Summary: GENESIS IS GREAT BUT PETER GABRIEL IS GOD
Review: Anyone one who has been to a Gabriel show has had this religious experience. This one is no different. But why isn't God on DVD? And where is P.O.V. on DVD? Doesn't make much sense. Come on, Peter, you know what your fans think of you. You need to think of them. After all you only come around LIVE about every tens years. What are we to do in the interim? But who am I to question God?

Buy this one. It's the next best thing to being there.

Summary: Ultimate Live Experience
Review: I was forunate enough to see a show on this tour which I thought was the best Gabriel tour yet. This video documents it excellently. Peter Gabriel concerts are always riveting but on this tour he had many more tricks in his bag of goodies. His ability to involve his audience in the each songs story is uncanny. He runs the gamut of emotions in this set. Special credit goes to every member in the band. They help to propel the songs' intensities while each revealing a little bit of their own personality. It was easy to tell from Paula Cole's singing that she was destined for stardom. This tour was way ahead of it's time and sets the bar very high for any theatrically inclined singer or band.

Summary: The Best Concert Video Available Is Not On DVD
Review: I have a lot of music videos on DVD but none compare to Secret World Live. I attended this concert when it was in my town and the video truly captures the experience. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I have also seen it on Laser Disk. It was awsome. Will the DVD version ever be released? It doesn't make sense that it's not out in this format. Please let the world know when the DVD will be available.

Summary: Unbelievable ! You will see it IN YOUR EYES !!
Review: WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH to say that this is one of the best VHS ever done !!.

This is not a concert, or a meeting or a theatrical presentation, this is a CONCEPT.

A concept of LIFE, a concept of someone who is really conected with true feelings and who is capable to show them to the world with an incredible music and lyrics.

Obviously he is not alone, the proffessional musicians are realLy incredible and you can notice that they're sharing the same mood on stage, which is giving their best of a unique mixture of music, all connected in one voice.

Paula Cole is amazing, from the beginning in Come talk to me, until the end with In your Eyes.

Manu, as usual is one of the best drummers in the world, and you can see it in every song.

The bass of Tony is such great, that you can discover the melodies that he does which really hug the main one.

Rhodes gives an excellent prove that being a guitar player is not just to enter a hundred notes in a second, but having a great taste of time and rythm.

All this band, surrounded by a remarkable public in Modena, Italy and a selected group of african dancers, make this video a truly unique experience for the person who watches it for the first time.

I am really looking forward for the realise on dvd format, not only this video but also PULSE(Pink Floyd), ON THE NIGHT(Dire Straits), SUPERTRAMP(Paris)and The Delicate Sound of Thunder (Pink Floyd).

Don't doubt it !! It's a must !!

Summary: Unbelievable ! Don't give up Peter !!
Review: Sometimes, you expect that artists like this one can't do anything below their level... well, my dear friends, this so far one of the best performances I've ever seen.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: This is the most awesome concert video I have ever seen. No matter my mood, or how tired I am, if I (or anyone) puts this concert on, it lifts my spirits - and my feet:) I can't sit down during lots of it. It is emotional, fun, uplifting and entertaining all in one. Peter and Paula - WOW!
The only other concert that comes close is Pink Floyd - Pulse.
Can't wait for them both to be out on DVD!

Summary: Where is the DVD?
Review: Three stars even though I know that this would be a great video from listening to the CD. My problem is that I will not buy a VHS any more. I want to buy this video. I want to buy it on DVD format. Royalties, liabilities, contracts, etc all likely conspire to prevent release on DVD. I find it hard to imagine that Peter Gabriel (or David Gilmore of Pink Floyd's Pulse and DST) really would want to handicap their income by not releasing their work in a modern format. Peter? David? Is there anybody out there? Release your work on DVD and have more income.

Summary: A RETURN TO HIS FLASHY ROOTS...THAT'S A GOOD THING...
Review: Peter Gabriel spent many years developing a sound an onstage presence that was far removed from the sound and look of 70's Genesis. Gone were the costumes and wires making him fly. His shows were powerfull and he let the dramatics come through with little more than his body movements, an occasional painted face and some interesting lighting. His performances were far more intimate than his former bandmates. He was trusting enough to surf the crowd long before Eddie Vedder was old enough to drive.

On this tour, Gabriel felt secure enough to revisit some of the more outright theatrics that began his career with Genesis.
The result was one of the finest combinations of great music and showmanship to ever grace a stage. I've read reviews of the CD and there are some who make comments to the effect of "Well, I guess you had to be there". To those I say buy this VHS, see it on a good set with good speakers.

His band is exceptional as always, but larger. The sound is incredible and Gabriel's trademark plaintive rasp has never sounded better. The theatrics and special effects enhance, instead of detract.
Even if you're not a real big fan of his, you can't deny what a perfect performance is contained here.

Summary: The best concert video ever
Review: I saw this concert tour in 4 cities - Oakland, LA, Sacramento and San Diego, front row in each. I have this show on Laserdisc, and am waiting for a DVD version hopefully. Does an excellent job of capturing the experience of the show. This show was designed by Quebec's theater director Robert Lepage, so it is more than the typical rock show. If you don't know Peter Gabriel's music, this will give you a great exposure.

Highly recommended

Summary: A concert larger than life: keeping the Gabriel flame burnin
Review: Back in 1993, the world tour following the release of the long-awaited "US" album by Peter Gabriel came in three different 'flavors' (just like with Pizzas): Large, Medium and Small. The small flavor would occur in places where Peter and his band would happen to play some of the songs from the track list, with any available instruments. The medium flavor would be like concert I had the opportunity of seeing in my home country (Venezuela): the band with their own instruments, playing the entire set, and using some of the visual effects that the larger production boasted (I have to say this 'mid-sized' version of the concert almost got me killed of a heart-attack -I'm not joking- due to all the emotions I experienced throughout it). The large 'flavor' was the one most northern hemisphere countries had a chance to enjoy, and what ended up registered in the video and the live album you're reading about here.

The band lineup is just as good as the one in Peter's previous live album 'Plays Live.' The drums, previously played by Jerry Marotta, are played by Mounsieur Manu Katche (also played with Sting, Eric Clapton and others); Jean Claude Naimro took the place of David Sancious (from the live So period); David Rhodes, Tony Levin, and -of course- PG were still part of the line-up; and Paula Cole (now famous for her albums Harbinger, This Fire and Amen) did beautiful backing vocals.

Particularly amazing are: the opening 'Come Talk to Me,' a true display of musicianship meant to get the crowd off their feet; the visuals of 'Accross the River,' 'Steam,' and 'Digging in the Dirt;' the sinplicity and beauty of the rendition of 'Red Rain' and the musical strength of 'Secret World' and 'In your Eyes,' bound for making the hairs in the back of your neck stand up.

Whether you've been following Peter Gabriel for his theatricals (when performing), his lyrics, his music, or a combination of all of the above, this concert simply belongs in your collection; no questions asked. Once you have it, you'll thank yourself for getting it!
