Summary: U2 - Elevation Tour 2001- Live from Boston
Review: More proof that U2 is the greatest rock band in the world (yes, even greater than the Stones). If you have had a chance to ever see U2 live, this will bring back the memories of what you love about their live performances. If you have not ever had the chance to catch them on tour, this will likely motivate you to do so on their next tour. The elevation tour had a more intimate feel than their tours of late (Popmart, ZooTV). The track list on this show is missing a couple of their classic tunes (New Years day, One, Mysterious Ways), but when a band has written so many classic songs, it simply is impossible for them to include all of their great songs on every tour. The track list chosen here works perfectly to achieve the mood that the band wanted to share with their fans this go around. My recomendation, DO NOT wait until this is available to rent, just go spend the [money]... and add this to your collection. It is a must have addition to your DVD / concert library

Review: A few days I bougth the dvd and I have to tell all the peopl that is reading this, that you have to buy this dvd, it's just an excellent concert.I will say this is a "must see DVD" of the next beatles..
In a few years I believe U2 will be the new best rock band of the history.

Summary: Totally amazing...
Review: Overall, this DVD is absolutely awesome and is surely one of the best concert DVDs out there. If you are a U2 fan [and if you're not, you should be - just kidding] or even if you are just a fan of great music in general, this DVD is a must-have! Admittedly, compared to some of their other tours, the Elevation tour is a bit scaled back in some respects. In my opinion, however, the music itself can really stand alone, especially given that U2 gives every song 110% effort! In fact, I'd even venture to say that some of the previous concerts were a bit excessive at times. So, the only things that I felt could have used improvement in this DVD are rather minor. One is I felt the camera was a little too jumpy. Others have also commented that the director spent too much time focused on Bono, but I didn't really mind that as he was very entertaining to watch. Still, a few more shots of Edge during the guitar solos might have been nice. Additionally, the special features really weren't that fantastic - but hey, the concert was so great I didn't care that much about that either. A last warning is that (especially for devoted U2 listeners) in some songs Bono's voice didn't sound as good as it has in the past. I understand he was sick a few concerts before it (he mentions something about it at one point), and it's obviously not his fault, but it's always a little painful to see him struggle with songs he used to have no problem with. Anyhow, regardless of those pretty minor details, THIS IS A FANTASTIC CONCERT! Honestly. I try not to give completely rave reviews like this, but this DVD deserves it, and so does U2 for putting on such a great show. I've seen it several times through by now, it's really worth the money. Highlights include Elevation, Where the Streets Have No Name, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Kite (really sounds better live, very emotional) and Walk On (nice closing song). So buy this DVD. Trust me. You won't regret it!

Summary: Simply Stunning!
Review: I bought this DVD because I wanted to add it to my U2 collection, & it has been in constant rotation in my player ever since. It's pure entertainment from the 1st lick of Elevation, to the winding down of Walk On. Having seen the Elevation Tour twice (1st & 3rd legs in Chicago)I can say honestly it makes you feel like you are there all over again (or for the 1st time), the direction of the DVD is amazing, you can actually sense the intimacy & energy of the show.

Summary: Disappointing - PLEASE READ
Review: First of all, for those of you who don't know - this show is PRE-9/11!!!!! I had seen both shows and the post 9/11 shows were absolutely amazing...I can't even describe the emotions going through the audience. Most people were in tears during certain songs i.e. "One". So it was very disappointing to me when I saw this DVD and found that it was made before 9/11 - the difference between the shows are HUGE. Furthermore, this dvd doesn't even HAVE the song "One" on it. I am a U2 fan, and for most fans this dvd probably would be great. But after seeing this concert after 9/11 - I know how much more they are capable of live and this dvd just doesn't compare.

