Summary: Almost like being there....
Review: This is an excellent DVD, and long awaited for AKUS fans. Both the video and audio components of this concert are worth the price alone. The DTS 5.1 surround sound makes it feel like you're front and center. The concert is the same one that they used to make their "AKUS - Live" 2-CD set, with some omissions, most notably the two encore songs after "Oh, Atlanta". One highlight, for me at least, was the inclusion of the band's banter with the audience between songs. There is a little of this on the CD version, but much more is included here, and it really showcases the band's personality and sense of humor. For those who have been to one of their concerts, this truly is the next best thing to being there.

Disc two is far less impressive. The interviews are pretty stiff, and the producer got a little carried away with photography tricks - switching from color to black-and-white endlessly, and video gymnastics that look like they came right off of an overdone powerpoint presentation. The behind-the-scenes footage is simply the result of someone holding a home video camera and taking various shots of everyone monkeying for the camera. It's not all bad, by any means, but it is a lost opportunity for those who were hoping to get a little more insight into the band.

Bottom line, however - this is an excellent concert and a very well done DVD at that. It rivals the Eagle's "Hell Freezes Over" DVD for sound and video, and is one I will be watching over and over for years to come.

Summary: The Way it Ought to be Done
Review: My wife and I were actually at this concert and have eagerly anticipated its release on DVD for over a year now. It has lived up to our expectations. The concert was the best I've ever been to and this concert DVD may be the best I've seen. It's in widescreen, offers all the best audio formats, and is just chocked full of good stuff. The only drawback to it is that they left off one of the encore performances where the entire band gathered around one microphone. I can image the mixing headaches this could bring, but I'd still love to see it on the DVD.

Summary: AKUS LIVE Disk 2
Review: This DVD #2 stands on its own as one of the best. The first DVD disc is all concert and this one is pure personality, interviews, insights and footage from concerts and tours. You feel like family after watching it. The two DVD disk set is precious for AKUS fans and if you can only buy one DVD right now, this one is it folks.

Summary: It doesn't get any better than this
Review: If you have not heard the "LIVE" CD, then this will blow you away. If you have, it is almost as potent. This is pure Alison Krauss and AKUS fans will delight. It's sure to win all the awards. If you had a front row seat, backstage pass and freedom to roam... this is the fantasy portrayed on the DVD #1. The concert has all the comments and humor that was mainly edited from the CD. Great camera angles and the sound is spectacular. Did I like it? If I could rate it 6 stars, I would. Best music DVD ever.

Summary: Music made with love, humor, wit, irony
Review: Alison Krauss and Union Station's DVD Live is top fare for fans and will bring many new fans into the fold. The 2 cds highlight the band and its stars just as they are. Here Alison, Jerry Douglas, Ron Block, Dan Tyminiski, Larry Atamanuik, and Barry Bales play 23 songs and instrumentals from the band's catalog. Viewers can see close ups of the artist's faces, hands, and body movements as they make music that is truly Americana. Melancholy, shuffling, ripping, raging, floating music and vocals drift from the stage through a room sold out--patrons smiling, clapping, laughing, delighted in AKUS performance. Also, the 2nd cd gives viewers a rare backstage look at the band members, introduces each to the viewers with interviews, rare photos and film, and provides a feel for the endless highway. A must have for any one who already loves or is interested in exploring acoutic music made by the best acoustic band in the world, a band just emerging into larger venues. Yet they play an intimate set.

Summary: NO Center Channel! in DTS or Dolbo Digital 5.1
Review: The performance is great, 5 stars but the studio work is 1 star. What a disappointment from Rounder. I am hoping I got a defective disc. There is no center channel. It seems that in DD and DTS all is heard is the surround tracks. This release was delayed for over 2 mos. Maybe that is why. Hey Rounder what gives?

Summary: Bluegrass for the masses. The music is foot-stompingly good.
Review: I have to say that I am not a bona fide bluegrass or country fan.I stumbled on Alison Krauss from a borrowed Cd a few years ago and I have remained impressed til this day.I own the CD recording of this concert and have listened to it often, and I'm never anything but entertained, lifted, and awed by the talent on display.Having never seen the group perform live, I never realized how much the visuals help as Union Station interprets it's musical style on stage.
It's clear from the outset that this is a team effort and everyone contributes to make this a collaborative effort. The talent is extraordinary and the viewer never finds himself getting bored or tired of the "sound".Bluegrass is made here to seem like fun, and one can't not help getting swept up in the fast-paced numbers.
The picture quality is very high on the DVD as is the sound. The extras on DVD 2 provide a more intimate glimpse into individuals in Union Station. If you are in the mood for a world-class musical romp , a talent fest, breathtaking vocals by Alison, and a few hours of concert performances at their best, add this DVD to your collection. You will view this more than once,I already have, and will often as it's that much fun.

Summary: Musicianship at its best
Review: I've been waiting for this DVD to come out for a while now--in fact, I didn't buy the CD of this same show because I knew the DVD would eventually be released. This is one fantastic show! The musicianship on display is simply awe-inspiring. And Alison's voice is just heavenly...I think she's got the best voice out there of anyone, in nearly any musical genre. In addition to the excellent music being played, we see and hear the warmth and "aw-shucks" humor that AKUS is known for. I'm glad this performance is in anamorphic widescreen--it looks fantastic that way, and it really helps to draw you in. The Dolby Digital and DTS sound is great, although the center channel was not used to its potential (in fact, it's very difficult to hear anything coming out of the center channel at all). For those of you without Dolby Digital and DTS, there is also a PCM Stereo track included, which sounds like a very well-made CD.

My only real beef is that there is (sort of) a song missing from the CD version of this show (which, admittedly, I haven't heard). "There Is A Reason" is listed as the last song on the CD, but it's missing from the concert portion of the DVD. The studio version of it DOES turn up on Disc 2 (I'll let you find it), but I would've liked to have heard it live.

Speaking of Disc 2, it has some very good interviews on it and a montage of the band during their pre- and post-show times.

Overall, this is a very solid buy. Highly recommended.

Summary: The DVD is not region coded and will play in any region
Review: LIVE is the first DVD from Alison Krauss + Union Station. Shot in High Definition, the LIVE DVD will be available in anamorphic wide screen or in letterbox. Audio options include DTS 5.1 Digital Surround Sound, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, and a two-channel stereo PCM mix. The DVD is not region coded and will play in any region; however, it is a NTSC video and will not playback correctly on PAL televisions. Includes the LIVE concert, exclusive interviews, on-the-road footage and much more.

Summary: "Mesmerizing"
Review: This DVD played in one of the recorded formats, "DTS SURROUND SOUND", is just an unbelieveable experience and you just sit in your chair, mesmerized by the outstanding music. It is like you are in the front row of the concert at the Palace Theater in Louisville, Kentucky.
