Summary: Superb Fresh Imagination
Review: This movie is a delightful, on the edge of your seat thriller! Great Dream Works animation is mixed with extremely original imagination and a moral plot of heroism in good versus evil. This movie is wonderfully refreshing for the age group of 7-13 year olds that are too young for baby movies and not old enough for serious violence. It is a definate must see for the big screen and as soon as the DVD is released it will have a home amoung my collection of outstanding movies!

Summary: Some important things left out
Review: What I really like about this movie is that it does not star any big name actor everyone knows.
Some very important elements are left out though. Even though he is a minor character in the book, Neville Longbottom plays a big part in each of his scenes. He is grossly underdeveloped for the movie--whether this was how the script was written, or just some bad editing can be determined by viewers.
The movie also seemed a little jumpy--developing the basics then going on before any true development can be made. There are many movies out there that we wish were shorter; I actually want this one to be longer. I think it would have been more fitting to put this on the small screen as an eight to ten-hour mini-series--on cable of course so we do not have to deal with commercials. I do not know how they will do Book 4 (which is twice as long).
All of this aside, the movie is actually good and fun. Everybody knows that there is no way to be totally faithful to the novel!! So just sit back and enjoy. (Some scenes might scare the younger audience members. Rated PG, but very close to PG-13.)

Summary: Harry Potter
Review: After several months of waiting, I was finally able to see the movie. I enjoyed it, but was disappointed that some characters such as the Weasley twins had such smaller parts than the book or weren't in the movie at all. Although parts were missing, changed, and out of order, I am hoping to see the movie again. Many viewers will also enjoy the extra scene that was added. I recommend that kids under 6 should not see the movie. There are violent parts which they might not be able to handle.(I also recommend not to eat during the troll scene!)That's all I have to say for now!

Summary: Wonderful Eye Candy, And A Decent Movie Besides
Review: As most of the people have who have gone to the movie, I've read all four books and am eagerly awaiting the fifth. I feel rather like a Frosted Flakes lover with darkened face, as I'm 23 and still a big fan.

That said, I was a little (not a lot) disappointed in the movie. The first hour, and particularly the first views of Hogwarts were nothing short of astonishing. I love visually attractive films, and this is one of the most appealing films since What Dreams May Come as far as that goes. It was also very VERY faithful to the book. This is where the trouble came. While some parts were left out, and I hate saying this, maybe a few more should have. The movie is 2 and a half hours long and it drags in the middle.

I think this stems from the fact that a movie is pushing images at you while you pull images from a book and visualize it in your mind's eye. The movie doesn't have a good chance to describe the textures, emotions, smells, etc. like the book can, and without the extra descriptions to suck you into the movie, it is a bit slow. Jurassic Park had the same problem, the movie just couldn't do all of what the book did. That means that the middle of the book that we found interesting because it described Harry's classes and gave us more complete ideas of the many characters and their personalities just didn't play as well on the screen.

Still, I enjoyed the movie a lot, and I was astounded by how quiet the theatre was through the whole movie despite the fact that at least half the people there were under 10. Obviously the kids didn't notice the slowdown. What they probably did notice was that the movie was more than a bit frightening at times. The final confrontation made me jump a bit and was visually detailed and memorable enough to cause nightmares for munchkins around the world. I think it was rated PG by a very bare margin. Just a warning to those with small children. If nothing else, consider waiting until it is out on video and significantly smaller in size before letting them see it.

Overall, everything was almost exactly as I pictured it, the casting was phenomenal, the sets and costumes were unbelievable, and except for the middle hour it was quite entertaining. My question is how are they going to fit the next couple of books into one movie if the first was 2.5 hours? I wish them luck, and I'll be there again to see it in the first weekend. If you're a fan, go see it and make your own judgement!

Summary: Great movie
Review: I saw the movie the day after it came out. I bought tickts that included a Harry Potter costume party. I dressed as Hermione, and three-forths of the people had dressed up. Then we got posters, and then the movie started. I thought it was short because so many things had been cut out, and I've read the book so many times, I waited for certain parts to happen and they didn't. I loved the music and I thought there were good actors. I especily loved the parts for Dudley. I realy liked Quiddich. I would DEFENITLY recemend reading the book before waching the movie.

Summary: The Harry Potter Movie
Review: Wow. There is no other way to describe it. Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is stuck in a world that he doesn't belong. With a mysterious scar on his forehead, Harry has no idea who is parents were, why he lives with his aunt and uncle and most importantly why he has made strange things happen that he can't explain. This movie stayed so close to the book, of which I was worried about, that it amazed me.The actors were just plain awesome, the graphics were unbelievable and the scores Were just great!!! Even if you aren't a Harry Potter fan, this movie is perfect for all ages. This is an awesome movie and I give it a great review! GO SEE IT! IT'S WICKED!

Summary: Fans of the book will find much to love.
Review: I really wish I could give this four and a half, because the movie is of course not totally perfect. Some things are glossed over a bit (the Weasley twins don't get up to any mischief, Peeves is absent, Hedwig and Mrs. Norris are never named), but in general the film does an amazing job condensing and adapting the book into movie format. The casting is excellent also, especially Alan Rickman, who seems to have been put on this earth to play Professor Snape. I remember seeing him in the trailer for three seconds and gaping because he just oozed Snape-ness. Visually, it's also great - the confrontation with the troll and the Quidditch match being two fine examples. I love seeing movies with great special effects that aren't using them as a crutch! John Williams' score is amazing as always, giving a very magical/haunting feel to every scene, and I especially loved the movie's portrayal of Harry as a lonely orphan longing for the parents he's never met. It was touching without shoving it down our throats. Can't wait for Chamber of Secrets!

Summary: i want to be parvatie patil
Review: I have been anticcipating the movies arrival in theaters for two years now. I waited in line for two hours to see the movie and I was impressed by the special effects and the acting. However, I definetly feel that the director cut out way to many parts. For example, The sorting hat didn't even sing the song! and in the book it was supposed to be Harry,Hermione, neveile, and Malfoy who recieved the detention. Ron was supposed to be up in the hospital wing because he had recived a bite from norbert and it had turned a nasty shade of green.PLus, no one knew about the dragon in the book besides Harry, Hagrid, ron, hermione, and Malfoy. It was Harry and Hermione who were sending Norbert up to the tallest astronomy tower to give norbert to charlie's friends. (...)

Summary: movies are never better than the book....
Review: I actually did not have high expectations for the movie, because I knew it can never be better than the book. Nevertheless, I was right. First, Daniel Radcliffe CANNOT act at all. His acting was far too low-standard to play Harry Potter. I thought Hermione was played the best among the three. Second, all the characters were very weakly portrayed in the movie. Although it's understandable that a movie cannot describe all the details as in the book, people who have never read the book will think the characters are very simple. I wished it had focused more on the characters rather than the "magical" parts. Third, for those who haven't read the book, it was hard to follow the story. Scenes did not have a sense of connection with each other and it felt like chunks of bits and pieces. Fourth, although Columbus stressed that he was "being faithful to the book", there were quite a few changes in the story which I suppose is understandable.
Overall, I enjoyed the special effects, especially the quidditch scene, but the movie did a poor job in reflecting the depth of the characters which plays a significant role in the book. The movie focuses too much on getting people's attention with their Hollywood special effects rather than the story itself. Also, they could have done a much better job in the whole structure of the movie. And lastly, we won't be able to see the real Harry Potter until they get a new actor to play that role.
