Summary: Five stars for Kelly's Heroes
Review: Kelly's Heroes is probably the funniest World War Two movie ever. With a great cast including Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Carroll O'Connor, and Donald Sutherland. I've seen a lot of World War Two movies, and this is one of the best. Sutherland is hilarious in one of his funniest and best performances ever.

Summary: Enjoyable WWII Film Comedy
Review: A dark comedy about an infantry platoon that goes behind enemy lines to steal gold bars. Their leader is Kelly (a young Clint Eastwood), an ex-officer who lost his commission after a fratricide incident. With Kelly is the reluctant Sergeant (Telly Savalas), a tank commander (Donald Sutherland), and a scheming supply sergeant (played well by Don Rickles). The humor is good, though dated with Sutherland acting like a "Hippie" throughout the picture - you have to see it to believe it. Surprisingly for a film of this theme, the film production did an incredible job of recreating WWII scenery with numerous authentic vehicles and weapons; jeeps, Sherman tanks, even T-34 tanks modified to look like German Tiger tanks (these were acquired from a Russian source that used them for one of their films, and are very likely the same ones used in "Saving Private Ryan"). Humor is mixed with action and some dramatic moments. Probably one of the most unusual scenes is midway through the movie when the tank platoon, under command of "Oddball" (Sutherland) attacks a railroad installation occupied by German units. Bullets and cannon shells erupt in all directions with the tanks oblitering the place, all while Oddball's crews play country-western music through loudspeakers mounted on their tanks. The film keeps your interest. It's interesting to note that it was filmed in the ex-Yugoslavia region.

Summary: "Behind enemy lines? Yeah. That could be the perfect crime."ΓΏ
Review: This was the first Clint Eastwood movie I ever saw and I've yet to forget it. Picture this: You are an American soldier in WWII Europe. You have just found out about a bank in a town 30 miles away which happens to contain $16,000,000.00 worth of gold bars. You think, "I could become a bank robber for about 3 days." What's that you say? It's crazy? To think I could blow a bank and get away with it? What if that bank is in German territory? Well, I think you get the picture now.

Summary: Don't hit me with no negative vibes, baby!
Review: If you don't know the lines "Don't hit me with no negative vibes, baby", or "I'm just having a little wine and cheese", you are really missing an incredible movie. I have seen this movie 10 times. The only thing that would make it better is DVD.

Summary: Surprisingly close to how the Army works sometimes
Review: In the absence of strong leadership other influences and initiatives come to the fore. In this tale, a web of acqaintences gets an army moving because of the decision of (ta da!) Clint Eastwood's character to go rip off a bank guarded by a Tiger tank.

A great scene is toward the end, when Eastwood, Savalas and Sutherland face down the tank by standing in front of it as tall, laconic hero types. Real put-on. Sutherland checks his holster to be sure his pistol is ready to whip out when the trouble starts.

Rickles takes a good part as a supply sergeant "operator".

Summary: On Of Eastwoods Best
Review: I have seen this movie several times and it still makes me feel good.Clint Eastwood leads a group of World War II soliders in search of 16 million in gold. Also staring Telle Salvas and Donald Sutherland as Oldball. It has so many good actors that I can't name them all. The showdown at the end with the Tiger Tanks is great.

Summary: one of those "I could watch this over and over" flicks
Review: Let's face it, war movies are depressing.... Bolstered by an all-star cast, this movie has it all, the central character(Kelly) and a bunch of supporting folks who are all played by film legends. Funny, intense, and all around good filmmaking. This is a great flick that you won't get tired of watching.

Summary: Gets better every time you watch it.
Review: I can watch this movie over and over and never tire of it. The actors make me wish I had been with them (the war aside). I am a Telly Savalas fan and think everyone should have this movie in their library. It is not just a man's movie. It has universal appeal. The lines are superb, the story line is not truly credible (but who cares) and the characters, are just that..characters. Two thumbs up.

Summary: "They set out to rob a bank- and damn near won the war!"
Review: Boy, do I ever like this movie. I've watched it a million times and I never get sick of it. It's funny, well acted, and enjoyable. The story is simple: a platoon of GIs led by Kelly (Eastwood) set out to steal gold from the Germans, located in a bank behind enemy lines, with support from 3 Shermans commanded by Oddball (Sutherland). Others include Telly Savalas, Don Rickles. Carrol O'Conner plays a General who is rooting for the Platoon back at headquarters, not knowing the purpose of the operation. I wasn't disappointed once with this film. The characters are likable (however Oddball's "negative waves" gag grows stale). After several "battles", they arrive at the town, dominated by 3 Tigers (the Tigers were mocked-up using T-34s, the same ones used in Saving Private Ryan years later). You'll have to get the movie to find out what happens. You won't be disappointed!
