Summary: Dazed and Confused
Review: I still remember the day in high school when Paul Warhoff started raving about the new Yardbirds, or Led Zeppelin. He absolutely loved Jimmy Page. An excellent guitarist, Paul learned and played every Page song perfectly by summer. Another friend, Craig Phillips, also played guitar and Page. Summers were fantastic; surf all day and go to the Frost house(it was kind of a Brady Bunch family of hippy teenagers) to rock out with Zeppelin every afternoon and night. So, naturally, disappointed with the "Song Remains the Same" I jumped at the chance to see more, and, perhaps, better Zeppelin. Sadly, it isn't the case. The band plays too loud, too sloppy, and the rhythms that blast off on record are lost. I got bored watching this thing, and I turned it off. It does have moments. Zeppelin will always be one of my favorite bands, but this DVD is not worth the money.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This DVD is amazing! It is like watching a Zep concert from the best seat in the house. Some of the video footage isn't top quality because in a review in Guitar One magazine Jimmy Page told the magazine that they included bootleg footage alongside the official footage. My two favorite songs are the extended version of Dazed and Confused and Moby Dick. Jimmy Page and John Bohnam are extremely talented. Get this DVD

Summary: Led Zeppelin - 2 DVD Set
Review: This is the best concert DVD available today - bar none. If you enjoy concert videos, you don't want to be without this set in your collection. The sound is sensational and the enhancment/restoration of all the 24 - 33 year old footage is remarkable. The only way this set could have been made better is if it were filmed and recorded today. It's simply a "Whole Lotta Fun."

One technical problem - Has anyone who owns this DVD noticed a problem with the Dolby 5.1 soundtrack on the Albert Hall disc? There's severe distortion. It's particularly noticable during "Bring It On Home" on the harmonica. The Stereo PCM and DTS tracks are perfect. The problem is only with the Dolby 5.1. I haven't heard or read anything about this problem. Wondering if I got a copy from a bad pressing (I had returned it for another copy. Same problem). I'm trying to find out if the DVD company is aware of this and offering replacements. Anyway this disc is GREAT!

Summary: Awesome Concert Audio
Review: If you have a Dolby Digital system, this is the DVD for you. The concert audio is flawless. The remix into 5.1 and DTS is superb. The video is good and the presentation is good but the AUDIO is the unbelievable. The 1970 show at the Royal Albert Hall just jams.

I can't get over how good it sounds. The extras are great. If you a Zep fan BUY THIS and play it on a good Dolby digital system.

Summary: Zeppelin conquers America again
Review: This DVD is Zeps way of apologizing to all their fans for The Song Remains The Same. The book included even eludes to that fact.

If you are a Zeppelin fan this is the DVD you have been waiting for. It includes a glimpse into four periods of the bands life and some of their best performances.

The picture quality is excellent considering some of it is 30 years old. The sound is excellent except a little static out of the center channel on the Dolby Digital 5.1 track. DTS is excellent. And the $22 price tag for 5 and a half hours of live Zeppelin footage can't be beat.

I've been playing this DVD for three weeks straight now and it's still wonderful.

I can't say enough about this DVD except a big thanks to Jimmy,
I can only hope he held some stuff back so we can have another DVD soon.

If you're a Zeppelin fan then run, don't walk, to your nearest store and get this DVD, you won't be dissapointed.

If you're not a Zeppelin fan, get it anyway and you will be..

Summary: THE FANS GET WHAT THEY NEED...AND MORE...
Review: The goldmine of this set is the Albert Hall Concert. What a revelation. It's simply amazing to experience a band that was only 2 years /albums old and already in greatness. John Bonham is electrifying in action here, and Robert Plant's voice is HUGE. Booming through the speakers. Page is the silent virtuouso. Playing beautiful notes. This is an invincible band. What a shame Heartbreaker couldn't be included.

