Summary: Outlaw is awesome
Review: This is a really cool film. Josey Wales is an outlaw that the audience can root for. Eastwood once again establishes himself as one of the best actor/director in the Western genre. He has told a story about men trying to live together even though their ideas and values are completly different. Also the film is about what happens when these men come to blows over their respective differences. The film is about how one innocent person gets caught up in the fight and losses everything that is dear to him. Now he has to avenge the ones he lost. This is better that The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, but not as good as Unforgiven. I own it and still enjoy watching it from time to time.

Summary: Clint had every right to fire the original director.
Review: Clint took the direction reins away from Phil Kaufman (who also co-wrote the story) and did a much better story with this tale of a man named Josey Wales who must rebulid his life after his family is murdered during the Civil War, along the way he must take revenge on the man who killed his wife and son, but at the same time he finds new family and friends (including a new woman to love played by Sondra Locke). Good action scenes and great acting. Showcased that Clint was both talented as an actor and a director. Note; The Kaufman screenplay was hugely rewritten by Sonia Chernus. Produced by Robert Daley. Directed by Clint Eastwood. Music by Jerry Fielding.

Summary: Clint's directional debut
Review: Clint Eastwood directed this & it is pretty good, this is said to be his best western, In this he is Josey Whales, an ordinary guy who becomes an outlaw after his family is murdered, taking justice in his own hands, he sets out for revenge, almost like a western Dirty Harry, along the way he encounters many characters who join him on his quest, Sondra Locke(Eastwood's girlfriend at the time) makes her debut, this was Eastwood's last western until 1985's Pale Rider, & then 1992's Unforgiven, which in a way play out like sequels, Eastwood directed them too, & one has to wonder if he was playing the same character, if you watch all three back-to-back, there are parallels somewhat, of the three, this one is the best.

Summary: One of the best westerns ever
Review: This western has it all. After the first 10 minutes of the film, you too will want to mount up and avenge Wales against the heartless Redlegs. This movie is with suspense, action and nicely timed comedy not to mention too many one-liners to count ("dyin' ain't much of a livin' boy"). I love this movie. Even though I own a copy, it is still one of the few movies that if I'm channel surfing and happen across it... it stays on for the duration, any channel, any time.

Summary: You would enjoy it .
Review: I won't exaggerate like the others here. What should be said is, that's an entertaining movie, in which you'll find a lot of gunfights, gunshots, dead bodies, and again, gunfights - a real blood bath. Look, if you're a male all the violence would be acceptable, and believe me the film is full of that. As for girls, my sister liked it ,but then again ,we'd gotten her to love all the Rockies ,Rambos ,terminators etc. As a whole it's not a waste of time, though it's very long in comparison to other westerns. You would forget the world for a few hours, and simply drift into a fictional story ,that has a few funny ,enjoying moments in it (pay attention to the miserable dog!). Of course ,Clint is Clint ,with all of his gestures ,charisma and clichés,and , after all, you're on to see the man and the legend so why shouldn't you?

Summary: Gone to Texas.......
Review: Released in 1976, Eastwood would never top this outstanding film. There is a huge gap in quality between the endless amounts of Westerns - as such, I'm not a big fan of the genre. But The Outlaw Josey Wales is not only a great Western, it's a great film period. The cinematography is extremely mood setting, and the main characters have sincere believability -- very rare, indeed. The film comes from a novel called "Gone to Texas" by Cherokee storyteller Forrest Carter. Josey Wales (Eastwood) is a simple Missouri farmer. The end of civil war is nigh when Union soldiers raid his home, murdering his wife and child, and leaving him for dead. In one peaceful moment he's turning the earth for his fields, the next he's digging graves. Wales joins a group of Confederate guerrilla fighters who resist the inevitable surrender to the North. When the others give up so they can go home, Wales has no home to which to return, and his burning hatred remains. He cannot and will not submit. A rough foundation for the themes of absolution seen later in Eastwood's Unforgiven, The Outlaw Josey Wales establishes a personal struggle for our hero. He's uprooted not by choice but by circumstance. When Wales retrieves his pistol from his still-smouldering house, the farmer must learn marksmanship. He turns to violence for salvation. Only revenge will heal his wounds. Despite attempts to shrug off companionship he continually embraces community. Two Indians, Lone Watie (Chief Dan George) and Little Moonlight (Geraldine Keams), join his retreat from civilization. All in all, a great film.

Summary: Best of Clint Eastwood
Review: I have admired Clint Eastwoods works since he played Rowdy Yates on Rawhide. His spaghetti westerns changed the way westerns where made, and his one liners in his police movies where imitated by many but never surpassed. This to me is his best movie, not just because of his excellent acting, but the great supporting cast, sets, and music. It really gives you a feel for what it was like after the civil war for those struggling to survive the transition from a country torn apart to uniting and making a community in the old west. No matter if you enjoy westerns or not you will probably enjoy this film. It strikes me as being more like Jeremiah Johnson style than the other westerns he made. It paints a much broader picture of life and has good character development. Even though I had it on VHS I couldn't wait to get it on DVD.

Summary: Eastwood's best cowboy flick
Review: I've probably seen this film 50 times. It played on cable over and over and over when I was in college. After a while it became a comforting ritual. It got to the point where all of us could quote the dialogue before it was spoken. Yet, I never got tired of the movie. I think it resonates with all of us. Wales just wants to be left alone to live peacefully. But he can't. Government solders ruin his life, and when he strikes back a price is put on his head. This really is an anti-government film, as it does portrays those in government speaking with "forked tongues" (as they always have, and always will). Even today, 20 years later, I have very fond memories of this film. And I can still quote a lot of the dialogue.

Summary: My favorite Clint movie
Review: I could watch "The Outlaw Jose Wales" every day and not tire of it. It's got a no-nonsense well-written script and the execution of the script was done well. The DVD lacks any substantial "extras," which would have been nice and prevented this review from being five-stars. The production notes were fun to read and it was fun to see the trailer and how much it differs from trailers of today's movies. If you like westerns, buy this movie. It's a classic.

Summary: a southern women's pride and joy
Review: Southerns are sterotype in films as sickos. The movie made me proud of my southern roots. Eastwood, as the director, much like Josey Whales, took on the establishment and did what was right and true. The movie brings tears to this strong women eyes. My southern ancestors were human too. Please show this film to anyone wanting a fairer view of the South. I highly recommed it to all yankees, especially those from new england.
