Rating: Summary: a good perspective! very clever Review: The perspective of this movie was wonderful=) the American solders' experience on D-Day looked like footage I've seen of the actual beach it took place on several documentaries. And it all felt very realistic! Spielberg did an amasing job of bringing the war to the big screen! I read some reviews others had writen on this film and a lot of different oppinions=) I don't really know what to think of this movie if I'd try to really compare with how the actual D-Day felt, you have to have been there! I really hate the whole idea of war! And I guess I saw this movie as a great tribute to those who fought and died in the WW2! I think the choice of this particular perspective of a small group of solders asked to save one man was perfect in showing viewers the questions solders actually constantly obsessed about during the war! it really gives us an inkling of how difficult it is to understand meaning of war, what you had to sacrifice! I mean the awful choices that had to be made! trying desperatly to believe what they're doing is right? My grandfarther was fighting to defend Finland during WW2 against Russia, and he cries about every now and then... A hell I can't possibly understand, a hell that finally ended in relief of Freedom for many... but a trail of tears and blood was the price
Rating: Summary: Making Up For Amistad. Review: First thing's first, Amistad was not Spielberg at his best. He did try though. Saving Private Ryan was an excellent comeback. However, and I know this is going to upset many, I think it's screenplay was a tad light on character development. That's all, no other criticism, because I think it's a classic war film, and it certainly is a must have for any film collector. Spielberg didn't flinch in showing us just how war was and is. This is right up there with Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Schindler's List.
Rating: Summary: THE DIFFERENCE OF DTS Review: Although I watched this film in cinema, I never realized that I would enjoy it this much in DTS version. The first 20-25 minutes and the last 15-20 minutes of the film hit me as if I were on the actual battle field. I strongly recommend DTS to anyone who is on the edge of setting up a home cinema system.
Rating: Summary: One of the all time great war movies Review: This has to be one of the most intense and riveting war movies ever. The story and characters were great. I really don't understand the negative reviews of this movie. I especially can't see how anyone can compare this film with the terrible "Thin Red Line", which tries to tell you that 19-20 year old G.I.'s were all into philosophy. "Saving Private Ryan" gave me renewed respect for the soldiers that fought and died during the war.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: "Saving Private Ryan." This comment is short but to the point. Great movie, great story, and a film to go into history as a milemarker for the 90's
Rating: Summary: Do you even know who Spielberg is? Review: I hate to brake this to you clem, but Spielberg did not direct any one of the movies you mentioned in your review. Maybe you should actually watch a Spielberg movie(such as "Jaws") before you critize him.
Rating: Summary: Must Have DVD ! Review: If you had only one demo DVD to show off your system this would be it. On top of that the film is an all time winner of true war realizm. Buy it. Buy it now!
Rating: Summary: GREAT SOUND EFFECTS Review: The opening sound effects at the beach when water splash was incredible! I wish moviemakers put more sound effects like this in movies. I've watched this one in DTS format and needless to say I'm thrilled! Landing on the beach scene is far too realistic and incredible! Overall story is not bad!
Rating: Summary: saving private ryan Review: it was a great movie
Rating: Summary: With WW2 spielberg makes a P.U Review: "~I have never been a fan of Spielberg, Most of his films such as, Field of dreams, Star wars, and Forest Gump strike me as trivial and nationalistic. This film is like all his rest. In other words I feel that Mr. Spielberg is quite simply one big Honky, who makes honky films for Honkies. This film is awful and dangerously over praised. Ed Burns is the cinematic equivalent of an almond joy bar, without the almonds or the joy. take a shining to.
