Rating: Summary: Bye Beta, bye Vhs, welcome DVD Review: For those people who are constantly taping movies, specially when receiving from a satellite dish, you notice how the quality diminishes completely when recorded on VHS, and until now, we had nothing else to do.So, for those who can afford this DVD recorder and the DVDs you'll have to record on later, this is a dream come true. I couldn't wait for another player, so this is what I chose, and I'm completely happy. A drawback is that I can't play CD-R.
Rating: Summary: does what it was designed to do nothing more/or less. Review: Having purchased this item,it seems to do exactly what it was designed to do,which is recording and editing of tape and broadcast material.Although this item does not play its recorded media on most other manufacturers DVD players,it posseses powerful editing features, which allow for creation of a master which is capable of being overwritten and used again. If your looking for something to copy camcorder tapes and send them to friends, this isnt what you need,go to ebay and buy a VCD burner,Video CD recorder:ie OX-DVA 2000, which copies media to a regular 74 minute CDR.If you like collecting and editing old out of print movies and tapes, and plan on buying two units, use this one for making a master and purchase a DMR-E20 or a Panasonic DMR-T2020D and make your final copy on a DVDR.note:DVD RAM discs are expensive and this unit uses specific types.DVDR discs are not cheap, but they are cheaper then dvd ram,but to my knowledge the cheap ones are write once only, and if you spoil the recording your out a disc.this unit also requires some getting used to,my only regret is that if i had waited a few days,I could have paid alot less.hope this helped you on making a purchase decision. best regards, ST NOTE:if you want a unit that records on both types of media the Panasonis DMR-E20,and the Panasonic DMR-T2020D(pro version)are compatable with both DVDRAM and DVDR.
Rating: Summary: I think this unit is terrific Review: I bought one of these machines in September and liked it so much I bought two more, for two other TVs in the house. I can't say enough good things about it. It works very simply, just like a VCR, only with DVD quality. (No more tracking problems on VHS or S-VHS tapes!) DVD-RAM is great for time-shifting and creating play lists, which basically let you easily re-arrange scenes of the original recording, so you can play back without commercials or play back scenes in any order, etc. You can then transfer that to DVD-R for permanent archiving (if you have 2 units, one to play DVD-RAM, the other to record DVD-R). There is, however, no digital-to-digital connection so to do this you have to use analog outputs/inputs but the quality is still superb. Despite your first impression when you look at the instruction book (it looks complicated) it's very, very simple to use the machine. I don't know what some of these other critics are talking about here, rating the machine so low. I just love it.

Rating: Summary: bad move, i'm sending it back. READ THIS BEFORE BUYING. Review: I didn't read the previous reviews carefully enough. DVD's recorded on this unit can only be played back on this unit. I bought it so I could record DVD's and watch them elsewhere. Since I can't do that, I am sending the unit back. It is too bad that this feature--or lack of feature--wasn't mentioned in the item's description. That would have saved me considerable time and trouble.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I have had this machine for about two months. I have only one word to describe it. "AWESOME". However, I recommend purchasing the later model that allows the user to record "CD-R".

Rating: Summary: It is just what I needed! Wonderful build quality!!! Review: I know,I know. This Beauty is DVD-RAM only. But for me this is just fine for now! I need to archive family videos and vintage movies/VHS etc...This Jewel has Wonderful build quality and is originally a $4,000.00 unit (a bit overpriced) It will replace my CD player, and my DVD player and it also has Progressive scan. This Panasonic has played everything I have thrown at it:DVD, VCD, DVD-RAM,CD. And the Video and Audio quality is Very High End all the way! To me this unit is a Steal! (At Amazons price) I will archive my treasures and wait for the DVD media wars to settle down, and then when the the prices of the recorders come way down, and they will,I will buy the appropriate unit to transfer my archived treasures to. BTW,This beauty records on the two sided 9.4 Ram discs as well as the 4.7 single sided, both type 1 and 2! Excellent quality recordings!!! This unit is the best and most exciting piece of electronics I have purchased in a long time!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Rating: Summary: Panasonic DMR-E10 DVD Ram Recorder Review: I would have given this recorder 5 stars if it would record DVD-R's also. I bought this unit as a second to my Panasonic DMR-E20. Its perfect for a second machine for doing Ram Discs back and forth, or play a Ram Disc to record on a DVD-R on the DMR-E20. What I really liked about this deck more was the 5.1 DD Built in Decoder, I ran the 5.1 DD decorder into my 6 channel non DD THX AMP and now running DVD movies as 5.1 THX Dolby Digital is fantastic. The quality in the XP is perfect, can not tell the difference from the Ram copy and the original Source. The 2 hour mode is very very close to the original, the 4 hr mode should strictly be used for time shifhting TV programs only. Comparing the DMR-E10 to the DMR-E20 the E20 wins every so slightly, picture quality is just a smidge better, but then again the E20 is [$$$] while the E10 is only [$$$]. One hidden fact, the HQ setting for audio is highly recomended over the normal setting for audio driven copies like high action movies or music videos. Interesting Fact, format Ram discs in the E10 you get 7 minutes extra per hour on the disc over the E20, example: a 4.7 Ram disc formated for 2 hrs is 2 hrs on the E20 while the E10 gives you 2hrs 14min. Using this unit is just like using a VCR with alot more flexability. One point should be taken editing on this deck gives you anywhere from 1/2 second to 1 second pause between edits and no time slip fuction either with Ram Discs. Recomend reading the owners manual all the way through, there are a large amount of Manual adjustments not known unless you read the owners manual 1st, you can really fine tune your video and audio with those adjustments.
