Summary: On DVD November 9, 1999
Review: If you're going to watch this film, watch it in widescreen. Or even better, Netflix lists the DVD as being released on November 9, 1999. DVDExpress list extras including the theatrical trailer and additional footage. Hopefully this includes the cut French Plantation scene which currently only exists on the barely viewable 5 hour workprint.

Summary: this isn't a bubble gum, shoot'em up movie...
Review: this movie requires intelligence to piece together Coppola's masterpiece. this movie is at stanley kubrick quality. even the way the Door's "The End" weaves throughout the movie deserves 5 stars... How could someone say that the ending is weak? It ISN'T VISUAL! It should blow you away mentally... if it doesn't, it went over your head. This movie is very quotable too.

Summary: The Greatest Ever
Review: So many movies have been made about the Vietnam War, however few even come close to the quality of this classic picture. Great performances by Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando set the movie apart from similar war time flicks. However it is the performance of Robert Duvall as a helicopter squadron leader that sets this film as the greatest amoungst it's counterparts. A film that must be seen by all.

Summary: Oh get real!...
Review: What on earth was this??? This is one of those movies which makes you wanna bang your head on the wall. First of all, there are no opening credits! What's the point of that? Secondly, the movie seems like it's taking place on a totally different world. The beginning and end of the film is really dull. The only good parts are the extremely well made war scenes, which only last a few minutes. Other than that, don't waster ur time watching this film.

Summary: THIS IS NOT A WAR MOVIE!!!!
Review: This movie is a brilliant adaption of The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The war is merely a vehicle to show a man's descent into the realm of everything that is ugly inside him and the insanity lurking, and more easily than not being expressed, in all those around him. Read the book, watch the movie, learn something. (By the way, in an interview, Robert Duvall talks about the time he spent with the Helicopter pilots, and what a truly insane group of machismos they were. Yes, they did surf on the beach during enemy fire!) If you can walk away from this movie unchanged, you're dead. And how do you walk, being dead?

Summary: great movie!!
Review: This is one of the best movies i've ever seen! It was a little hard to understand for me. But i still liked it a whole bunch. If you ever have a chance to see this movie, do so! You'll thank your self!

Summary: Shows the madness of war, but is incredibly inaccurate
Review: Apocalypse Now isn't particularly a combat war film like Saving Private Ryan and Platoon. Instead, like Full Metal Jacket and The Deer Hunter, it slowly shows the effects war has on the soldiers even when they're not in combat. It works well in the film, but it's incredibly inaccurate about the war. For example, American soldiers never had a playmate party beside a river on a very large platform. They also aren't obsessed with surfing. The performances are all around good. I still thought The Deer Hunter was a much better film.

Summary: Several movies within a movie
Review: The neat thing about A.N. is that you can watch the first half of it and still have seen 2 or three decent movies. It captures things about our big blunder that need to be remembered.
