Summary: Special Edition coming soon?
Review: Ridley Scott has publicly stated that he would like to work on a Special Edition of Black Hawk Down.Remember this what Ridley Scott has stated not Columbia Pictures. If a Special Edition does come out expect it to have commentary, documentaries about the film and real life, and many other things. If Ridley Scott he will probably give a rebate to those who purchased the previous version like i have since alot of people already have bought the first edition.

Summary: greatest war movie ever
Review: ...I thought this movie was excellent. It captured the realism of war with alot of brutal andd realistic violence, everyone in this film did a great job.Ridley Scott should of wn best director, and the film should of won best picture. The action sequences are great, the best i have ever seen.I like the fact that the film is non-stop war with so much violence.I felt this is atribute to all the american soldier's who lost their lives that day...i felt that this film is patriotic because just like the people who lost their lives on 9/11 the soldier's in real life are 100% heroes.

Summary: Not Bad!
Review: I walked into the theatre with my best intellectual armor on against typical hollywood hype. I'm always skeptical of any movie that's advertising scheme consists of firey explosions, adorable faces, and dramatically stunning music. And in this case I was especially on my guard. I read the book 'Black Hawk Down' (an excellent reporter's account I thought) while I was serving as a Black Hawk pilot in Kosovo. Although my experiences with flying this film's name-sake cannot compare to the trials of the men this movie depicts, I did feel a certain vested interest to protect the integrity of Hollywood's version of a real story involving real people that I know.

That being said, I have to applaude this film. As much as I wanted to leave the theatre in a rant about this, that, and the other, I found myself pleasantly surprised. I was impressed first and foremost with the accuracy of the movie according to the book and various other articles I have read about the events of that day. But what impressed me the most is something that hit a little closer to home. The Black Hawk scenes, especially the crash sequences, are disturbingly accurate. What happened to those three crews that day is every helicopter crew's greatest fear, and yet something only a very small handful have seen. It was realistic and respectful of our proffession. I almost want to thank the makers of this movie for not exploiting the truth of what really happened in these mens' lives that day.

Summary: A Simple Mission, Gone Horribly Wrong
Review: Ridley Scott has, in my opinion, had a great streak going with his recent films, "Gladiator," "Hannibal" and now "Black Hawk Down." The war scenes are some of the most intruiging in the past decade, ranked alongside war films such as "Saving Private Ryan." The war scenes are not the only great thing about this film.

The dilemma in Mogadishu, Somalia has been incredibly well depicted. American Rangers and Delta Force had greatly underestimated the Somalians. A one hour mission had taken beyond twelve in an attempt to leave no man behind. The musical score by Hans Zimmer is powerful and emotional at the same time while the cinematography is nothing nothing short of brilliantly realistic. The acting is superb, especially from the lead cast and a few memorable performances from the supporting cast.

This is a very important film. I urge you to see it if you do not mind excessive violence. This ranks among the most provacative and powerful war films I have seen in my lifetime. A simple mission gone horribly wrong, and it all begins with a Black Hawk Down.

Summary: BRILLIANT!
Review: Black Hawk Down was amazing. One of the best war films ever. The fighting dosent start untill about thirty minutes in to the film, then it is non-stop for about two hours. Ridley Scotts vision is awesome. This film captures the heroism and the emotion of what these soliers went through. In the future this film will no doubt be a classic.

Summary: A Reminder of why Humanitarian Efforts are a Waste
Review: This movie, whether it was the artist's intention, is a perfect depiction as to why humanitarian efforts are a waste of lives and money (in that order). Many have disagreed with the somewhat disjointed idea of Laissez Faire international relations of American politics, but this movie reminds us of why we (as a nation) should keep our 'ideals' out of the violent arena of civil war among nations with their own agendas. Let the 'Will to Power' of nations (and people) run its course, and an equilibrium will soon be reached.

Summary: Only a piece of the picture...
Review: "Black Hawk Down" is a good snapshot of what it's like to be in light infantry in what the Army euphemistically refers to as "Operations Other Than War." Very graphic in depicting what can happen when little things go wrong in these sorts of operations. However as a holistic story of what happened to the men of Task Force Ranger that Sunday night in Mogadishu, it's sadly incomplete. Little effort is made in setting up the stage as to why the Rangers were in Somalia, and it completely ignores the aftermath of the fight... even to the point of leaving you hanging and wondering if CW3 Durant ever got away from the Somalians :-(

As a shoot 'em up war movie, "Black Hawk Down" is hard to beat. If you're looking for the story of what happened in Somalia and the lessons that can be learned from that sad experience, skip the movie and get Bowden's book.

Summary: Glory...or Gory?
Review: This movie was in truth, a wonderful movie. It told the tale very well and was very well done. The effects were good, and the acting was wonderful, but there was so much blood and gore. It had so much blood that you really had to have a strong stomach, and a strong head. Yet it was emotional and perfect for a war film.

Summary: just buy it
Review: what a great movie. tons of action, tons of movie stars. lots of explosions and action!

it has a decent storyline abt a debacle in africa. must of had a billion extras in this movie. but anyways, storyline abt a mission goof up that cost the US rangers and delta force quite a bit of time to evacuate their forces that were stranded in hostile territory. realistic fight scenes and a glimpse into how the terrain and fighting might have looked like.
