Rating: 5 stars
Summary: time travel classic with a twist
Review: What if you could travel back in time to pearl harbor the day before the japanese attack??? what if you had a modern aircraft carrier and jets what would you do??? and how would your actions affect history as we know it??? this is the premise of the movie The Final Countdown---a very solid cast makes this time travel story very credible--Kirk Douglas--James Farentino Martin Sheen and Katherine Ross to name the main characters---A very thought-provoking film--What would you do????

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Time travel, jets & an aircraft carrier. This one has it all!
Review: Final Countdown explores what would happen if modern fire power was available to the U.S. Navy the day before Pearl Harbour. Great special effects(for the era, a solid plot and fine performances by Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen make this one great for repeat viewing. Now if only it was easily available. I have a really bad dub but would treasure a new copy. This one needs to be re-issued!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the BEST SciFi films so far!
Review: Other than Kirk Douglas'overacting at times, this is a first rate film. As an ex-Navy Carrier swabbie I enjoyed this "Sea Story." Too bad it's not available, but maybe Amazon.com can do something about that!?!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Definitely a keeper in my private collection.
Review: Great story line. A clever weaving of fact and fiction. Pricks the imagination by mixing modern-day and pre-Pearl Harbor naval warfare technology. Don't go to sleep, you'll miss it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A thought provoking film, one of sci-fi's best movies.
Review: It is a shame this film is not available for purchase. It is one of the best films I've seen on time travel. Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen give good performances. The film shows just how far the Navy has advanced in 30 years. The story moves at a quick pace and has just enough special effects to enhance the story without drawing attention away from it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent display of technological advances, comparisons.
Review: I am a retired Naval Officer and served aboard USS Saratoga and USS FDR.This is the most realistic movie as far as procedure, dialogue, flight deck activity are concerned that I have ever seen. Also for Sci-Fi and time travel buffs--a MUST. Thought provoking.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: an all time favorite. Seen it ten+ times.
Review: A type of dilemna that makes one think seriously of the ramifications of playing with or altering the events of things to come. is it a paradox?

Rating: 5 stars

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent. Aviation fans take note...
Review: Since so many reviews are already posted, I'll keep this brief. It's nice to see this film get such an excellent DVD release. This movie is great and has aged quite well. The premise of the Nimitz being thrown back into time and given the opportunity to change the course of world history is an intriuging one even today. The Final Countdown boasts some ofthe best aircraft footage ever caught on film, hollywood or documentary. The scene between the Jolly Rogers F-14's and the 2 Japanese Zero fighters is a timeless classic.

The sound is excellent, the transfer is quite good, and the 2 disc set includes very special bonuses for fans of the F-14, or aviation in general. And the bonus disc interviews the Jolly Rogers squadron that flew in the film, worth it if you are an avaiation fan. If not, you might still enjoy it anyways, as they certainly have an entertaining story about one of the cast members!
