Review: This movie was so boring. The scenery was okay, but the rest of the movie was horrible. And as for that fake Austrailian accent...what was Brad Pitt thinking?

Summary: Brad Pitt is impossible.
Review: If it weren't for Brad Pitt warbling his way through this movie with a bad german accent, it might have actually been enjoyable. The cinematography is gorgeous, with long spans of geographic beauty. The storyline is reasonably gripping as well, recounting Tibetan history, the lines of friendship, and ultimate self enlightenment. But ruining the integrity of Seven Years in Tibet is that rotten Brad Pitt, who stumbles in with a performance that runs the gamut from mildly irritating to gratingly painful.Sad but true: Mr. Pitt makes this movie extremely difficult to watch.

Summary: The Power of Culture
Review: Seven Years in Tibet tells a story about the values, perceptions, and history of Tibetin culture as seen and experienced through an outsider's eyes. This point of view portrays the beauty, peace and humanity of a remote culture many people would never experience. The seven year experience changes both the outsider and the people within Tibet as they walk a shared path of curiosity, respect, and dreams. The most touching truth is that friendship and caring has the strength to cross over barriers of differences. The film also mentions the importance of knowing who you are,where you come from, and most importantly, where you belong. Finally, if one culture is eliminated through intolerance, the entire world will miss its presence and its contributions, even a remote society in Tibet. Brad Pitt played a wonderful role from a self centered, short tempered man who could not care about anyone except himself to a person who was given a gift of caring for other people and society. In turn he was able to enrich his own life be being able to care for and connect to his son and teach him his love for climbing. The story takes place in remote circumstances but the message is universal; "The ability to care and understand, is the cornerstone of human contentment."

Summary: Semi-interesting.
Review: I'm pretty sure this a really good movie. For some reason though, I just couldn't get into it. There were times when the dialogue was interesting, but then it would switch to a scene that would totally throw me off. The setting was extremely beautiful, and the acting, from what I saw was very good. I'm not going to bash this movie simply because I alone didn't understand it. It wouldn't be fair. I will concede that maybe I didn't watch it enough (only 1-and-a-half times) to really understand it. With that said, I give "Seven Years In Tibet" 3 1/2 stars. Maybe later, if and when I watch it again, it will go up to four or maybe even five stars for me and I will post it then.

Review: Though I did not see this film in a theater, I really wish I had. I haven't seen such beautiful scenery in a movie since The Sound of Music!
Brad Pitt does an outstanding job at playing an Austrian mountaineer who winds up befriending the curious young Dalai Lama.
Some may say that this is quite a long tale to watch, but as long as you are ready to watch a deeply involved plot unfold into a stunning masterpiece, I'm sure that you'll have no problem with the time required to watch this movie.
One more thing, if you don't have any interest in international travel, I'm certain that this movie will change your mind.

Summary: Brilliant vistas and cinematography, yet draggy at times.
Review: While the story portrayed in this movie is excellent and remains true to historical fact, there are times when you wish that Brad Pitt would just go back home and end it all. Pitt portrays Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian soldier who, while hiking on an expedition to the top of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, is captured and becomes a prisoner of war. After escaping, he makes his way to the mountains of Tibet, and is brought before the Dalai Lama. The friendship takes its time in developing, and while some may consider this a good thing in the progression of the story, others may be bored by its length. However, the sweeping mountain vistas and the elegant portrayal of the Tibetan community manage to save the movie from being a total waste. The acting contributes much to the story, with original and genuine performances, especially from Brad Pitt (who would've thought?). If movies with heavily involved storylines are your niche, then this is sure to please; if movies with stunning cinematography and breathtaking landscapes serve your taste, this is also for you. If you don't fit into either of the above, rent another Pitt flick.

Review: This film is good...great even, except for some of the casting and the accents that are used. German is hard to fake for some reason. nonetheless, good effort. I would give this three and a half stars. the enlightened one's popcorn-film.

Summary: An un-missable touching drama.
Review: This is a truly beautiful film, a stunning story and awesome photography and cinematography and a plus for Brad Pitt's great acting skills. It also has extra-excellent sound and good special effects. 'Seven Years In Tibet' could be confusing for children under age 9, people of business with The Dalali Lama and his life. This film is much better than 'Kundun' which was quite disappointing.

Summary: Great story marred by poor Pitt acting
Review: This is a great story that was poorly told in this movie. I felt like I was watching Brad Pitt in Tibet which is a testament to his poor acting skill. I really wanted to like this movie but was thoroughly disappointed. Even a soundtrack by Yo-Yo Ma could not save it. The directing was also distracting with poor pacing and choppy editing. I really wish this had been a great movie and I was rooting for it but it fell flat I am very sorry to say.

Summary: Don't let the face on the cover fool you!
Review: I have to admit Seven Years in Tibet will go down in the annals of history as something of a great story, and the movie will become part of that. There are beautiful scenes and wonderful parts to this modification of Harrer's original story. I wish they had somebody who could stay in character better than Pitt, who seemed to want to break back into a Hollywood tough-guy character every other line. All in all, this is very good at portraying another side of the war. Few people could say they didn't learn something new without reading the book or seeing the movie - whether it be just facts or a lesson about life. The child who played the Dalai Lama was brilliant and showed his innocence and strengths at the same time. At times I was reminded of Little Buddha. See the movie or read the book - you will be wiser and happier when done.
