Summary: The best!
Review: If you like Jane Monheit CDs, buy this, it's better.

If you've been to see Jane's live shows, buy this, it's better.

Not only is she in one of the nicest venues in the country, the Rainbow Room, not only is she in very fine form physically and musically -- but she has wonderful accompaniment. Actually one of my favorite moments on this DVD is a killer bass solo by Ron Carter. And the accompaniment shifts from band to guitar solo to piano to band, as the music demands.

This thing has TWENTY different songs on it, and she nails every one of them. Even if you are just curious about who this Jane Monheit person is, buy this DVD. You will love it.

Summary: East Coaster
Review: It might be of interest to Las Vegas reviewer, that Jane Monheit has the same manager that once was Diana Krall's. She has been accompanied by Ron Carter and Alan Broadbent on several occassions in swank caberet rooms in New York City. Vince Mendoza and Alan Broadbent did some of the arrangements on the DVD as well as on her cd's. A reviewer should peruse facts, before giving a scathing review. Get this DVD. It has fine performance and quality musicians as well as good choice of material.By the way, I understand that Ms.Monheit graduated from one of the countries most prestigious music schools, and at the top of her class!!

Summary: A females point of view...
Review: It seems to me that most of these reviews are written by men obsessed with Monheit's beauty. Yes she's the most gorgeous thing in the music industry today, but let's look past that. Jane Monheit has one of the prettiest voices of today, although she has no competitors, Diana Krall is more of a pianist and a lounge singer, so you can't count her. Norah Jones is a folk singer, so you can't count her either, so Monheit is the only singer who soley sings jazz standards, with a huge powerful and emotional voice, and yes she happens to be every man's fantasy too, so what, let's give her the aknowledgemt she deserves for being the best singer on the planet. As far as this dvd goes, it is full of standards, with a fine jazz accompiment, yet as many other reviewers have mantioned the strings weigh things down a bit, as do the "non" standard material that sounds like it was written for some middle of the road pop singer like andy Williams or Barbra Streisand. Overall this is a nice dvd, and monheit is the next Peggy Lee, or Rosemary Clooney(unlike the greedy Bette Midler, Monheit actually is worthy of doing a Rosemary Clooney tribute album). Take my advice as a female, men you'll love this, women if you can get past your shameful jelousy you should also get this dvd, casue jane really can sing beuatifully.

Review: Jane Hernandez, above, needs to hear Stacey Kent. Jane is great, but Stacey is better still: older by a decade or so, wiser, more of a musician, much more of a jazz musician that Jane. Enjoy this, but enjoy one of Kent's six albums even more.

Summary: not quite the real thing
Review: jane is quite good but for me she's missing something critical. for me she's not really telling the story on the songs, she's simply singing them....hard for me to believe Jane Monheit in these songs. One of the reasons Krall is so great is that she is believeable - Krall's melancholy and sadness feels 100% real. Jane just probably needs to live her a life a while longer.....

Summary: she should sing country
Review: Jane Monheit does not have the energy, the skill to sing Jazz. I am convinced she can be star in the country music scene with some decent songs, but Jazz is not for her. Her voice does not have the punch, the power or the color that requires in this business. Some reviewers talked about her beauty. She is wearing a long red dress that goes well with the music and the only beautiful part available to your eyes is her face. Get an R rated movie of your favorite actress if that's what you want. A dull concert. I will not be viewing it again.

Summary: A classy effort form one of New York's finest class divas
Review: Jane monheit has been wowing audiences for years in NY & LA, she's been a best kept secret till now. Lucky for you, she's captured here on this incredible DVD. Although she sounds better in intimate swinging settings(like on Mark O'Conner's swing CD), this DVD features her on mostly veteran standards, which are the highlights, ast he rest is mostly cheese. Still this dvd is well worth owning by those of us with class and sophisication. Manhiet has a rich velvety voice much like Kay Starr's but the a touch of annie Ross & Peggy Lee(yet she always manages to sound like herself). She's got it all looks, stage presance, professionalism, loads of sex appeal, and lot's of chops(her voice is like Frances Langford, or Sarah Vaughan, range wise anyway). Just buy it you'll love it, because I'm sure if your reading this review, you've got class, and love jazz. Swing dancers wil lappreciate Monheit, because she really is a swing singer, and never misses a beat. You can tell her musicians really respect and look up to her as a laeder. This dvd will make you flip, flop & fly...

Summary: Give me strength . . .
Review: Jane Monheit has no business whatsoever interpreting songs for which she is completely inadequate to interpret. She is the exact opposite of Billie Holiday - a voice that is entirely unearned. There is no life behind her voice, no understanding of the feeling behind the lyrics. She sounds like some girlscout auditioning for an Iowa High School Talent Show.

Summary: "A Star is Born"
Review: Jane Monheit is a rising star in the world of jazz. Her voice, presence, and choice of materials show a maturity beyond her 24 years.

This DVD is a wonderful vehicle to showcase Monheit's incredible talent.

I enjoyed the whole experience-I felt like I was at the Rainbow Room in my pajamas!

I recommend this product!

Summary: A simply stunning DVD, by a stunning young lady
Review: Jane Monheit is a wonderful singer who fits perfectly in the retro 1950's pop standards period. From the way she dresses and moves on stage, it brings back the glamour of an era gone by. It's like going back in time and seeing a singer like Ginny Simms, or Annie Ross(back when women were not just great singers, but were pretty and curvy too). This dvd captures that, and Monheit is a wondeful singer with a hugr range, who's timing and pitch are absolutely perfect. Although Monheit might be closer to a pop singer like Eydie Gorme, rather than a true jazz singer like Anita O'Day, but that doesn't matter, she swings and with feeling. This dvd will be sufficient to anyone who enjoys the classic Ella Fitzgerlad verve songbooks, as well as those who like classic pop singer liek Tony Bennett, and Peggy Lee, who were jazz influenced singers, like Monheit. A great dvd release, however the srings wear it down a bit, but Monheits looks & vocals can make one overlook such things. Just buy it!
