Summary: La Barb Delivers...
Review: ....not at all bad fer an old broad.Remember I told ya waaaay back there in November 1999--a review for "The Broadway Album"--why the lady's voice and show tunes are simply a perfecto fit. Now, watch the lady in concert with this great DVD. I can't rave enuff about her rendition of (in my opinion) the best pop tune of all time, "Alfie". Nor can I say enuff about the last 15 minutes of show. If that doesn't tug at your hearts then there's no cure for you--I however am admittedly a hopeless, hopeless romantic. "Happy Days Are Here Again", "People", "I Believe", "Somewhere", etc, etc, etc. Outstanding! Uh, Barb...? You sure you're gonna hang up the concerts?

Summary: Beautiful Barbra But All The Extras Keep Getting In The Way!
Review: ...This show is quite an experience to watch from start to finish. It's amazing how much one can enjoy Streisand's incredible singing with all the excess and vulgarity that gets in the way. We should be lucky that we have this performance for posterity due to how infrequently Streisand performed live in concert, but how much more enjoyable it would have been - to me anyway - if Barbra concentrated more on singing and less with all the unnecessary production that keeps getting in the way and stalling the flow of her numbers. Barbra is the last in the line of great vocalists who fill each performance with drama and emotion. Why she insists on all this excess I cannot understand. The idea of re-tracing her career from the early nightclub days through Broadway(why "Second Hand Rose" is included with the Funny Girl numbers is a mystery!), etc, is an exciting one if only she concentrated more on her singing and less on the actors that keep appearing as her mother and her younger self...Barbra's voice has deepend with age and most of her numbers are now sung in lower keys than previously. However, she still remains the greatest singer alive in the line of Sinatra, Garland, and Ella and this is why I do not understand why she does not have the confidence to walk on stage, step up to the mike, and sing....pure and simple. The times she does do this in the course of her performance are mesmorizing: "Send In the Clowns", "On A Clear Day", "People", "Happy Days Are Here Again", "Cry Me A River", "Somewhere", and a beautiful "A Sleepin' Bee" confirm her status as possibly the finest popular singing-actress of the 20th Century. If only "Timeless" had more of these moments and less of the filler that ultimitly weakens Streisand's overall impact.

Summary: The Greatest Star
Review: After nearly 40 years, Barbra's still got it! And, seeing her perform these songs is even better than just listening to the CD. Every gesture. Every expression on her face. It makes one realize why she's always identified herself as an actress who sings. And, this concert, beautifully showcases her ability even more so than 1994's "The Concert". And, my God! It's amazing how much Lauren Frost looks like her... not to mention the vocal talents of this young girl. Brother Time is also a stand-out... it was great to see someone who has been so unfairly charged with being an egomaniac all these years disproving her critics by so graciously sharing the stage with two such phenominally gifted talents! The songs are all wonderful. The show features what is perhaps the best version of "People" and "Somewhere" to date... the choir truly adds something magical to these songs which in any other artist's hands could have become tired and overplayed years ago. My favorite moment has to be when Streisand looks at James Brolin out in the audience twoards the end of "Evergreen". There's something both beautiful and comical at the same time when she looks at him there and makes a face while hitting those last few remaining notes. "Papa Can You Hear Me" is at its most haunting here as a duet mixed with "You'll Never Know"... if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye and a shiver down your spine, nothing will. I hear she's writing an autobiography now... if this concert is any indication, that's going to be one heck of a read!

Review: An incredible timeline of Barbra's amazing career. Rather than just song after song, this performance offers both singing and small segments of theatrical entertainment and/or Barbra's dialogue between each performance, culminating with the bringing in of the New Millenium. Definitely worth owing.

Summary: Artist At Work
Review: At this point in time, there is not much to comment on regarding Barbra Streisand. You are either a fan or you are not. This concert is unlikely to change anyone's mind. What this DVD concert does is exemplify Barbra's legendary perfectionism. The video quality is stunning. The opening montage and intros to different chapters are done with the famous Streisand touch. As a record of the concert, this is a wonderful memento for every Barbra Streisand fan. What the show lacks in spontaneity, it makes up for in artistry. Although the woman never breaks a sweat or sheds a tear, you are still ultimately moved by watching a talent of immense proportions at the top of her game. Although I think a recording of just the New Year's Eve concert (this one is culled from the best of both nights) would have given a more immediate feel, there is no denying that by editing the two shows into a seamless flow, Streisand has created a truly "timeless" work of art.

Starting off from when she was a little girl and towards the end singing her greatest hits till everyone celebrates the new year of 2000 at the end of this great concert

In the concert itself, she have shown some of the things that she passed through her life. Starting with the recording studio, a 15-year old Barbra was played by Lauren Frost. She even sang songs from the Broadway, such as Miss Marmelstein, Don't Rain on My Parade, and Second Hand Rose. Also her Academy-award winner song, "Evergreen". In the ActII, she had a video of the highlights in her career..."The Main Event/Fight", "People" and "Send in the Clowns". Watch this concert...and you'll experience the ABSOLUTE BARBRA ever...!

Summary: I LOVED this performance, but what happened on the DUETS!?
Review: Barbra Streisand will always be an icon to many and this performance will demonstrate that. I really enjoyed her singing The Main Event, proud of her dabblings in disco. If there was one thing that I thought would have made this performance the ULTIMATE, would have been to see Barbra singing with all of her past duet partners on stage. I really did like seeing the montage of past duet partners, but it was NOT a complete history. I think if DONNA SUMMER would have appeared at the concert to sing the #1 DIVA DUET of the 20th Century-- Enough is Enough (No More Tears), it would have definitely made the night a true spectacle!! I don't think that they have EVER sang this song on stage. I would have liked to see that. Oh Well, maybe for her next FINAL tour, she might think about it.

Summary: SHE is nothing short of "THE GREATEST"
Review: Barbra Streisand's final concert(oh, why is she stopping??? If I had been blessed with that voice, I'd be singing every minute!)was just fantastic!! She looked great, sang sooo beautifully, I just did not want it all to end. I'm sure the young lady (Lauren Frost, I think) will have a big future. How great was she!! What a break! During "You'll Never Know", "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" and "Just a Piece of Sky" from "Yentl", my goose bumps never went down. The songs Barbra sang were done to perfection. The only thing I did not understand was, in introducing "Papa, can you hear me?", she brought up a story about a love letter sent to a woman from her father, before he met her mother. She grew up without knowing her father, knowing he passed away when she was just 15 months old. Her mother raised her, took her to her music lessons, etc., and all she said about her mother was that she had a beautiful singing voice. She talked about praying to her father, during the filming of "Yentl", she showed a video of her son, boasted about her husband. I just could not understand why her mother was barely mentioned. Oh well, I really ordered this video to hear and watch her sing, but maybe just wished she had just sung!!! Also, when she showed the duet with Celine Dion, I would have hoped she had said "what a voice she has!" instead of a mere "she's a sweetie" or something to that effect. The video was WONDERFUL though. She has one of the greatest voices of the century! Thank you Fox, for having it on tv, and thank you, Amazon, for the video!!! I'm so so sorry she is finished singing. She is "NOTHING SHORT OF THE GREATEST"!!!!!
