Rating: Summary: Best War Film Ever Made Review: This is without a doubt the most realistic war movie ever made. It doesn't have some far fetched "HOLLOWwood" plot like Sgt. Ryan. This is the real thing! If you don't think this is the most realistic movie of its genre, you don't know what reality is. The horror of war in its true colors. One can't help from feeling sad for the poor soldiers forced to fight in the hell of winter against overwelming odds, knowing that they will never see their homeland again. German and Russian alike show that there are no supermen in war, but everyday men who are scared to kill another and be killed. This was the eastern front of WWII - The Main Event!
Rating: Summary: The best depiction I've seen of the utter despair of war. Review: I won't expand upon what others have said. It's a phenomenal film. I have never been more drained after a film. One point: many say it's un-Hollywood. However, it was (and may still be) the most expensive German film ever made. So, while it may not be Private Ryan, it's not cheap and it may seem fresh because we don't know most of the actors. Again, great movie!
Rating: Summary: A very important film Review: This film gives Western viewers a rare glimpse at the Eastern Front by putting them alongside the German Soldiers at the pivotal battle where the outcome of the Second World War was decided. I think it ranks as one of if not the best war film ever made.
Rating: Summary: A powerful and compelling film destined to be a classic! Review: Vilsmaier does an excellent job of portraying the despair, suffering and hardships of the German soldier on the eastern front. "Stalingrad" is well acted, produced and directed; it does a good job of commanding the viewers attention from start to finish. This is the kind of movie that never loses its edge no matter how many times you watch it. This video is a MUST for all collectors of fine films.
Rating: Summary: Powerful! Intense! Two Thumbs WAY UP!!!! Review: Stalingrad was said to be the battle that costed the German Army the Eastern Front. I've done a lot of research on the Battle of Stalingrad, and this movie is extremely close to being accurate. What I liked about this movie was how it showed the battle through the eyes of ordinary soliders. It made us feel the heat of battle with them, it made us suffer with them, and when they reppelled th tank attack,we felt their victory. It was like watching a German "Saving Private Ryan". Stalingrad should be placed in the category of "one of the greatest war films of all time."
Rating: Summary: Worth the Time Review: In my opinion this movie is well worth your time...and possibly buying. There aren't many movies about the Russian Front (that I've seen) and it gives you somewhat of an inside look into the German army. No movie is perfect, and there are some parts that could use some work...but then again, I don't direct movies, nor do the majority of the people who are writing bad reviews. So, as it is, this movie is worth your time and is very interesting.I'm not sure why the DVD versions apparently don't come with subtitles, so VHS will sadly have to do.
Rating: Summary: THE GERMAN PRIVATE RYAN Review: Both this and "Saving Private Ryan" are excellent depictions of battle. It's interesting to compare what went on in the two fronts (Russia and France). Were the German officers really so stiff, proper, and unsympathetic towards their men? Perhaps so. If so, I'd rather be led by Captain Miller than the German captain here.
Rating: Summary: This is a powerful and compelling movie! Review: This movie shows the reality of war. The author does a good job in showing the feelings and the intense drama that takes place in the battlefield. I think that the author forgot to address the fact that even though the German generals were following Hitler's orders, some of them were figthing with a lot of courage to prevent their nation from falling to comunism.
Rating: Summary: The best movie of the century Review: The best movie i have ever see
Rating: Summary: a very graphic movie and holds you attention Review: A good movie very explicit maybe a bit overdone showing the German soldier in a poor light a little undisciplined always sterotyping.
