Summary: What movies should be
Review: When people find out that my favorite movie is Stalag 17, they usually say "What?" I try to explain that this movie is what movies should be. Entertaining because of the people making the movie. Not special effects. There aren't many actors today who could pull this movie off as is. That is both a tribute to the actors and Billy Wilder, and an indictment of today's Hollywood. I enjoy movies but I wish I could have been around to see this movie in a theatre.

Summary: A great movie!
Review: I thought that this movie was one of the best war films I have ever seen. I loved the whole thing and I thought that the humor that Animal brought to the film made it even better. It made you think and feel for the characters in the film and that is what makes it wonderful.

Summary: A Film for All Ages
Review: This has to be one of the best movies of all time. When I first saw this film I was in high school. My father had made such a big deal about me seeing this film, so one day he we sat down and watched it together. I loved it. A few days later I rented it from the video store and made my friend watch it. He still comments on how good this movie is. I have yet to meet someone who has not enjoyed this movie.

Summary: Great POW story
Review: This is not your typical WWII war movie. Great acting by William Holden. He won the Oscar for best actor. Robert Strauss and Harry Lembeck are blazingly funny as 2 other POW's along with Holden. The movie is set in a German prison camp during WWII a week before Christmas. Holden is suspected of being a nazi spy living with the POW's. He's not, but he's going to find out who is. The other prisoner's have already beaten him and and taken some of his possessions. Definitely the best POW movie ever. The DVD has no "special" features such as behind the scenes or information about the cast. It does have scene selection, Dolby Digital, and English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impared. This DVD is the "Standard version" aspect ratio. The movie came out in 1953 when the movie studios were going to "Widescreen" but I think it was shot before they adapted. So this DVD is basically how it looked in the theatre. The transfer to DVD is great. It looks as if they restored it some. This is definitely one for your DVD collection.

Summary: My Favorite Billy Wilder Movie!
Review: Billy Wilder has made quite a few CLASSICS in his long career, but this one is my favorite. Set around Christmas in a Nazi WWII POW camp, the movie is filled with smart dialogue, endearing characterizations, and excellent acting by a fine group of actors. William Holden earned a well deserved oscar for his portrayal of a cynical POW that's suspected of being a nazi Spy. The movie seems like the inspiration for Hogan's Heroes, but more excellently executed. The movie holds up well to multiple viewings, so it is a great addition to any collection!

Summary: A great movie
Review: Film critics and historians consistantly rate Jean Renoir's "Grand Illusion" as one of the greatest movies of all times, but Wilder's "Stalag 17" is it's equal. A distinctly American take on themes of imprisonment and escape, it features all the elements that characterize our country; cocky, cynical, sentimental, energetic, resourceful. A stunning performance by Holden. He matched it, but never surpassed it. Also, one of the greatest Christmas movies ever made; a story of deliverence. More than worth the price.

Summary: Great movie
Review: After looking at Stalag 17. You wonder if the television show, "Hogan's Heroes" got it's idea from the movie. Some of William Holden's best work.

Summary: I'd consider buying this film. In fact, I already have.
Review: OH yes. Indeed this is a good film. I may even deem it worthy of purchase. The atmosphere was good, as well as the photography, but I especially liked the story. I'd recommend it to any fellow film buffs who happen to be out there. Quit possibly William Holden's best role. I believe this is without a doubt, the best Billy Wilder film (at least that I've seen anyway). I didn't care for "Double Indemnity" at all. Not that it was a bad movie. I was pleased by this film.
