Summary: Close to the actual events
Review: ...This movie tries to depict the operation, the dangers, and the violence of the situation that these soldiers were in. Sorry if it wasn't a bloodless, antiseptic news story. It sticks close to the actions as described in the book, and it doesn't try to change the facts to make it more palatable for those that think that these kinds of conditions don't exist. Cudos to Ridley Scott for being faithful to the events, and the people, involved in this story.

Summary: Very Good, Realistic and True to Actual Events
Review: While films like Saving Private Ryan and Pearl Harbor were excellent, they used a fictional story against a historical backdrop. Blackhawk Down is all true. It follows the book's detailed account fairly well, much better than most book to movie projects. You don't here controversy over this film like ron howard's adaptation of A Beautiful Mind which was full of fakery. Blackhawk Down gives insight into what our military has to face, and how it overcame the odds in this battle.

Summary: BlackHawk Down
Review: The movie was surreal very much like the country and military situation of Somalia. When I first got there it was very exciting and the movie captured that. The story was told well and the tough spot the soldiers found themselves in. However, historically the worst attack was on June 5th, where 37 Peackeepers(Pakistanis and Italians) were killed and the city was just getting more, and more dangerous. Jounalists and soldiers called the place the "Suburbs of Hell" Excellant movie, finally some recognition.

Summary: So many unanswered questions
Review: Well I'm sure most people are familiar with the plot. However, to give a cursory overview the movie covers a US military operation in Somalia in which heavy casualties were inflicted on both sides of the war. The movie progresses at a fast pace with gripping action and excellent acting. The viewer feels embedded in the heart of the conflict and truly develops a feel for what the soldiers must have experienced.However the movie is missing some critical elements. Lip service is paid to the political motivations behind the military operations. Scant attention is paid to how US military officials could have so grossly underestimated enemy resources. I'd recommend the movie to anyone looking to see a great action film. However, if you're looking for a deeper understanding of what went on, you'll have to look at other sources.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: I'm usually not one for war movies but my family and I went to see this because my sister and I begged them to take us because Josh Hartnett was in it! We came out emotionally drained from all the emotion that was in this movie. I thought it was awesome! One thing is for sure you have to have a strong stomach for a couple bloody parts but other than that it was very very good. I'm so buying it when it comes out on DVD!

Review: At last the producer of this movie, generally known as producing only brainless action movies (but with high profit), lend his money to a very good movie, based in a book. The cast is marvellous. Very good movie. It's not a patriotic movie, because it shows the details of a failed operation. Failed at its planning, failed at its execution, failed at everything. It achieved nothing, and Clintn removed Americans frm Somalia. His reasoning was right: if the Somalis want to kill themselves and starve themselves, it's their problem.

Summary: Fantastic adaptation of an amazing book!
Review: This movie is a great depiction of the fantastic book written by Mark Bowden, which I would recommend reading before viewing the movie. This movie is gut-wrenching at times, and the violence is more powerful than any war movie I have ever seen. The acting is very good considering the amount of characters that are introduced in such a short period of time. The plot is very well written, and Scott's direction of such young stars as Hartnett, McGregor, and Bana is truly something to be witnessed in this riveting, awe-inspiring picture.

Summary: Shows what our boys do when we are asleep
Review: ...This movie shows what our finest do all the time. It was the best I have ever heard and seen. All of the family members and mine went together to see the movie. I dont think there will ever be a better movie than this. I wish I could hugg my farher and say "thanks" to him and all those Rangers and Delta guys we lost. If youn ever seen this, you are missing the best movie. THANKS US DELTA FORCE/US RANGERs...

Summary: Monument to the Courageous or to the Inept?
Review: It often seems that moments of courage are a result of military expedience predilected by military ineptness. How a general could ever let his men enter a maze-like city surrounded by thousands of hostile inhabitants is beyond comprehension. Sam Shepard as that general exceeded the scope of his mission and his command putting his men in harm's way in broad daylight. Ridley Scott seems uniquely capable of ferreting out the military decisions that led to this debacle but places no blame. However, all the blame is up there on the screen if you choose to take note similar to the way Sam Shepard watches it on his TV monitor. Scott instead places the viewer into a 180-degree maelstrom of bullets, bombs, shrapnel, blood, sweat and tears. In 160 years of technology it is amazing how some of the images are reminiscent of the last stand at the Alamo. What has been learned in all those years? Every good war film needs a hero and Tom Sizemore gives the best performance as one hardened and dedicated officer. The most interesting shot in this film is where a tired and weary group of Americans finally emerge from the city covered in dirt, gunpowder, blood and grease and they are greeted by foreign United Nations troops wearing turbans. These UN fellows offer the Americans glasses of water served from silver trays with white linen napkins draped over their arms. So much for modern technology it would seem.

Summary: Very well done, excellent all around
Review: What can I say? This movie opens your eyes to what modern soldiers go through (especially in an urban battlefield) the exact same way Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers did to let us see what the men, who were then only eighteen or nineteen (JUST ONE YEAR OLDER THAN ME!!) went through in Europe and the Pacific sixty years ago. This movie isn't racist like so many people say it is. Even though there isn't much, the movie does portray the Somali people as humans, not as black savages that so many say it shows them to be. They are doing what many Americans would do if a foreign army came to our country, fighting. And the American soldiers are also doing what they were trained to do, protect themselves and their comrades. There is no racist theme that this movie tries to push across to the audience, nothing saying that all Somali's are evil, so don't even start with that argument. It's very well acted, even though no single character stands out because there are so many. The special effects are mind blowing. The sights and sounds of the film make it feel like you are there (though who would really want to be there). And of course there is the idea behind the film. It isn't a recruiting tool from Washington like I've heard alot about. It isn't a movie about American superiority. Though there will be many young men and women who will walk out of this movie wanting to be able to say that they were so close to someone that they would die and then go to the nearest Army or Marine recruiting office. And many will come out feeling so good to be American (I'm one of those). The real idea is telling of the friendship that can only be formed in battle. I recommend this to anyone over fifteen years old.
