Summary: Powerful but lacking
Review: It was a good idea to make a movie about a small but bloody conflict that was heard about in 1992-93 but was almost forgotten by the people. Black Hawk Down may be the only movie ever made explaining about the U.S. intervention into the Civil War of Somalia but most of the movie shows nothing but endless gunfights leading to several U.S. soldiers getting wounded and killed, which is sometimes shown in a tragic, dramatic form. The movie is pretty much accurate compared to the actual event in history but just because the movie shows an almost complete accuracy doesn't mean it is going to have a lot of positive praise. Sure, I think this movie was good, it teaches you a little history, showing that the U.S. has tried to help African countries by military aid, the gunfights were cool, seeing how a Delta Force makes a raid was interesting, and the movie doesn't only put it through the American prespective, but also, a little bit through the Somali prespective also. The thing Black Hawk Down was lacking was the acting. There's not much conversation between the soldiers since they put so much emphasis on what the battle actually looked like and what the harrowing experience was like. Then there's the characters. There are so many people in the movie and it is kind of hard to keep track on who's who in the battle. Minus one star for that. Overall, the movie is good, if it won two Oscars for Sound and Best Film Editing, then it's got to have cool sound and the filming has to be well developed. This movie is not recommended for children, because of the graphic violence and the language but wait until they are at least 12-13 and are willing to deal with all this terrible stuff, learn about history and war, and just enjoy the cool gunfights. Just don't let your girlfriend watch this movie unless she likes these types of movies.

Summary: Hollywood finally got it right!
Review: This movie follows the book word for word. The attention to detail is amazing, I felt like I was back in the army! Having known close friends who served in Somalia, I wanted this movie to be accurate...to tell their story right. This movie does just that. Many people who never served in the military may have a tough time appreciating this film. But EVERYONE that I know that served in the military and has watched this movie thought that it was excellent, accurate, and true to life. I recommend this movie to all prior servicemen, you won't be let down.

Summary: The most disturbing and realisitic movie ever made
Review: When I first saw this movie it almost brought me to tears. It is the most realisitic war movie I have ever seen in my life. A lot of people say that it lacked a storyline, but for a movie that's based on real life events, the lack of a storyline reminds the viewer that all this really happened.

Review: All I have to say is that one viewer's review stated that Black Hawk Down was nothing more than pure senseless shooting. Hey, guess what, I think that accurately describes modern warfare. After all, capturing the brutality of it all is Ridley Scott's intent, and he comes through.

Summary: Now, it's actually underrated!
Review: Despite getting spots on the top ten lists of Roger Ebert, Time magazine, Joel Siegel, and USA Today, and receiving two academy awards, I think it's safe to say Black Hawk Down is actually pretty underrated. There have been a hell of a lot of complaints about the lack of character development from so many audiences, and many people claiming there's nothing particularly special about this film. Guess what? Do these same people realize they're not even actually reviewing the film on the basis for what it is, meaning as pure combat? Of course the movie's not going to have that much plot. The only true interest director Ridley Scott has going on here is to show what it's like to have hundreds of bullets coming at you from all directions from enemy fire you can't make out clearly. Scott elects to focus on forty different people. Considering the huge cast, I would say character development here is actually pretty good, certainly I knew enough to find several of them likeable. So if you're going to complain about this film, please then, do so on the basis of what this movie's aiming for, meaning its ability to put you in the center of combat. If it completes this task, then you have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Review: The real WAR drama so don't ever think to see any Love Scene and lots of Songs (It's not "Moulin Rouge" bru;p) story line bit confusing 'coz surely it's impossible to put all story in the book in 2 hrs movie ... so yup, must see this one if you have a brain to think ;p

Summary: This is an outstanding movie
Review: I've read some of the reviews by people who think this movie is meaningless. I'm not sure what they expected. Maybe an underlying love plot??? This is a very accurate film about actual events, not some Hollywood drama dreamed up by someone in their Beverley Hills Mansion. If it seems bloody, violent, repedetive, well... that's because that's how combat is. No this film is not for the faint of heart and I have to agree with the writer that said that the book was better. But the book always is. In this case, the book is able to provide a little more history as well as providing depth. Read the book and you will also better understand the soldiers involved. All in all, a very outstanding job at showing a mission that went horribly awry and the men who used their training and sheer guts to overcome the situation.

Summary: I'm hoping a special edition is in the works...
Review: I was afraid Bruckheimer might screw up the story of our heroic soldiers efforts like he did with Pearl Harbor and this whole movie would be nothing more than Hollywood pandering, but I was thankfully wrong. It is my sincere hope that this movie will serve to remind my generation that the military is not a means to a political end, but real people that serve their country out of respect and honor for it, and that they should be allowed to do their jobs as best they can. The fact that our troops were pulled from Somalia after this embarrasment instead of being allowed to stay and remove Aidid (who's own people welcomed our troops and the aid they brought to the people of Somalia, and then turned against us after United Nations meddling caused havoc in the region) only promotes the agenda of tinhorn dictators around the world. This film should serve as a testament to the lives that were lost in Somalia, and are continuing to be lost in service of their country around the world in our present war on terrorism.

Summary: Changed my opinion
Review: Well, I originally criticized this movie for unfairly representing the events which occurred in Somalia. I've concluded, however, that this was an elementary-level mistake. The purpose of the story was simply to show the American side of the events, not to glorify them. Even though I still hold that the Somalian side received the worst end of the deal (how couldn't they, with thousands dead?) I nonetheless have changed my ranking. The movie itself didn't really captivate me. The camerawork is great, as would be expected from director Ridley Scott. The acting is respectable, but nothing extraordinary. In my opinion, Black Hawk Down was a decent movie, nothing more and nothing less.

Summary: quite possibly the worst movie ever
Review: quite frankly, this was the worst movie i have ever seen in my life. i'm not a big fan of war-movies, but i don't usually mind them that much either. in this case, the film was horrendous. the re-telling of a war story is understandable, but the lengths that this movie went in trying to do that were too far.if this was supposed to be some kind of tribute to the soldiers who died, it wasn't much of one. i'd rank this movie as another "shoot-'em kill-'em" flick that hollywood seems to love producing. really, it got pretty old after the 300th person got shot, beaten to death, or blown up. the amount of blood, gore, severed body parts and operations using bare hands was completely disgusting. sure, the actors and directing were fine, but the amount of violence wasn't. i'm all for portraying reality, but i think this went to unnecessary extremes. why would anyone want to see this movie? do they like seeing people die? or just war itself? i've yet to figure it out.
