Summary: Best band of the 90's
Review: This was a great DVD. I have watched it several times, and still enjoy it. Layne's voice wasn't nearly as powerful as it once was, but it fits the show perfectly. It's great to hear him belt out "Would?" and "Rooster." "Down in a hole," in my opinion, was the best song mainly because of Layne and Jerry's voices feeding off one another so harmoniously. It's unfortunate what happened to the band in the years following this performance, but at least we got the performance?? I also recommend the Music Bank DVD...it was put together nicely.

AIC Unplugged - Simply a must have for any Alice in Chains fan...

Summary: a final farewell
Review: wheni first viewed this dvd, it was a while after they performed the show, yet it was still before staley's death. you can feel the raw emotions, and the absolute power of the music. it seems as if this was a suicide not beutifully writen. from nutshell, too highlights like heaven besdie you, this dvd was amazing, the clarity was great, and the sound was amazing. they even threw inn some pretty cool riffs, in between songs, like inez playing the intro too enter sandman..."friends dont let friends get bad haircuts" i think thats what it aid on his bassl, however this will tide me over until ntv releases pearljam and nirvanas unpluged sets.....grunge lives!!!!!

Summary: Great to listen to, not too great to watch
Review: The music is amazing! The sound and video are excellent! But it is not a great performance. Layne Staley hardly moved on his stool while singing. So, if you're not an absolute fan of the band, then you might regret buying it.

Summary: Unplugged is Awesome
Review: It's great to see a band like Alice In Chains toned down for an Unplugged set. The only thing I would have added to make it better was if they would have played Rotten Apple, that song was amazing. But what's even more amazing is watching the emotion Layne Staley is putting into Sludge Factory (once he remembers the lyrics) and Frogs. Now all I'm waiting for is the Nirvana show to be released so I can actually compare the complete shows.

Summary: My favorite DVD of all time....
Review: I absolutely adore this dvd! I can't say enough wonderful things about it. Its great to see Layne smile and laugh when he actually messes up during "Sludge Factory." The atmosphere MTV set up for this installment of the "Unplugged" series is amazing, and definitely supplements Layne's beautiful voice. Layne and Jerry have never sounded better together. I watch this dvd at least once a week, and oftentimes fight my urge to cry. Rest in peace, dear Layne. You are gone, but definitely not forgotten!

Summary: Amazing. Just amazing.
Review: If you're an Alice In Chains fan this is a must have for your collection (even if it is only VHS).

I love the CD, I love the band, I loved the video. It has more cuts and "second takes" that you don't hear on the CD (since its edited to be near perfect).

If anything, it will let you see Layne Staley's last great performance before his untimely death.

Summary: Most underrated Band Ever...
Review: This DVD is simply the Best! I watch it once a week at least. If you are a fan of AIC/Mad Season or a Grunge (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) fan this is a MUST own. The people who where there live to see this show have a great memory that should last a life time. They start off with the song "Nutshell" and play all their top songs along with many songs that lesser fans may not know as well. They end with a song they wrote the words to right before the show called "Killer is Me". The lyrics are deep the melody is haunting which makes for a killer combo. Lanyes voice was fantastic, and the DVD even has some funny parts when Layne sings the wrong verse to "Sludge Factory", or when Jerry ad libs some country lyrics. This is a Great DVD! RIP LAYNE.

Summary: Good Seattle band.... Talented... i like the vocals
Review: Im not a real big AIC fan. Regardless, this dvd is pretty good. These guys are ok but i prefer Nirvana and PJ and i think AIC will never be placed alongside these greats.. sorry guys!

Summary: Jerry's fret buzz is made even MORE audible:
Review: It begs the question: Who was more ...up at the time of this otherwise brilliant Alice In Chains swansong performance; the late Layne Staley for being smacked out of his face or Jerry Cantrell, for allowing this one-of-a-kind live show to be performed (and recorded) with a guitar in desperate need of a truss rod adjustment?
>
It's true, this was arguably the greatest single performance "MTV: Unplugged" ever staged, and the DVD captures it that much more brilliantly than the VHS or CD versions of the show could ever hope to...but Cantrell never should've been allowed to take the stage with that guitar. It becomes evident early on that it has a problem, and nothing is done to correct it. Unfortunate, really, because the acoustic arrangements of all songs included in the show are fantastic, even those that you'd never suspect could be arranged in such a way ("Would?" and "Sludge Factory" being prime examples).
>
Layne Staley's vocal performance is actually quite good, not so weakened by heroin as to deprive his voice of all its strength, but sufficiently enough to add an extra level of pain to the anguished lyrics that were surely more personal to him than anyone else. He and Cantrell harmonize beautifully and reconfirm Alice's position as the best vocally-represented band from the old "Seattle Scene". But Cantrell's guitar just wrecks the performance for me, hence the mediocre review of an overwise unbelievable performance by one of my favorite bands of all time. If you want a good collection of acoustic music from this band, my recommendations are to try "Sap" or "Jar Of Flies" on CD instead; if you want a great live acoustic set, well, unfortunately there aren't many (any?) alternatives to this one from which you can choose.

Summary: This is a Keeper!
Review: Like Alice in Chains? Buy it! A fan of Layne or Jerry? Buy it! Never heard AIC music but liked the "Seatle Sound" of the 90's? Definitely buy this DVD! This is something that I will watch again and again 'till the day I die.

Thanks, Alice in Chains, for letting this work be done!
