Review: I SAW THIS MOVIE AND I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD. IT FIRST STARTS OUT IN BOOTCAMP THEN IN VIETNAM. THIS MOVIE HAS A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING LIKE M-16'S,M-60'S,AK-47,SNIPER RIFLES AND TANKS AND BLOOD AND GUTS. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THAT YOU BUY THIS MOVIE FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN IN VIETNAM. Review: This great movie STILL sets the standard for war films. A stunning achievement, Full Metal Jacket is the best of the Vietnam movies and in the top five war movies ever filmed. Right up there on my own list of favorites right beside the novel THE TRIUMPH AND THE GLORY and THE BRIDGES OF TOKO-RI.

Summary: Artsy-fartsy War Movie!
Review: Having seen a hell of alot of war movies in my time, "Full Metal Jacket" is by far my favourite. It is the most engaging look at the Vietnam war, in a simplistic Kubrick kind of way. Who else could make an "artsy-fartsy" war movie. Don't get me wrong, i'm not really a Kubrick fanatic (the only other movie I like by him is The Shining). What i enjoyed about Full Metal Jacket was the sheer minimalistic way it was filmed. The scenes were not clutered about, and there were no long drawn out mega-shoot outs where you don't know what the heck is going on. Instead, Kubrick took his time with each scene, which in essence totally envelops you and makes the last war sequence a total gut wretching experience. A total enthralling movie, and absolutely great cinematography.

Review: Well, what can you say. If you want to see movies about the Vietnam war is this the better one of them. It's heartwrecking to see how they drilled at Parris Island. "We want to get in to the sh**" Joker says to another soldier when they arrives to the front. It is a good movie but it misses something. I don't really had this WOW feeling when i saw it...

Summary: Too cool for school.
Review: Wow, this movie kicks! Vincent D'Onofrio is the man in this movie and I felt so bad for him, and my mouth literally dropped when he did what he did in the bathroom! The drill sergeant was funny as heck and make me crack up, especially during the opening sequence. The Academy must have been a little delirious or something when they nominated actors, cause R. Lee Ermey should have definetely gotten best actor. Awesome action and the best Kubrick movie ever made, the second being A Clockwork Orange. The only reason why I give it 4 stars is cause the second half isn't quite as riveting as the first half (basic training). Overall, a great movie and well worth the price.

Summary: KUBIRCK APPROVED IT FOR A REASON!
Review: Kubrick was against Stereo because he didn't trust it. He approved this disk because he wanted it mono. He also determined if a movie should be shown wide screen or full screen. This wasn't shot at 2.35:1. It was only 1.66. YOu aren't missing much by having it adjusted for your set. And if it is a great film (which it is) then you arent missing anything.

Review: "Full Metal Jacket" starts out so magnificently, with scenes set on Parris Island, that when first watching it I thought that there really was a possibility that it was "the greatest war film of all time", as a few critics so grandiosely proclaimed. The first hour is harrowing and powerful, with volcanic performances from the actors playing Pvt. Gomer Pyle and the Drill Sergeant, and a quiet but nuanced one from Matthew Modine. After one of the great death scenes in any movie, the action shifts to Viet Nam--where the film begins its slow slide into cliche and irrelevance. The action scenes give little impression of the exhileration and terror of war, and the scenes of GI's out and about in Saigon and thereabouts have been done--and done better--in a dozen other movies ranging from "Apocalypse Now" to "Good Morning, Vietnam." Kubrick has little new to say about the war in Viet Nam. What makes this film worth watching is its first half. Its sudden collapse in the last hour is startling and unfortunate, and as a result, in the great pantheon of Viet Nam films, it is a much lesser film than "Apocalypse Now", "The Deer Hunter", "Platoon" or even "Good Morning, Vietnam."
