Summary: In response to Figaro and a reviewer in Berlin
Review: I would just like to say a few words about the reactions to Andrea Bocelli. In the first place, someone in Berlin said that "amateurs" were those who sang because they loved to sing. As a singer, myself, and good friend to other professionals in Birmingham, I can say that no one can maintain a professional career in much anything, especially singing, without an innate and unflagging love for it. As for Figaro in Birmingham (I wonder who you are), this brings up another point. While I agree with you that, from what I have heard, he does not project much while singing with a microphone, I have never heard any indication that he uses bad technique. He is always well supported in his breath and uses correct placement, something I cannot say for many performers today. One of his most selling features is his ability to express such emotion in his singing. Perhaps he holds back when he has a microphone in order to more finely convey his interpretation. Not all singing must be done at concert hall-level. As for the comments about Sarah Brightman, I will say that there is some margin of opinion. She is first and foremost a musical theatre singer. While much of her technique in recent singing, such as on the "Eden" album, does not display the full range of her ability, I do not think such a exaggerated and inarticulate rejection is valid, just because you do not want to hear her. If she is the only person you have heard as untalented as Florence Foster Jenkins, then you need to expand your audial horizons before making such a claim. In summary: Anyone buying a CD or video does so because they like the artist. Gaining pleasure from the purchase is the goal, not analyzing those you feels are worth your criticism. If you like Andrea Bocelli, buy the video. If you don't, find someone you do like and buy their music.

Summary: enjoyable dvd
Review: This is a nice dvd from the pbs special of his that was on television. I especially like the fact that he has other folks sing with him rather than just singing by himself. Nice to listen to and relax to.

Summary: I think people are funny-especially figaro1010
Review: I did not think that this was a very good recording. I do not think this man is a good singer. The most fun I had was reading the reviews for this product. I agree with Figaro and what he said-the man is terrible. This is coming from an amazingly not bitter 20 year old voice student. It actually gives me hope that if a singer this BAD can make it, that maybe someday I will too. Keep singing Bocelli, by the time I debut people will see a good singer as something of the past

Summary: Response to Figaro1010's Review.
Review: It is truly amazing to me that a human being can utilize the written medium in this fashion. Clearly, only a very bitter little person can describe such a "Soul Toucher" such as Andrea Bocceli as "terrible". Once again, here is a so called expert telling millions of people how wrong they can be. He attempts to do this by destroying the opinions of souls that have been touched by this man. Whoever said "God closed Bocelli's eyes to open ours" was absolutely right. Figaro, keep practicing. As you can see it is the honesty proyected and not the actual technicalities that make a performance moving and worth the money.

Summary: Okay, I'm going to write a whole new review.
Review: The first time I wrote a review about this very adult orientated concert starring (to know him is to love him) Andrea Bocelli, that cute growldog of an Italian tenor, it didn't come out good in my eyes. I saw this concert on PBS and would like to see it again at some point (I have it on video now!)

Don't listen to the critics, folks. This concert, in which he performs virtually all of the songs from his remarkable "Romanza" LP (1997), will have to guarantee that Bocelli will drown out the insults of critics who say he ain't all that, even though he's (so they say) a nobody compared to Michael Jackson and Ricky Martin, two of the biggest excuses for being the most famous artists in the world. Still, I'd love to see Andrea sing them to their grave once and for all.

That's all, folks!

