Summary: I am sorry, I have not seen this yet
Review: Hello! I saw the Vapor Trails Tour in Chicago, and the crowd never sat down. Even thourgh I was high up in the Stands, I could not see the band. I am a 25 year fan of Rush, and look forward to all the perfections and flaws I've been reading about. I am so glad that something like this is available and in the Widescreen format. My 84 inch wide screen TV will serve as the perfect tool to watch this show. Just as soon as I finsh this pre-review, I will buy the DVD. Looking forward to a new studio album here, and I'm sure their are plans in the works. If you have never been to a Rush Concert or have never heard Rush before, it's an aquired taste. I loved this music. Can only hope the crowd doesn't detract from the music as it did in Chicago.........Have a great day!

Summary: HABLEMOS CON LA VERDAD...UN POBRE DVD
Review: 1.

Summary: Poor sound detracts significantly from the quality
Review: This is a really cool DVD simply because it is the first of its kind for Rush. By that, I mean the first full recording of a Rush concert without serious studio enhancements (both audio and visual). While you'll always wish for other songs not included, I think the selection was quite good and representative of their entire career. That said, there are several technical issues that detract from the quality of the work.
1. The sound is terrible. Mainly, Geddy's voice is way to low in the mix given that what I heard was a pretty strong performance vocally that night. Secondly though, there was too much of Geddy's bass and not enough of the Alex's guitar Now, I don't know what their technical difficulties were, but it seems hard to believe that they couldn't have gotten a workable recording that could have been mixed better when they got it back home. I've heard better audience boots than this recording.
2. The video work was a bit choppy. By that, I mean that switches seemed quite random and didn't stay focused on anyone long enough. This was quite apparent when any of the artists had some significant part that stood out. I would have liked to see more time spent focused on them during those moments. Mostly, I think that is an editing preference.

All in all, I'd give 3 stars. It would have been 4.5 if not for the poor audio mix.

Summary: Something For Nothing
Review: Rarely do you receive ANYTHING for nothing...but the cost of this 2-disc set may leave you thinking you have (BUY THE DVD). A spectacular performance by one of the best and longest lived bands on the planet. I bought the 3 disc CD set first(BUY THE DVD) and was pretty disappointed by the sound. Plugging the DVD into my very modest surround sound and playng in Pro Logic mode blew away the CD(cranking up the sound helps too). Overcoming all of the obstacles (some apparently self-inflicted) to make this DVD shows some serious dedication. If you love Rush, (BUY THE DVD). It captures 'the boys' in front of an awe inspiring crowd, and the tour was incredible (I saw them in Hartford, CT). Ignore the naysayers (BUY THE DVD) and purchase this fine DVD.

Summary: Wake Up!!!
Review: I watched the documentary first before listening to my audio copy or watching the concert.I was then prepared for any glitches or imperfections when and if they presented themselves. What or who is perfect anyway? After watching the documentary, which is worth the price of this package alone,I wondered how they pulled this off at all? I then watched the show and am quite pleased with the results. No it is not perfect but is a fantastic representation of what went on in Rio this night. Those fans were just incredible!!The guitar sound is awesome and Earthshine may be the finest song on there. If you like Rush then purchasing this set is a no brainer. All you critics please let us know when you make a package better than this one! Only perfection will do!

Summary: I hate to say it, but this DVD just blows
Review: I am a longtime and very serious RUSH fan - this DVD was a huge dissapointment - the technical problems prevented the group from actually recording their music. Instead, we are listening to the audience sing notes of instrumentals. I wanted to hear RUSH with the audience in the backround and instead I was listening to the audience with RUSH in the backround.

Summary: Great Concert but Terrible Recording
Review: Rush is one the best bands to see live. They are master musicians with a large repertoire of songs over the past 30 years. The Vapor Trails tour which featured 3hrs of Rush and no opening acts was amazing. They really know how to put on a show. In this DVD, they took their concert to Brazil. They had never played Brazil before and were taken by surprise at the sheer number of fans they had in South America. The concert was incredible. I have never seen an audience participate in a concert as this one. It really is a sight to see.

However, they had logistical problems preparing for the concert. It rained hard and they missed both a sound check and video check. They also put very low resolution remote controlled 4:3 aspect cameras behind Neil's drum kit because they feared that a 1/2 dozen cameramen would distract him. The resulting recording of this stellar performance is terrible. The video is dark and blurry, the editing is choppy, it is not anamorphic, over-compressed and the audio has too much crowd noise. You can improve the audio by listening to the stereo track using Dolby ProLogic instead of the 5.1 track. People with higher quality audio/video equipment will see the problems more than those with lower quality equipment.

This DVD is disappointing because the concert itself was superb, fans waiting over 5 years for it yet the recording ruined it. Then again, it's only about $20 for two discs including a documentary and extras so pick it up anyways and let's all hope that they either re-release a better version or a new DVD on the next tour. Rush and their fan base deserves better than what the audio/video production company did to this memorable performance.

If the audio/video were better, I would have rated this DVD 5 stars.

Summary: The joy is overwhelming
Review: I admit I approached this DVD with low expectations. I was somewhat disappointed by Rush's last two studio albums. And on "Different Stages" Alex used heavy metal distortion for every song and Geddy's singing sounded pale. I felt like Rush was slowly losing their magic.
But from the moment I saw my three favorite musicians burst furiously into "Tom Sawyer" before the wild cheering fans in Rio, and until the credits stopped rolling after the show had ended, I did not stop smiling like a kid. There were times I had to swallow a lump of sadness out of sheer elation.
To see Rush performing from the depths of their heart and to see the crowd so ecstatically moved, was overwhelming, and getting this DVD is probably one of my happiest moments of 2003.

Summary: awsome dvd but cant figure out special features
Review: HAS ANYONE CLEVERLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO OPEN UP THE EASTER EGGS ON THE DVD? IS IT OLD CONCERT FOOTAGE OR DOCUMANTARY? WOULD LOVE TO KNOW. ALSO WHICH DISC IS IT ON?

Summary: INCREDIBLE SHOW
Review: This DVD is absolutely incredible. I saw Rush three times on this tour, and the DVD is a perfect translation. The double-disc set captures the band in a raw and energetic way. I was amazed by how true the sound was to the actual concert!! I never expected Rush to release something quite this well done. While some say that the sound quality is too rough, the previous release ("Different Stages" 3-CD set) has a more polished sound. This DVD footage is more similar to the early guitar-driven days of RUSH.

Hopefully Rush will take inspiration from this past tour and continue in the same direction....
