Review: You either love Shania or are completely apathetic. No? Of course this is not high art but it is populist entertainment of the highest calibre. The reason this will sell so well is that her fans obviously connect with her songs, the crack band seemingly enjoys playing them and Shania is both lovely and personable. For example, Shania allows a guy to propose to his girl on stage (she accepts!) as well as going out into the crowd (at one point allowing a young lady to sing the next line, which she nails on key, no less!) Not many artists work as hard to break down the barrier that usually exists between fan and artist. The setlist is exactly what you would expect of a two hour show drawn from a catalogue of four albums. All the hits, in other words, and a few choice album cuts.
Production wise, not many artists have a show filmed for a national network with all the expertise that goes with that. All of the NBC special is here plus more of what wasn't aired. The camera work and editing is as good as I have seen in the DVD format. I'm somewhat surprised that this wasn't mixed down to DTS 5.1 but the Dolby 5.1 is fine and clear. All in all, a great package for the Shania lover in your life at a fair price. Enjoy !
