Summary: Speechless
Review: I saw this movie listed on Roger Ebert's great movies list, so I decided to give it a try. I was expecting something along the lines of Princess Mononoke and was totally unprepared for the emotional impact of this movie and was still reeling days after. Who knew anime could be this powerful? Usually, when I think of anime, I think of something broad and over the top, but the power of this movie comes form its quiet little moments. Beautifully delicate stuff here. It's not only great anime, it's great cinema, period. No wonder why it's on Ebert's list.

Summary: Everything a movie should be...
Review: I'm sure that, if you're an anime fan, you've no doubt come across one of my reviews, and no doubt suspect that I only review things I think are garbage. Well, this is certainly a change of pace. This movie isn't about anti-american sentiments over WWII, even though that might be your first impression. Believe me, if you are a die hard patriot, you will still love this movie. This movie is about 2 children, abandoned by everyone, trying to survive in a war-torn land. It is told very masterfully, from start to finish, with good, thorough characters. Seita is your typical 14-year old kid, and his little sister, 4-year old Setsuko, is so cute in so many scenes that you'd almost wish she were your daughter, or your little sister. The movie allows you to truly feel the plight of these two in a way that no other movie I've ever seen. Excuse me for saying that that is the POINT of a good movie...to make you feel a connection to the characters. You, too, will no doubt laugh and cry as you journey with these 2 children, trying to find their place in a world that simply doesn't want them. When it's over, I believe you will either be crying very hard, or be holding the tears back so bad it causes you physical pain. I would recommend this movie as a date for any guy who wants to impress a girl with his sensitivity, and also for anyone who considers themselves human.

Summary: Even *MORE* Reviews by FreaK
Review: I ordered this movie because of its great reviews...and I anxiously awaited its arrival at my door. Once I got it, I popped it in the DVD player and watched it with my mom. I cried my eyes out...it was so sad. It made me think this thought...We never think about what will happen to the other country in a war...we never care. It is a great movie...I actually LEARNED stuff from it, while having fun too. This movie actually deserves more stars than 5. It is suitable for most audiences...theres a little bit of blood and some adult language.

Summary: I never know that anime can be this powerful
Review: I've heard about this movie for more than 10 years but never had the nerve to watch it. After reading all the reviews here and from other movie reviews, I ordered the DVD.
I think I know too much about the movie from the reviews so I didn't really cry while watching it. (Just to show that I am not heartless, I did cry at movies, such as Ikiru.) But this movie made me really quiet and sad for a long time.
The graphics is just fabulous. I've never seen any other animation that portraits a little girl's emotion and body language that well.
One of the best movies, anime or not.

Summary: omg the saddest movie I've ever seen in my life
Review: This is a traumatizing movie. I can't explain in words how you feel as you're watching it. For one thing it's not one of those movies that are sad, maybe cause you to shed a tear or two, but you realize "it's just a movie". This is not just a movie. It is possibly one of the greatest films of all time depicting war. A war that really happened with people that really suffered in it.

It begins with the two children escaping to a bomb shelter during an air raid...

Despite the painfully sad story, it's still wonderful. Yet it's hard to say this when you know that it is about two children suffering. It makes me feel like I'm saying I like that sort of thing, which I don't. Nontheless, this is a anime everone should see. I don't even mean just anime fans, it's something mankind should see to help them think twice about things like war.

Ok and now to get to the part I was avoiding so much. I did not just cry when I saw Grave of the Fireflies. I was bawling. From beginning to end there was something that completely just ripped my heart in half. The sense of lonliness, the sense of despair, the sense of helplessness, of wanting to give up but knowing you can't... Even after the credits were rolling, after someone else in my family had to take the darn thing outta my DVD player, I sat on the couch and cried. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I cried for at least ten minutes. Ugh I even woke up in the middle of the night and started crying. Yeah I'm the slightest bit emotional but not that emotional. That's just how big of an imapct this movie had on me.

Summary: This film WILL have a lasting effect on you.
Review: This film brought me to the edge of tears on may occasions, what makes it so heart-wrenching is the way that all the characters behave exactly as you would expect. No help from the blue, just total and utter plausability, making it cut so close to reality it draws something from you. The lasting effect that this film has had on me is the intro music, everytime I hear it all the hair on my arms and neck goes on end... I think that says more than words can.

Summary: WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH SNIFF SNIFF sniffle ok I¿m ready
Review: wow.

That's pretty sad. Whoa. Really sad. That reminds me I'm all out of kleenex.

Ok. Ahem. Grave of the fire flies is an amazing movie that should not be watched by those who can't handle sad movies. It's about a boy And a little girl who's parents got killed In WWII. They need to fend for themselves to survive.

The saddest part is the fact that it's all a Flashback. They start out dead. So whatever they do during the movie is all in vein. It doesnt't matter. WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

But it's very well done. Animation close to that of princess mononoke. Directed very well and the voice overs are done to perfection. (Sorry , Can't comment on the sub. version. Haven'y watched it yet.)

Grave of the fireFlies is an excellent story that everyone should watch.

P.S Grave of The fireflies is apropriate for most audiences. A little blood.

Review: just makes you want to cry! you'll love this peice of history. And if/when you see this one and you decide you like it (which you will) i advise you to check out the movie "Barefoot Gen",its just as good if not better (it's hard to find but its worth it).

Summary: Have your Kleenex on hand
Review: Grave of the fireflies is a sorrowful tale about a young boy and his baby sister trying to stay alive after the hiroshima bomb.
Educational and heartstopping.
A must see.

Summary: This movie will touch your heart
Review: The way the story is told and all the emotion in it is incredible. The music really brings out this emotion and the way a certain scene is suppose to feel. When you watch this movie your heart just goes out to them.
Their home is distoryed, their aunt mistreats them, life becomes hard, Seita is beaten, Setsuko is dying of starvation, and it just breaks your heart.
When I first watched this, it made me cry. This actually is actualley a true story. When you think about it, it's sad to think about many other Japanese children had to go threw this.
This movie is truley a master piece and deserves to be on everyone's shelf. I wouldn't recommend this to young children. They most likely wouldn't understand everything that was going on and some scenes might be to much for them.