Most of all, one can see the popular reaction of the crowds to the band. The band feels more like a pop / blues band than a "rock" outfit. It's extremely fresh.

Disc 1 is also the "Dazed And Confused" disc - with multiple versions of the song. The amusing Paris show where a crowd looks on at Page and Plant doing Dazed N Confused like they're madmen, and Communication Breakdown video are great historical oddities...they should have interviewed the directors.

And what's missing are interviews, but Led Zep always preferred to showcase the music. Some onstage banter would've been fun as well. I even enjoyed the DVD menu inserts with nice visuals showcasing the nostalgia of the whole release.

Highlights of Disc 2: Immigrant Song gets a wonderful editing treatment. Rock N Roll from Australia is super powerful. The 4 songs from Madison Square Garden capture a band at its superstar peak. The Earl's Court and Knebworth gigs capture a more serious side for me...

Agree that the newly edited "inserts" seem a bit off here and there in places, but I wondered if this was to cover up deteoriated film.

As a historical and musical document, I'm glad this has finally been released and went to # 1. For people who haven't been converted...buy the albums then get this....I do feel there's room for more, like a remastered, complete concert version of The Song Remains the Same. Doubt if we'll see it, but let's hope the archives are kept well....

There really should be more. Let's hope the success of this release gives Jimmy Page an incentive to look around...

Summary: the finest live rock DVD ever?
Review: Wow! Sensational quality and quantity of live led zepp performances that span a decade. Don't let tarnished memories of "the song remains the same" put you off from splashing out on this two-disc set, as you won't find any rubbishy longwinded fantasy sequences here, just raw, tight performances from this legendary band.

Summary: Looks and Sounds Like it Was Recorded Yesterday
Review: For us old Led Heads who thought we'd seen and heard the last of the greatest band ever, this DVD (and CD, How the West Was Won), was heaven-sent. All of the kudos listed above are right on. The "Supershow" bit, however, is more hilarious than musically rewarding. With the audience that looks much like a PTL crowd on Sunday morning, the whole seen looks like it was lifted from "This is Spinal Tap."

Summary: Sick DVD
Review: ...Led Zep harkens back to the golden age of rock - the 70's. They were my first favorite band, right when the broke up, in 1980. This DVD is evidence what I, and others, missed out on. The DVD is a bargain, and has alot of material to watch and be amazed. The set goes from their electric blues beginnings at the 1970 Royal Albert Hall concert to their swan song at 1979's Knebworth festival. The restoration of the material is a marvel, and while not perfect, most of the material is quite old and that needs to be recognized when evaluating it. Given the age, the picture quality is excellent. Its not quite as good as Queen's DVD "We Will Rock You" but nothing is ever perfect. On the other hand, the sound quality is ridiculously amazing and as good as any music DVD I've ever heard. If you don't have a 5.1 decoder or receiver, you're missing out. These DVD's (except for the extras) are in 5.1 DTS or Dolby Digital (I use the DTS) and bring the music to another level. Though most of the surround action is for ambience, reverb and the occasional echo or pan effect, it still gives one that "you are there" feeling. The bass is huge and in your face. I can't wait until the re-release the album catalog in SACD or DVD-A, as its tailor-made for those formats.

If one is picky, you can ask why is there 4 "Dazed and Confused" and "Communication Breakdown" versions on Disc I? Why is some of the material from the movie Song Remains the Same on Disc II (despite its improvement in quality)? Where is "Down on the Tiles", "No Quarter", "Good Times Bad Times" or "When the Levee Breaks"? Beggers can't be choosers though.

However, easily this is the best the band has offered thus far, and possibly ever. The DVD shows the band continuously transforming over the years as shown in the footage, and they also age (if not quite gracefully). You can definitely see signs of road-weariness and substance-abuse. But that is what it was like back then. If one does not like this legendary band, then don't criticize them or this DVD and go listen to talentless [music] that has ruined the music scene and young kids' tastes, dress attire and attitudes.