Summary: Great DVD, a must buy for any U2 fan!!!
Review: This was a great concert DVD. I only wish they used the shows post 9/11 for the DVD. I went to the shows pre 9/11 San Diego and Anaheim and Post 9/11 2 shows in Los Angeles and thought the earlier shows were awesome. But nothing could reach the sheer emotions of the post 9/11 shows. Most the songs took on a different meaning after the tragic events. I remeber having tears in my eyes during many songs. Plus in the post 9/11 days Bono's father had passed on, another emotional time when Bono would introduce Kite which was wrote about his father. But regardless this DVD is a must buy, I admit some of the editing left out some great songs and the ability to have subtitles would have been a nice. But overall worth every penny. Lets hope they release a full DVD of the Slane concerts, oh and a DVD version of the Pop Mart video would be awesome. Oh and throw in a DVD of the Sydney concert while your at it. Cheers! U2BassACe

Summary: Save your money, buy an audio CD
Review: As a video producer and director for the past 16 years I know a bit about the process of putting a concert film together. If you are looking for a concert film that will "put you in the audience" to see and hear an exciting and enjoyable show, this is NOT the DVD for you. If you are into popping a few "speed" pills, cranking up the volume, and listening and not really seeing what is going on, then this IS the DVD for you.
The concert footage is a highly jumbled series of jump cuts, of less than a second in duration. Most of the cuts are in the half a second (or ten to fifteen video frame) range, so you don't have time for an image to register in your head. Imagine blinking your eyes and turning your head every half second. Plus, every shot is either a "shaky cam" shot or "out of focus" shot. The viewer basically has no chance to focus their attention on anything. For me, it is totally unwatchable. I have to close my eyes and just listen to the music.
I've seen this type of editing by directors who really don't have a clue as to how to capture an event. If a high tempo song is on the set list, they get excited and start calling camera takes in time to every quarter note. These sort of directors have a grand old time barking out camera changes, just because they get caught up in a band. But, they aren't in the band. How these idots get hired is all political bull. Like I say, these kinds of directors have a great time, but produce unwatchable garbage.
But, U2 is a great band. And most of their fans will probably like this DVD. But, if you're into "watching" a band and seeing how they play their instruments, how they interact with each other, and how the audience interacts with them, then this is not the concert DVD for you.

Summary: Absolutely great
Review: I missed U2's Elevation tour, not once but TWICE (thank you, work), but this DVD is the next best thing to being there. The Boston show was a true work of art and the band never sounded better, either live or on a studio album. Every time I watch this concert, I just feel better about life in general - and isn't that what U2 and rock music are all about? There's real joy in Bono's singing and in Edge's guitar work; the audience feels it, and we feel it at home. As for the DVD presentation - magnificent. This is a MUST OWN for U2 and DVD fans. I'm stopping just shy of 5 stars because I understand the DVD does not contain "One" and "Mysterious Ways" - why, I don't know. Best performances: "Where the Streets Have No Name," "Bad," "Beautiful Day," and the thrilling "Until the End of the World." Want to know why U2 is so great? Watch this DVD and your questions will be answered.

Summary: A great 5.1 showpiece
Review: A great high-energy performance by U2 during their "Elevation" tour in 2001. The band is in high gear during this performance, and they don't miss a beat. The presentation is great on this DVD - great visual effects, sweeping boom-camera movements. But the real centerpiece of this DVD is the Dolby soundtrack. You must have full 5.1 surround to do this DVD justice... A decent surround setup totally immerses you in the show; it almost makes you feel like you're at the Fleet Center listening to U2 live. The audio mix is top notch. The DVD also has some pretty cool extras, such as multi-angle, a making of documentary, and some additional tracks. I just wish it had some music videos... If you like U2, this DVD is a winner.

Summary: Great Concert, Great DVD, Extras a little dissapointing
Review: U2 is one of the best bands in the world. They have a 20 plus year career with countless hits all over the world and this DVD captures the group at their best. The concert itself is magnificent. Seeing the tour live and then watching the DVD gave me goosebumps all over again. The picture is crystal clear and the sound is amazing. If you are looking for something special in the extras you may be dissapointed. Being a big U2 fan I was excited to see the some footage of other tours were going to be on the DVD, but when I went to view them it was only a 30 second clip not even a full song. This DVD is still well worth getting and I highly recomend it.
