birth of a child and wisdom, Sade is just mesmerizing. I wish I could be so smooth and move as gracefully as she does in daily life. Her dance movements are just so classy and elegant yet sexy as they come. Of course, Sweetback is outstanding as expected. This one should be in your collection. I am either watching it once a month and defintely keep the CD close by at all times.
Rating: Summary: Felt like I was there.... Review: Man, is she HOT?! She is everything sexy and sultry and classy...I love her and the DVD never leaves my player. A Loyal Female Fan
Rating: Summary: Cherish the concert Review: Sade is as enchanting as ever in this excellent follow-up to the first concert DVD ("Sade Live"). This performance, which was filmed in September of 2001 at two SoCal venues, proves that after eight years, the attraction of Sade herself is just as strong as her music. At just under two hours, you get a comprehensive show: 22 songs, with ten from the latest "Lovers Rock" CD. The remaining twelve are all favorite hits from Sade's previous four albums. Sound-wise, everything sounds great, and you can select from either stereo or 5.1 Surround Sound to suit your tastes. The band plays really tight, and there are some nice surprises, such as a cool intro to "Sweetest Taboo" and a funky/rock version of "Paradise" (check out the choreography). Visually, you see lots of Sade (a good thing), yet the camera time spent on her and the rest of the band is fairly balanced. I loved the editing since I was watching what I wanted to see pretty much most of the time. The lighting for this tour is somewhat more interesting than the last, and the use of the video screen in back of the stage adds some pizzazz, especially the film of water dropping in synch with key accented beats in "Somebody Already Broke My Heart." The camera work and editing are superb. Even the credit track is awesome, with some really touching footage of the audience. DVD Extras: 1) behind-the-scenes video (pretty funny) of the band members dancing and mugging for the camera; 2) Sade, behind-the-scenes; 3) concertgoers' "messages to Sade"; and 4) excellent "King of Sorrow" video, directed by Sophie Muller and filmed in Puerto Rico.
Rating: Summary: Worth getting, Sade's still stylish, classy and fun Review: Although I like her other 1994 DVD better, this one is also a must-get for Sade fans ... (hey she's older now, so that's why no bare midriff anymore I guess).. her voice, poise, charm, grace and singing voice are terrific as always, and the "Paradise" mix is one I watch over and again... Hearing the crowd chant "go Sade, go Sade" and her reaction is nice to watch ... it's definitely worth getting ... 8+/10 rating.
Rating: Summary: Smooth and Sensual Review: Sade is sexy as ever in this "live" concert performance! She does NOT have to be naked or dress like a street girl to be sexy. The concert may not have been explosive, but this is Sade we're talking about and not Britney Spears. Sade is smooth and sensual. She does not need fancy fireworks and special effects to put on a good show. "Sade - Lovers Live" is just what it needs to be... smooth, sensual and classy. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Sade is Awesome, DVD somewhat disappointing Review: Like some other people have mentioned, filmed concert footage lacks the "just like being there" feeling that video taped footage offers. The show itself is fabulous but I found the DVD technically falls short. The sound is "OK" but could be better. The real disappointment is that the whole production is out of sync (video and audio). Watch her lips and listen. The audio is about a half second out. Hello record company!! Have you ever heard of Timecode? Hey Sade!!, let me produce your next live DVD, I'll do it for free!
