Review: I recently got this video and if you want to see your TV light up get this tape.It is one of a kind, in that it strictly shows Dean in his early variety shows bouncing down the stairs, singing with Petula and Peggy Lee and being just one loveable human being.I wish some of the current singers would take some lessons from this guy but I really doubt he could be imitated. Loved "Blue Moon" especially when he mispronounces Whisper. What a talented man he was and all the went yo Jerry and Frank. That's Life!!

Review: If Dean Martin's voice isn't enough for your memories, watch this DVD, oooooooooh "Memories are Made of This". I was in my preteens when I would watch my mother swoon over this man as we sat in the livingroom on Thursday evenings. Oh the simple days. I purchased this DVD to bring back those memories of the simple, fun, carefree lifestyle. Unlike today which is now so polictically correct. Greg Garrison explains the various ways Dean comes down the staircase to the special friendship they had. My special highlight is when Dean is singing Moon River makes the mistake in the lyrics. I enjoy this DVD so much and will continue to add such to my future COPA room.

Review: No complaints about the content of this fun DVD-- for a younger fan like myself, I'd rather just see and hear Dino singing on his TV show anyway, instead of watching the skits and musical numbers of his many guests (though the infomercials for the overall highlights of his show can be enticing).
Nobody was as cool Dean Martin, and this DVD proves it. He goofs off a lot, messes up the lyrics from time to time, and facetiously (hey, let's not get political) applauds his own performance at the end of more than a few songs. The clips of his earlier performances, including "That's Amore" and "Memories Are Made of This," are wonderful as well.
Still, to do full justice to his great voice and singing ability, I'd go straight to the albums. "The Dean Martin TV Show" (coupled with "Dean Martin Sings Songs from 'The Silencers'") on the Collector's Choice release shows Dean's voice in finer form giving the definitive stamp to many of these numbers.
My one complaint is about the documentation: maybe "nothing could be finer than to be in Caroline in the morning" but I doubt Dean was singing that (though it wouldn't surprise me if he did at some point!). Do these people currently working at the multimedia giant corporations have any clue what they're doing? Anybody who knows anything about Dean's career knows it's "Carolina," not "Caroline." (But you should hear Dean's un-P.C. alteration of the lyric on a Rat Pack disc, before Frank sings, "Nothing's more unnerving than to wake up next to Irving.")

Summary: Dino at his best...
Review: Stunning stuff that makes you ache to see more of this series on dvd. Would be wonderful to see the series - or 'Best of...' given the same loving treatment lavished on the Judy Garland shows by Pioneer. The picture and sound in the Dino shows is poor in comparison to the 1963 Garland shows. However, Dino and the musical direction are superb. I love the simplicity of it all: all songs are delivered straight to camera in medium to full close-up, no cuts or irritating dancers. Nothing else is required with a performer of Dino's grace and naturalness.
Apart from a wonderful compilation, featuring mostly comedy and guest duets, that I saw on British TV in the late 70's, this is all I have ever seen of Dino's show and I just want to see MORE.
The dvd is only marred by the fact that songs are not individually chaptered so you get lost as you try to skip the rather too many and lengthy (for my taste) contributions from the producer/director. Having said that, he must have been a genius to have come up with a show of this quality.

Review: Thank God for well preserved color video tape because: This is it! This is (no pun intended) 100% proof distilled Dean Martin at his very best! No unnecessary comments or re-hashing of all too familiar bio information, just Dean, and some really interesting and insightful comments from his longtime director Greg Garrison. I may be biased, but I fail to see how anyone can NOT like Dean Martin after watching this tape. The man was a true original, and yes: a genius. Qualities rarely seen in this day and age of Show business. Anyone who thinks Dean "didn't care" should listen to his beautiful rendition of "I'm In The Mood For Love" or the honest "Pennies From Heaven", I love Sinatra too, but he could not have done these any better. It is a delight to watch how effortlessly he breezes through songs like "Somewhere There's a Someone" and "Houston" playing off of the energy generated by the audience and crew offstage, and to hear they way he blends his voice with Peggy Lee and Petula Clark; you'd think that they had been working together for years and years, and not just practiced for one afternoon!! The tape also contains a few clips of Dean appearing on the Colgate Comedy Hour, singing some of his greatest earlier hits. So run, don't walk, to your computers and buy this one! And don't buy just one, buy two or three copies; let's get those sales waaay up there, and maybe we'll see more of these fantastic performances (taken mostly from "The Dean Martin show") in the near future. And if this tape/DVD only wets your appetite, you should check out Lee Hale's great book "Backstage at the Dean Martin Show". Loaded with pictures (color and b/w) and year-by-year anecdotes, it's the perfect companion to this brilliant tape.

Summary: PLEASANT BUT FAR FROM COMPLETE
Review: The best footage of this document ,that is certainly not a complete documentary on DEAN ,are the black and white clips of the singer who sings THAT'S AMORE,OH MARIE and MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS ,and the duets with PETULA CLARK and PEGGY LEE.Mostly,this is a reminicence of the 60's show commented by the producer, who obviously had a great relationship with DEAN.Don't look for clips of the movies with JERRY LEWIS or the films he made with SINATRA.There's nothing about the RAT PACK or LAS VEGAS. Very little also about his humble beginnings in showbussiness,before the radio show and the signature with CAPITOL records.One of the best moment has DEAN missing a lyric while singing BLUE MOON.So ,this is a pleasant affair,but if you are looking for a complete biography ,you are bound to be disapointed.

Review: The moon will hit your eye like a big pizza pie when you see this video. This DVD is well worth the price and hopefully there will be more on the way. There are clips from the TV show and also some from nightclub appearances. In a Dino collection it is essential!
