Summary: plattoon
Review: This is one of the best war movies I have ever seen. And by the review list of others im not the only one who thinks this. I just bought my dvd player and this was the first movie on my list to buy, but was in rage when I found out that it was discontinued. I just wonder who the intelligent one was that made this dicision. when this movie was such a blockbuster.I think that they should think about discontinuing the man that made this dicision. still a great movie cant say enough. glad iI bought it in vhs when it was available. Thanks for the comment!

Summary: Platoon
Review: This is definitly one of the top 3 American Vietnam movies (OddAngry shot, Australian)along with Apocalypse Now and The Green BeretsI think this has covered the levels of sentiment towards the war and the countrys involvement very well. Although I was not in the American services I did serve 20 years in the Canadian Forces and I can sort of understand how Chris was torn between the two Sgts. The everyday struggle with boredom and foolish orders could only be compounded by fearsome and confusing fights, watching the others in the platoon try just to stay alive while still maintaining some of your own values that you have been raised on and are still trying to fit into this new and obviously confusing conflict. I have almost wore out my VHS copy and really wish i could get a DVD copy... All in all an EXCELLENT MOVIE.

Summary: This is an EXCELLENT movie!
Review: I am not one for war movies, but I must say that this one is exceptional. The movie keeps the viewer plastered to the screen from start to finish. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to learn more about the Vietnam War.

Summary: Vietnam soldiers were NOT like this.
Review: I spent a tour in Vietnam from '68-'69 and honestly cannot say much good about Stones' depiction of US soldiers. (Note: Stone's ridiculous movie 'Nixon' was roundly criticized as inaccurate. Stone responded with some comment that he was in the business of 'creating history'.) Stone is attempting a brainwashing operation here against the American public. Platoon depicts the oppressive atmosphere of Vietnam well, but his characterizations of the Troops and their interrelations are completely false. 'Platoon' relates to the Vietnam War as a sort of reverse propaganda effort. Kind of like an 'anti-GungHo' flick. The best sort of an anti-war flick is an accurate movie like 'Saving Private Ryan' or 'Hamburger Hill' not this sort of commie-prop that Stone has as his life's mission.

Summary: Must have DVD
Review: If you liked this film at all, don't pass up the DVD version. It has an excellent documentary on it, almost as good as the documentary for The Abyss. Plus two commentary tracks, one by Oliver Stone, which is average, and a truly great track by Capt. Dale Dye (the white-haired guy who had a small role as the commander). Get this DVD while you still can!

Summary: One of the greatest war movies of our time.
Review: Platoon has to be one of, if not the best accounts of the viet nam war. It shows what the war was really about and the horror that is war. I can not understand why we the public can not have access to this movie on dvd. It may have been less than perfect but the studio can certainly remedy those small problems. Is this what the studio does to an acadamy award picture. Rather than fix it they just put it on the shelf to collect dust. Its a shame that we of the viet nam generation and those that did not live through this war can not have the privilage of viewing it.

Summary: Great movie - not necessarily a great DVD
Review: While I really enjoy Platoon (as much as I can enjoy any gut-wrenching, emotionally draining movie), this is not the DVD it could be - which may be part of the reason it was removed from the market.

The picture, especially the dark scenes have lots of grain (still MUCH better than VHS, however). The commentary track and extras are very nice though. There is talk of a re-release but possibly without the commentary tracks, etc. With a remastered picture, this would be the cornerstone of any war picture collection.

Summary: Kind of movie that'll make a tough guy sad
Review: This is movie is on my top 10 list of the greatest movies of our time. The drama and action in "Platoon" creates a perfect movie about Vietnam. This is the only movie that you'll see Charlie Sheen acting very good. The role is perfect for him.

Summary: Why can't we buy it ???
Review: Seems to me that a "big outfit" like Amazon.com could get the studio to produce this video for sale. This video is the best one ever made about the Vietnam war and should be made available for sale. The movie is as close as it gets to showing people what it was really like in Vietnam for the average soldier that served their time there.
