Summary: Close, but no cigar
Review: Great songs, great musicianship, terrific production values and sound production, but the band plays as if it is merely turning in a very perfunctory performance.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Eagles and have always loved listening to the Hell Freezes Over CD. But this DVD, which features the band's comeback performance for an MTV special, somehow left me cold.

The band seems merely to be going through the motions and there is no fire in the gig.

It does have its highlights though -- the splendid reworking of Hotel California, Joe Walsh's turn on Pretty Maids All In A Row, the first live performance of the then new song Learn To Stand Still and Timothy B. Schmidt's always-amazing I Can't Tell You Why.

On the plus side, the surround soundtrack is among the best you'll find on a music DVD.

Summary: Greeeaaattt Sound
Review: I can't help but smile every time I think about this DVD. I purchased it specifically to try out my new DTS receiver. The sound is absolutely incredible especially on the bonus track (I wish they would have included video for this). I saw these guys in the mid 70's and time has done nothing to diminish their talent.

The only bad thing that I can say about this DVD is the annoying fade outs and fade ins between songs. I'm not sure what the purpose of this was, but it definitely detracts from the concert "experience".

Summary: What DVD players were made for.
Review: Unfortunately this was my first DVD, having bought my first DVD surround sound system a few weeks ago. Unfortunate because so often the DVDs I've bought since do not come up to the same standard. This is what DVD is all about, brilliant personal performances from consummate professionals, faultless direction and fantastic sound production. If only others would use this as the standard to aim for. If you haven't made your mind up whether to buy that DVD system yet, give this a try!

Summary: THE EAGLES - HELL FREEZES OVER
Review: The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over DVD is the next best thing to being at The Eagles 1995 Hell Freezes Over Concert! I was at the then, Great Woods, now Tweeter Center, in Mansfield, Mass., to see the 1995 concert which was great! If you weren't an "Eagles" fan before, you will be, after watching this DVD. There's just so many great songs, from the earlier ones like, "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California", to the newer songs like, "Get Over It", and "Love Will Keep Us Alive". The Eagles are one of the most talented bands of our times and the "Hell Freezes Over" DVD really displays that talent. The songwriting, the singing, and the instrumentals, are like no other band out there, and one will truly enjoy watching and listening to this DVD!

Summary: What the folks like!
Review: I've always been a fan of the Eagles...I bought this video, and popped it in the DVD, and of course loved it. My seventy year old parents came for a month's stay while I was recuperating from a car accident. I put it in the DVD player, and after it played through, even the "folks" wanted to know where they could get a copy. I thought that the younger generations (I'm forty-something) would like the Eagles, but was really surprised that my parents liked them too.
If you want to know what kind of music crosses the generation gaps, The Eagles definitely qualify.

Summary: Music Lover
Review: For anyone who loves great music-regardless of type-this DVD is for you. The concert is very laid back but I believe that speaks to the quality of this performance, the music is so crisp and entralling that you don't need any flash. In addition to some of the band's well known hits like "Hotel California", I loved Glenn Frey's rendition of "The Girl From Yesterday" and Don Henley's soulful "The Last Resort."
My wife (who never sits to watch tv) cuddled up next to me to enjoy this fantastic collection of tunes by a group that makes it look all so easy. Their encore presentation of "Desperado" left me desparate for another DVD performance of this magnitute.

Summary: Great for hard core eagles fans
Review: After reading the many glowing reviews I thought I couldn't go wrong with this DVD and if you're a big Eagles fan this is probably a 5 star DVD. These guys can still sing and play great, but the performance is so layed back it can put you to sleep. The best part of the DVD is that they left "New Kid in Town" off.

Summary: The Eagles soar LIVE in DTS Sound!!!! AWESOME concert!!!!
Review: This reunion concert of The Eagles is a memorable event, from 1994, when the guys decided to get back together after many years apart. The opening song has a brilliant rearrangement in a deelectricfied set....Hotel California! The sound of the guitars' strings being plucked are crystal clear, in the incomparable DTS format, and after the synchronized guitar intro - Don Henley's voice hits his "On that dark desert highway...." notes superbly, with the center speaker solely devoted to him on this track! An incredible version of this classic song - which, of course, received favorable airplay on the radio! My favorite song: I Can't Tell You Why, has bassist Timothy B. Schmidt singing his lead vocals, dead on, to the 1979 studio recording....Glen Frey soothes the listener with his keyboard playing, on this one. Overall, this is The Eagles best concert recording, ever! I own the first 1999 DVD release of Hell Freezes Over, which happened to have the DTS audio! The sound on this disc is phenomenal....you'll have to hear it to believe it! I treasure this DVD of mine; I know you will too! Take It Easy!