Rating: Summary: BE CAREFUL Review: PANASONIC THEMSELVES HAS NO DISCS AVAILABLE FOR THIS MACHINE ON THEIR WEBSITE - THEY ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BUY. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS LAST YEARS MODEL A GENERATION BELOW THE PANASONIC "DMR E-20" . THE CURRENT "DMR E-20" CAN ALSO MAKE DVD-R's WHICH IS THE RECORD ONCE FOR PERMANENT RECORD OF YOUR FAVORITE STUFF. THIS MACHINE THE "DMR E-10" CAN ONLY MAKE DVD RAM DISCS WHICH ARE GREAT IN QUALITY AND RESOLUTION AND REPRESENT THE DVD MIRACLE QUITE WELL - BUT DVD RAM'S ARE HARD TO COME BY AND MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE - (...) AS COMPARED TO DVD R's WHICH ARE AROUND (...) IN STORES AND AS LITTLE AS (...) AT DIFFERENT WEBSITES. HOWEVER DVD RAM's CAN BE WRITTEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND DVD-R's CANNOT. HOPE THIS CLEARS UP ANY CONFUSION. HERE'S HOPING AMAZON WILL CARRY VERY CHEAP DVD-R's IN THE NEAR FUTURE - PREFERABLY "IMATION" AS I KNOW THEY WORK VERY WELL IN THE "DMR E-20" . I TRIED THE MEMOREX DVD-R's IN THE "DMR E-20" AND THEY DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT WORK - (I FOUND OUT THE EXPENSIVE WAY TRYING TO GET ABOUT A HALF DOZEN DISCS TO WORK, THAT I BOUGHT AT (...), AND THEY WOULD NOT - AT ABOUT (...)) - AND OF COURSE THE PROBLEM ONLY BECOMES EVIDENT NOT AT THE BEGINNING OF A PROJECT BUT ABOUT 3/4 THROUGH OR AT THE END OF A PROJECT THAT ALL YOUR EFFORTS AND NEVER TO BE REPEATED PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN RUINED AND ARE LOST FOREVER. MEMOREX PROBABLY KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE SINCE I BOUGHT ALL THOSE DISCS THEY HAVE SINCE LOWERED THEIR PRICES FROM (...) AT DIFFERENT PLACES - PROBABLY IN AN EFFORT TO GET RID OF THESE PROBLEM DISCS. "IMATION" DVD-R DISCS WORK GOOD IN THE "DMR E-20" IF YOU CAN FIND THEM. TO SUMMARIZE – I’M SURE THE "DMR E-10" WORKS GREAT BUT I THINK IT ONLY DOES DVD-RAM DISCS WHICH YOU CAN RECORD ON MORE THAN ONCE - WHICH WOULD BE FINE FOR SAVING STUFF IF THEY WERE THE CHEAPER DISCS - THEY ARE LIKE TWICE AS MUCH OR MORE THAN THE DVD-R DISCS. SO YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITH THE "DMR E-20" WHERE YOU CAN DO BOTH DVD-RAM AND DVD-R - THEN IF YOU WANT TO SAVE SOMETHING PERMANENT YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND THE DVD-R BLANK DISCS SOMEWHERE CHEAP ON THE WEB SINCE AMAZON DOES NOT CARRY THEM AS OF 12-4-01 . MAYBE IN THE COMING MONTHS THE DEMAND WILL SO GREATLY INCREASE (AS I PREDICT IT WILL) THAT THEY WILL BE EASIER TO FIND, EVEN AT AMAZON.
