Summary: "Duran Duran: The Greatest" Delivers as Promised
Review: First off, there are some who will balk at this collection of videos, wondering where their other favorites are. These individuals will undoubtedly be disappointed with "Greatest" as they feel a need for an overly comprehensive (read: exhaustive) look into the highs and lows that were Duran Duran videos.

As the title implies, this DVD is about one thing and one thing only: their greatest video hits. And to that end, this does not disappoint by any means. All cuts are chronological and have superb sound and are visually appealing. From the somewhat campy song that paid homage to the source of their monniker ("Electric Barbarella") to the manic, fast-paced, equally campy "Hungry like the Wolf," "Greatest" gives us Duran Duran at their best. Whether dressed for success in the decade of excess or playing it low-key like lounge singers ("Come Undone"), this collection will bring back the memories of a band that had--and has--more potential than most realize.

Filled with hidden alternate versions of videos--"Planet Earth," "Girls on Film," "Union of the Snake," "New Moon on Monday," "Wild Boys," "Serious," and "Come Undone"--as well as interview footage and still galleries, "Greatest" celebrates a band whose legacy is as far-reaching as ever. Well-deserving of its title, this is truly a wonderful own for a hard-core Duran Duran fan or even the casual listener, and it will please both naysayers and anyone who truly appreciates well-crafted, original videos and thought-provoking, memorable music.

Summary: DVD could have been so much more...
Review: Call me unhelpful if you must, but you know this DVD is terrible. The videos are, of course, the greatest. But the packaging sucks, the interface is terrible and so many excellent videos were left off it is painful.

But, like I said, this is a collection of many of the best music videos ever made, so it'd be a crime not to own it.

Can't wait to get Arena on DVD too!

Summary: Don't judge a DVD buy it's cover!
Review: I LOVE this DVD. I'm glad it's FINALLY here. I would give the artwork at least 3 stars, but I'm not buying the DVD for its COVER! I'm sure the Sing Blue Silver and Arena DVD's, both coming out in May, will make up for the lackluster artwork and missing booklets of this one. Actually, in the PC portion of Greatest, DD fans can hear audio interviews, download screensavers, and view rare pictures of the band.

I have to admit navigating was tricky at first, but I was able to watch ALL the hidden footage. Le Gallerie de DD ALONE is sooo cool. The gallery showcases the band's full-length album and single covers. Just go to DD's website at www.duranduran.com. Fans will find a step by step explanation on how to access the hidden alternates, featurettes, interviews, promos, etc. Click on the FanForums link and the information is under Ask Katy. All comments and questions are dated. I found the information in a November or in a December letter.

I also bought mine (used, but in mint condition) at a record store for a cheaper price, like $17.00. I waited until Christmas and found a bargain! The DVD would have been worth it, though, if I had bought it at $30.00!

Finally, it's not impossible to buy the rare and less played DD music videos (early and current) on VHS. Hope to see them ALL on DVD someday.

Greatest is meant to illustrate ONLY their BEST. For example, 'Is There Something I Should Know' and 'Ordinary World' are GREAT because of their innovation, sophistication, style, imagery, and uniqueness. Furthemore, it's wonderful to see how the band has evolved over the past 25 years.

My ONLY critique as far as the content is concerned is the Chauffeur. Such a beautiful song, too. This video is my least favorite. Rating: 3 stars. I don't understand why the band is not in it?! Mmm... maybe I should Ask Katy? Shooting the video in black and white is a nice contrast between lightness and darkness, though.

Overall, the content and quality of the videos on DD's Greatest DVD are worth 5 stars.

Summary: Duran Duran on Film.
Review: Like Michael Jackson and Madonna, Duran Duran benefited from MTV as much as MTV benefited from them. In the 1980s, they were the premier video band, specializing in high concept music clips that represented the excess and decadence of that decade. By today's standards, many of their videos may seem cheesy and dated, but they brilliantly captured the essence of Duran Duran and the new romantic movement to which they belonged. Finally, the videos of their hits are compiled on this DVD, and it's already getting complaints from many fans. To them, I say: CALM DOWN. Of course, it'd be great to have a DVD featuring ALL of their music videos, but that wasn't the intent or concept behind "Greatest." Capitol/EMI wanted to do a "Greatest" DVD collection with the same tracklisting of the "Greatest" CD (with two exceptions: this collection has a video to "The Chauffeur" and "Burning the Ground," which are not featured on the CD). Fans have also complained that the hidden bonus features are very difficult to access, and they're right. I spent several minutes clicking my remote to navigate my way towards certain interviews and extended videos and ended up quite frustrated. However, if you go to the band's official website and go to the "Ask Katy" section, you'll find a list of helpful tips to get to the bonus features. Trust me, it's easier than you think. Some of the hidden features include an 18 minute version of "New Moon on Monday," an extended version of "Wild Boys," a club video of "Planet Earth" (this one in particular is a hoot), and other promo clips dating as far back as the early 1980s. While I would have liked a DVD featuring omitted videos like "Careless Memories," "Meet El Presidente," and "Lonely in Your Nightmare," I'm still pleased that I grabbed "Greatest." Yes, the price is a bit steep, but the videos bring back lots of welcome 1980s memories, and the bonus features are fun to watch once you're able to find them.

Summary: MTV's first "Creation"
Review: MTV's first creation was of course Duran Duran.
These guys are horrible. They are yesterday's N*SYNC to be honest. They fill their albums with complete filler. Wow,thanks DD..shows how much you care for your fans.
This DVD is bad. Please..do yourself a favor. Don't buy it,listen to it,or even mention it to a friend. It's one of the worst compilations ever made.
Besides, why would you want a copy of this horrid compilation anyhow? Please go get a U2 album. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: GREAT DVD
Review: I must say that I am so incredibly HAPPY that this video came out to DVD! But I must say, I was a little disappointed that not ALL of their videos are on it. Great video though. DVD was very well put together... but a little confusing to find the extras.

Summary: Nice Collection!
Review: Ok, I bought this DVD a couple of months ago, and I just wanted to clarify some things.

Pros: The video and audio quality is awesome. The Videos Included are Awesome, And the Extra features are quite entertaining, especially the Liberty EPK. The DVD box is nice too.

Cons: Some great videos are missing. For Example, Breath After Breath, Femme Fatale, Perfect Day, Too Much Information, Out Of My Mind and White Lines. It would've been great and very apropiate to include the Greatest EPK from 1998. Some live versions doesn't hurt anyone also. And finally, there should be comments about the reunion, the DVD and the videos from the band.

Well, anyway, this collection is still great, includes all the classics from the 80's and 90's with some exceptions. But if you want to see it from another point of view, Emi will probably never release another video collection DVD from this band including all the missing videos. So I recommend you to buy this DVD if you like this band or if you want a bit of nostalgia.
