Summary: Patriotism bordering on Nationalism
Review: Whenever a movie claims to be based on a true story, BEWARE. This movie is classic US propaganda. America is all alone in the world and can rely on no one but itself. Even when we try to help another country, they hate us. The individual is all, damn the big picture. For every US soldier killed or wounded, about 100 of the enemy have to die. The enemy is just that, the enemy: pure evil, no shade of grey. I do give this movie 2 stars because the action is non-stop and it isn't a boring movie to watch. Also, it's one of those movies that is so bad it is almost good. If only the realities of the "ethnic cleansing" in Bosnia weren't so tragic.

Summary: An overlooked OK movie gets a great audio transpher DVD.
Review: This movie came and went at the movie theater and now it's coming to DVD.

The movie is nothing speacial but it's also nothing short of a good time with some good action sequences. Owen Wilson plays a cocky, but always loveable, jet piolt who's never seen action and who's tired of it all. Gene Hackman doesn't sweat at all playing his caption in charge. One day Owen goes on a survey flight and treds of course and snaps a few pictures on a group of "people" getting rid of corpeses; the people shoot him down....and now he's behind enemy lines and on the run from the enemy. All in all it's a good mindless fun popcorn guzzuling flick.

If this sounds like your bag then don't wait to buy it if your sceptical then rent it.

A great plus on the DVD is the DTS track and this DVD is a must if you want to showoff your sound system. The track is great and shows off some impressive bass from the missle envaison part....if anything....this is the reason to own this DVD.

Summary: Great War Flick
Review: I was pleasantly surprised when I walked out of this movie . I enjoyed it immensely. My sentiments was share by my 11 year old nephew . It did not try to be something it was not. It is a war movie and that is what it was filmed as.

The movie itself was film quite well with it's use of special effects and scenery with some of the beautiful landscape of the county used for plot line purposes.

I also enjoyed the fact that they did not try to put a romance in a war movie were it did not belong

All in all this was a great movie and will enjoy watching it over and over

Summary: Please don't bother
Review: I don't ordinarily write reviews, but even as a straight-up action movie this was so horrible, such an insulting waste that I feel compelled to discourage you from seeing it.

Owen Wilson is a good actor but does not fit here at all; he comes across more as a goofy weakling than a determined adventure-seeker. Humor often falls flat. Almost all of the characters are one-dimensional, but of course this is intended as just an action movie... with below-average action sequences. Yes, even the action sequences are poorly done, with wildly overused and almost nauseating handheld shots and an expressionless villain who's ultimately just "silly". The mine field and final action scenes in particular reminded me of the Rambo scene from "UHF" (the phrase "I'm huntin' wabbits!" suits to describe the suspense of the chase). The only two bright points included a convincing but unoriginal Gene Hackman commander and a fighter jet sequence early on, which is actually very well done.

Please do yourself a favor and don't support work like this, a mockery to the very serious concept of genocide. They'll only make more like it if you do.

Summary: They dropped the ball...
Review: This movie had every chance to succeed: A great trailer; Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman; a John and Jim Thomas (Predator, Executive Decision) script; a budget of $40 mil. But for all this, the whole is decidedly less than the sum of it's parts. What happened?

Well for one thing, Owen Wilson was all but wasted in his role as Lt. Barnett. No chances to utilize the deft comic touch he's displayed in Shanghai Noon and Zoolander. All he had to do in this film was run from guys shooting at him, and while he does that effectively, what's the point? I wish that he had been given the freedom to do more with the role.

Meanwhile Gene Hackman essentially reprises the same role that he had in Crimson Tide, then as a sub captain, now a ship admiral. Though it is a role his fills well, it's not as interesting anymore. Also, "Enemy Lines" strains plausibility more than even the most unbelievable flag-waving war film...the scene where he hides in a graveyard of corpses with the enemy literally walking over him was especially ludicrous.

And I found myself annoyed by much of director John Moore's camera work. Obviously he's yet another commercial director, based on the frenetic herky-jerky camera work on display here. Can't these guys just hold the camera still and let the action unfold, as opposed to trying to create the action with a bunch of quick cuts and shaky shots?

I really wanted this movie to be good, and just because it's better than most of the mediocrity released last year, that's still no excuse. It could've been much more.

Perhaps the true test of a movie's worth: I will not be buying this one when it is available on DVD.

Summary: AWESOME MOVIE!
Review: This movie rocked! The whole disinchanted Navy Pilot, gets a lesson in the value of being, an American , and a member of the Armed Forces works well. Owen Wilson's character grows up fast, and in war-torn Bosnia he has no choice. Gene Hackman turns in another fine performance, as Wilson's CO. The part where he starts talking to Wilson over the radio to get his pilot to calm down, and collect himself works well. Being in the military I wouldn't have moved during the daytime, and if I could help it would have tried to avoid that booby trapped area. Look past that stuff, sit back, and take a military action adventure ride Hollywood Style!

Summary: Action Packed War Movie
Review: This movie has a great plot, tense situations, and unbelieveable cinamentography (I don't know if I spelled that right). Any way, this is a great war movie that I highly recomend to people who like to watch movies without the possibility of Dozing. Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman do a [great] job in this one of a kind film!

Summary: Gee, I wonder what Owen Wilson is like in a serious role...
Review: Very simple plot. A US Navy fighter jet pilot and his navigator (Owen Wilson) decide to have some fun and veer off the designated flight path during a reconnaissance mission. Unfortunately, they fly into restricted airspace over Bosnia where they get shot down. ...But he is behind enemy lines during a cease-fire peace agreement. Pursued by rebel Serbian forces, and a ruthless mercenary hired by the Serbs to clean up this mess, Wilson must fight for survival while his commanding officer (Gene Hackman) plots a daredevil rescue... P>If you watch this film with the expectation that it is simply an action film (where the believability of the plot isn't too important), and a nagging thought of "Wouldn't it be great if we could see Owen Wilson in a serious role for once?" or "I wonder what Owen Wilson is like in a serious role?" Then this film is for you.

Summary: Everything not to do in a wartime situaion
Review: This has to be one of the most worthless movies I have ever seen: everything not to do in a wartime situation. The only thing that could have made this movie worse was if the hotshot, buck-the-system fighter jock would have fallen, twisting his ankle because he was wearing high heels on his mission, while trying to get away from the bad guy... Absolutly worthless.

Summary: Whizbang action meets . . . well, yeah, more whizbang action
Review: I'm a sucker for war and action movies, I go see them all, so naturally I was eager to view Behind Enemy Lines. And I have to say it is the best straight-action movie I have seen in a long time. Not since the days of The Rock and Face/Off has there been an action movie with such class as what it is . . . an action movie. Sure, there have been other action movies coming out by the truckloads, including the likes of Gladiator and The Matrix, but they all try and reach deeper, most of the time successfully, and go beyond the action. BEL doesn't tend to do that, with the exception of Owen Wilson stubbling into that mass grave, it's just a fun movie from beginning to end.
