Summary: A Treasured Classic: Wholesome, Romantic, & Humorous
Review: This old black & white movie was nominated for an academy award the year Oscar was given to "Around the World in 80 Days." The story is about a Quaker family (Quakers are also called "Friends," thus the name "Friendly Persuasion.") The family stuggles to remain neutral during the Civil War but the family, and their Quaker church become caught up in the controvery of choosing sides. Cooper and McGuire are marvelous as a couple deeply in love and entirely devoted. Cooper plays the part with humor as he warmly winks at the staunch and stuffy positions of his church. This movie ranks with "It's a Wonderful Life" and should be a classic rekindled!

Summary: PRE-Harrison Ford in WITNESS
Review: This was an early film that peeked into the cloistered life of the Quakers, ancestors to the Amish. Unlike Harrison Ford in WITNESS, this tale takes place during the Civil War. It was forbidden to fight with guns. However, every man has a limit.** Note, the Quakers started the Red Cross. Their dedication to the rights of the individual influenced many policies and politians (Bill of Rights!). This 1956 film includes excellent performances by Gary Cooper, Anthony Perkins, Dorothy McGuire.

Summary: Excellent Family Movie
Review: Wonderfully depicts the faith and trust of the Quaker beliefs against all odds.