Summary: I don't know what you people aretalking about
Review: I don't hear the emotion all the reviewers are talking about. As a professional singer for 20 years now who has a very fulfilling career I find that I must clarify a few things. I'm not going to go off on technique or anything like that, other reviewers have taken care of that for me. The things that people obvoiusly take for granted as a gift from God is not all that good when you have heard every song on this song sung 100's of times by scores of other singers. You can enjoy his singing. There is beauty in any type of voice. The problem I have is that while praising him you set him as an example to others who don't know a thing about what we singers do. It is true he does not fall into the category of those singers who while technically perfect are still very, very boring. He does fall into that category of person that was born with a tremendous gift. He does not, however use that gift effectively. When measured against what this voice has the capability of; I must say it was very disappointing. He is just another of those amateurs whose only saving grace is that he finds a way to put some "emotion" into his singing. Where I come from that is the bear minimum. People like Andrea Bocelli, and yes-Sarah Brightman, serve a purpose. They embody the very best of what and "amateur" is:A person who sings only for the love of music. Hopefully people will listen to them and develop interest in opera. If you liked Bocelli listen to Caruso, Vickers, Bjoerling, Corelli, Merrill, Milnes, Callas, Tebaldi, Scotto, Price, Peters, et al. All of these people manage, some how, to put emotion into their singing and sing with depth and power. After hearing these people you will understand why less understanding "students" of singing are so "vocal" about their derision of Bocelli. Thank You

Summary: In response to Figaro
Review: I believe your comments are an insult to everyones' intelligence and opinions who wrote reviews on this video. Andrea Bocelli has a wonderful and inspirational voice and I can't imagine how anyone can use the word 'terrible' in the same sentence with his name. The combination of beautiful music and scenery made this video excellent. As someone with 15 years of musical background I think I have a fairly educated opinion. Whether you classify him as opera or not is beside the point, he is adored by millions around the world. Music, like art, cannot be judged by measuring against any standard. His voice, as does Sara Brightman's, transcends and inspires, truly a gift from God. That said, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but that doesn't mean it should be expressed.

Summary: Moving Melodies--an "E" ticket ride
Review: If you are a vocal perfectionist, don't buy this video. However, if you love music and beauty you will LOVE this! Have you ever dreamed of front-row seats on a beautiful summer's evening in Italy? This is the complete package. You can avoid all the cost and the hassle of getting there and you don't have to dress up. As a classically trained vocalist I too noticed the little imperfections. Ms. Brightman leaves me cold. Yet, the wonderful melodies and visual splender were ample compensation.

Summary: For those who know nothing of opera or classic voice
Review: I have been reading the reviews of other amazon customers and all of them are very complementary. One mentiones that he does not understand the scorn towards him from the opera world. The answer is simple-the man is terrible. As a student of opera and the voice I am appalled to see such a discrace to the profession getting concerts. If you have ever heard him singing without the aid of microphones adn speakers you would really know the sham that is Andrea Bocelli. First of all his voice has no carrying power. He lacks basic knowlege of breath and support. The only thing he has going for him is an italian sounding voice. Sorry people if you want to learn of opera as it should be sung by those who have proven themselves on stage for decades listen to the 3 tenors. After listening to them you will find out what a true beautiful voice and love for the art is. LA Lastly I feel I must point out the other sad side of this. Some other person pointed out that Bocelli reminded him of another of his favorite classical singers, Sarah Brightman. This is the only thing I can agree with. She is without a doubt the worst female voice since Florence Foster Jenkins(anyone who wants to laugh really hard find a copy of her and listen.) The only way she got parts on Broadway was the fact that her husband was none other than ANDREW LLOYD WEBER. Bocelli is TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, and a whole lot of other bad words that I can't write and still be posted. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS DVD AND THEN SAY YOU LIKE OPERA. HE IS NOT AN OPERA SINGER. SAYING THAT IS A MOCKERY OF 400 YEARS OF ART.

Summary: Andrea Bocelli may lead some to actually enjoy opera.
Review: It is amazing to watch the reactions of those who hear Andrea Bocelli the first time. I have friends who typically listen to country music, and they will immediately ask where they can purchase one of his CD's.

We had friends over to watch the Tuscany DVD and the wife was close to tears and kept saying she had goosebumps from the performance. In today's environment, Andrea provides a beautiful respite from the "noise" on the radio.

Like Sarah Brightman, he is a beautiful addition to our world!
