Summary: Self indulgent and dishonest -- "feel good" in the worst way
Review: I can't imagine who would like this except people who desperately need to believe that the Holocaust wasn't all that bad -- that all a father needed to do save his son's life was be quick witted and full of love. Every single testimony of what the death camps were like says the same thing -- there was nothing you could do to save yourself or anyone else. Survival was random. "Life is Beautiful" isn't a fairy tale; it's a pathetic delusion. Touching, perhaps, in it's sad attempt to re-write history to make it rosy and to defend the phrase "life is beautiful." Life may be beautiful, but the Holocaust was not, but you wouldn't know it from this strange, depressing film.

Review: This movie is the quintessential of all the movies I have ever seen. It's the supreme movie for 1999 and 1998 and I would whole-heartedly pick this movie for best movie over Saving Private Ryan and definetly over the pitiful Shakespeare in Love. Life is Beautiful combines all emotions; and, not only makes you laugh and cry, but it makes you think about how much we should cherish life as Benigni did in this movie. I gave this movie five stars, but it deserved many, many more. This movie's message appeals to all cultures, basically sumarized in the title itself: Life is Beautiful. This is displayed through the charm of the acting and the story. I applaud Benigni and I wouldn't say this if I didn't truly cherish this movie...all six times that I have seen it!!!

Review: I like this movie because it's so funny and yet it's also so very, very serious. It deals with the holocaust but yet you can laugh all you want because it's a comedy, you know? Plus that Roberto Begnini is so cute. I could go for him. I also like this movie because it's a foreign film, so liking it makes me feel sophisticated.

Review: During the Acadamy Awards this year Hollywood was greeted by a truly amazing surprise... money and glamor is not needed to make a masterpiece. Life is Beautiful is a simple film...no special effects, dramatic action or heart-straining adventure...the movie is simply a portrayal of the poweverful meaning of love. It truly touches the heart and brings both laughter and tears to anyone. How often do you see a gang of highschool teens, an elderly couple, and young moms and dads all laughing and crying together? The film is, of course, all in Italian, the lovely language complements the film and is a perfect background melody. I truly recommend this film, not only because of its genuine, deep meaning but also because it helps the human soul escape from the daily troubles of life and to notice that Life truly is Beautiful.
