Summary: bad film for dummies to enjoy
Review: Seeing all the glowing reviews for this terrible cliched film made me depressed. It just shows how no one appeaciates good art-they just want to be spoon fed easy, linear-minded, John-Grisham meets WW 2 storytelling. Orson Welles is rolling in his grave to know what movie making has come to. But for a funny review that is right on, check out the link and think about it...

Summary: Outstanding
Review: This DTS edition is a must see for any mature person. This horific film shows the horrors of war and what our grandparents went through. This film can't be compared to any other films because it is so well done. It is not a "movie" but a window into what war is really like. It does not make war, in any way, seem positive but seems to explain the unsurpassed bravery of all those young men who died for us and our freedom. Just as they died for us, so has Christ died for us and OUR FREEDOM from satan. He saved us and bought us at a high price. All we have to do is accept his gift to us. Thank you Jesus and God Bless.

Summary: DVD not the best quality but movie is 5 stars
Review: "Saving Private Ryan" is a 5 star movie but this DVD version is substandard. There are a few instances during the heavy fighting after the guys get past the beach and start fighting the Germans and the fire sequences STREAK and have STRIPES, LINES and BANDS on the screen while watching the movie. It is a poor quality and shoddy transfer of the film - I'm sure that there was a huge batch of these DVDs that got past quality control and I was just very unlucky because I bought this in October, 2003, sent it back for replacement, and the second one is as bad as the first - It was exactly the same with all the same imperfections. So, I just gave up and kept it. I saw the movie at the theater and on TV and never remember these flaws in the movie. It's very noticeable and irritating but once those scenes are over, the DVD is OK and the quality is great. I would like to know if I'm the only person that received a poor transfer of this DVD because it's really strange to receive 2 separate DVDs with the same defect. So, because of my experience with this movie, I recommend you wait and buy the new version coming out on May 25, 2004 called: "Saving Private Ryan (D-Day 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition)". I wish I had waited but never knew this newer version was coming out.

Summary: Good action no depth
Review: I recall one reviewer saying that ol' Steve has the mind of a child and that I'd have to agree with. Larded with cliches and a terrible maudlin score (cue the emotion- start weeping when the old man who waddles like a duck does)this is overall a terrible movie with a terrible message. Basically it says nothing that hasn't been said a thousand times before. The effects are thrilling and "shocking" but that is all. The dialogue is meager at best and the characters are a bunch of cliches and Tom Hanks is the good old boy who wants to get home to his wife. Can we be more predictable? I've gotten in arguments with people over this crapfest of a film, and generally when they really think about this movie and the points I've made, their only defense is that "but it has good special effects." My response? So what. If you recreate the most famous battle in US history and have a point of view that no one will disagree with, then everyone will love it. And this is why old Steve is a horrible director- because he does not trust his audience's intellect. And really, who can blame him? Everyone eats this s**t up. One of the most favorite things to do is to conflate sentiment with quality. Agree with the sentiment then you must have a good movie, right? Wrong! Watch this film for the special effects and that is all. Don't expect any depth ar anything to really be said that hasn't been said before by superior film makers. This is the worst war film ever made, if for nothing else- for that damn old man weeping at the grave site and asking his wife to "tell him he is a good man." Please pass the barf bag. No one will remember this film in 50 yrs because Steve sux. That s**t like this passes for high art is an abomination. I'd rather watch Dude, where's my car? At least that doesn't take itself seriously, where this film attempts to be DEEP but is only cliched garbage.

Summary: Steven Spielburg and Tom Hanks:greatest war storytellers
Review: This, along with band of brothers, stands testament to the men who fought in WWII, with excellent visuals, sound, story and acting, this is one of the best movies of all times.
Note: Speilburg and Hanks also made Band of Brothers, which is no coincidence

Summary: AGEAN STABLES ....
Review: Immensely powerful, melancholy and fit for one viewing [repeated viewings just dull the senses and remove the impact]. Tremendous tech credits - especially the sound design and the editing of the first 20 minutes ......

Storyline? "Bring Him Back Alive" - standard fare for the adventurer, but just one of so many deeds - unspoken - during WW11.

Better fare? Care Foreman's "THE VICTORS" [WW2 - from all sides] also Claude Le Louche "Marriage" [1974], "The Bridge", and even "The Longest Day" ~ but not forgetting the indelible "The Young Lions".

Summary: An Amazing War Story
Review: The story captures your heart as they, Capt. Miller and his men, journey through a difficult struggle to save one man, Prvate Ryan. As they travel through a German occupied area you reach out and feel the character of each individual person. You see just a small taste of D-Day right at the beginning and then things carry out the dramatization. Spielberg has created a masterpierce that should be commended in years to come, it's heartfelt and true for what it really is. I love the film, it truly is inspiring.

Summary: I was moved very much.
Review: I have watched a lot of movies in war movies, [Private Ryan} is the one of the best movies that I was moved. Since I am younger in additon to Japanese, I have not known about D-DAY very much.

And I have thought ever that D-DAY is USA military's overwhelming victory to Germany. But in the intro of this movie, the thinking that I have held was reversed, that is, the scene was USA's tragedy that USA was assulted from Germany in hills when USA landed in Ohama beach. Because I had the question that the story was truth? I examined about Ohama War in inter-net. And I understood that the tragedy was truth. I was very surprised.

And I was very surprised about that the movie's making skill was wonderful. For instance,to the bullet's sound effect in the landing scene of Ohama I very surprised. The sound was very real. As if I existed in Ohama. Concretly the bullet's repeling sound to miritary's protecter, and explosion sound of bombs.

Not only intro's Ohama scene but also in last scene I was moved very much, that is, an offensive and derfensive battle in the bridge. That scene was very real. Especally the scene that a tank come in the town where USA force hided. The skill of making film, that is, in farst I heared the caterpillar's sound of the tunk and in next heared the talking sound of Germany's militaly, and finally in far place the shadow of the tunk..
For the moment that the tunk was coming, since I was very nervous I sweated very.

The movie makers must have known about techniques how to take a film for exciting audiences. incredible.

From first to last, that was a movie that I was moved.

Thank you for reading my poor English.
